Trouble from day 1

First, before my 95 year old father entered the facility, the management lost his 35 page application and his $[removed] check. [name removed], the administrator took my calls and apologized however once my dad entered the facility, she never responded to my emails. Second, they told us and it was written in the contract that my dad would get 3 showers a week. All of a sudden, they tell me they had a policy change and he only gets 2 showers. Disgusting. We had to fight to get back to the 3 shower regimen. Third, my dad soiled his adult diapers one night and the aid berated my dad! She then cut some other unused diapers and shoved them in the front of his dirty diaper instead of just changing him. I wanted to take my dad out Of there at that point. Keep in mind, these incidents occurred within 2 weeks after he entered The Court at PalmAir. We had to go to the director of nursing and report this incident. The food tasted like defrosted TV dinners. I regret bringing my dad here.

Bad Move

Let me begin by saying they raised rents across the board by [removed]% for Independent Living. It has also increased every year since he moved in but this was the worst. I think they know many people can't move at this stage of their lives. My family member has been there for 5 years and the services continue to decrease. The food continues to get worst. They have no chef and the server admitted all the food is frozen and just heated up. People routinely send their meal back. The residents are routinely talked down to. Transportation is minimal. There used to have two drivers, now one. It is sad to not be able to help and have to listen to how unhappy most people are there. Please think twice before taking your loved on to the Court of Palm Aire.

Tour Experience

We toured The Court at Palm Aire during our search for an Assisted Living facility for our loved one. This facility seemed a little sad, but the staff there are so nice. I have a friend that has a loved one who lives here and I have heard that the food is not so good.

Room for improvement: Have someone helping the overnight secretary. Have a on site nurse overnight. I had an emergency and came downstairs for help and she said she couldn't leave the desk and there was no one here. She tried to call a security guard but she had NOONE helping her. The apartment sizes and amenities offered for the residents are great!

Not a Place for Mom

Mom and dad lived there for over 7 years. At first in IL then in AL. Their service and food were good at first, but everything is going downhill fast. Aides in AL maybe friendly but very slow to respond. Food is not good at all. Biggest complaint in a recent survey by 5 Star supports that claim. Finally had enough and after dad passed, moved mom out. She was not getting any help when she called. Finally, I'm sorry but when Covid hit, the service went down, activities stopped yet did they offer a refund for the loss of these services and for the bagged lunches and dinners?

A Good Place

Be very careful with what the person who is going to live there really likes. My loved one is not into activities or anything like that. I think she would have a better time if she would try to participate. Some of the staff are extremely nice, and some not very nice. But they do respond well to any questions or concerns that I've had. We have 24-hour care supplementing theirs, which is not any fault of theirs. My loved one just has a lot of needs. I think they keep the facility very clean, and it's a good place overall.

My review of The Court at Palm Aire

We chose The Court at Palm Aire because the studio apartment was bigger than the others that we saw and it was also cheaper. They provide 3 meals a day rather than 2 which is what we were looking for. I do think they could have more activities, sometimes my mom gets bored. Overall I would recommend them to others who are looking.

Horrible place

Don’t leave your love one there. Would give this place 0 stars. My Dad spent only one night for rehab after hospital stay. They overdosed him and then lied to us and said he had not been given any meds. Dad was unconscious but staff refused to call 911. Said they had to do paperwork first to transfer him to hospital and were too busy to call. Said to call 911 myself if that’s what I wanted. I did and paramedics said Dad had been drugged. He was there for rehab but had him so drugged he never was able to receive physical therapy. The room he stayed in was cramped and dirty. Wall air conditioner was all moldy. Staff did not seem happy to work there. Drugged Dad because he woke up in the morning and wandered outside his room looking for his wife. Worst place ever. Dad would have died if we hadn’t found him unconscious and got him to the hospital. I wanted to share so no one would leave a family member there ever!

Choose wisely & try to keep tabs

I had a family member staying at a ‘5-star’ skilled nursing facility in S. Florida for over 2 wks. We were there to visit nearly every day, for at least 3-4hrs per day, sometimes more. Therapists were very good. Nurses, generally, did there job. The rooms were kept relatively clean. There was a handful of staff that would give a little extra from time to time. When it came down to my family member complaining of pain and visiting family speaking to nursing staff & supervisors about worsening issues, little was done. Within a few days this family member was rushed to the ER in critical condition. Had the doctor and nurses acted responsibly & ethically it wouldn’t have come to this!

Terrible

The worst... my mom was only sent here for rehab and she never got a chance to come back home. They hardly ever answer to the call light. The charge nurse at the front desk is extremely rude. The staff is negligent, They lie to cover each other’s backs and now that my mom is gone all I can get is a “I’m sorry for your loss!”

Keep looking if assistance needed

Don't put your parent or lived one there if they need any kind of help. They are bare boned staff. Nursing supervisor is not nice. They show you the whole facility at the sales pitch, but neglect to tell you the assisted living residents don't really have access to the downstairs unless they can go on their own ( but they need assistance because they are in assisted living?) or guess what, you can hire an aide to take them down to listen to music for a half hour, but guess what again, the agencies all have a minimum of 3 to 4 hours at a time. An expensive trip to the show. Try Willowwood or The Bridges.

I am the Executive Director and would like to have a conversation with you regarding your comments. To live in our, or any assisted living community, a resident needs to have the mobility to move throughout the building. We certainly will help to guide and direct residents (especially new residents) to where an activity may be -- and when possible try to vary where these are held. Based on your comments we'll see what we can do to hold a few more activities in our upstairs areas. Please contact me at the community if you would like to discuss this in more detail.

Great community for independent living

This place is great for those on the lower end of the care spectrum. I had a loved one who was here for quite a while as independent living, and they did a great job. However, when she started needing help and had to move to the assisted living things went downhill. You really had to stay on top of them to make sure they weren't just doing the bare minimum when it came to the care and services provided.
