When I had to move my parents from Philadelphia 5 years ago to the Hillsborough area, my wife and I spoke with friends and toured several of the assisted living facilities in the area. They ended up at the Avalon and it was the best decision we could have made. A couple of years ago my Dad had severe health challenges and had to move next door to the Bridgeway. My Mom was able to visit him daily before he passed. Recently my Mom had a sudden illness and also passed away. The sincere reaction by the staff showed how close the residents and staff become. My dad really liked The Avalon when he toured it. If he were to move to this area, this would have been his first choice. He wanted to stay in another area that was between his friends and his family, so it really just came down to the location.
Please look elsewhere. Avalon will lure you in with its bells and whistles and fancy facility but it is a thin veneer. They lack appropriate staffing of aides and were negligent in my father's medical care. The nursing staff was negligent in my father's care missing critical signs that he was in a serious crisis. This landed him in the hospital where he had to had life saving surgery. They do not follow the patient's bill of rights and churn you out without following the law which demands advance and written notice. The admin is rude and condescending and they are all about their bottom dollar. Aside from the lovely woman that runs the activities this place is a sham. Run!
