Brookdale Hillsborough offers residents a personalized way of life, filled with tailored one-on-one care, regular meals, and exciting programming. Whether you are in need of assisted living services or memory care, you can find trained team members to assist with your specific needs. Brookdale offers two memory programs — the Clare Bridge and Solace programs. The Clare Bridge program was created more than 30 years ago and continually evolves as new research comes to light. The goal is to provide residents with six structured activities each day. These activities help residents use their current skills, while preserving their abilities and senses of self. The Solace program does not replace any key elements of the Clare Bridge, it simply adds to it. A few of its highlights include incorporating music and aromatherapy into residents' routines, as well as assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming, and other activities of daily living, as needed.
Here, residents’ wellness is supported by collaborative care partnerships between family members, Brookdale’s care associates, and additional health care providers. Through the use of a Personalized Service System, each resident is given a customized care plan. These unique care plans are flexible, which means they can be adjusted as needed. Many...

The cost for my mother went up over $[removed] a month in two and a half years. She still gets around by herself with the use of her walker and takes care of herself. They make up things that your loved one needs. They don’t care about the residents, it’s all about how much money they can make from you before your loved one passes. It is a business first, care facility second. It is clean and some of the staff are nice but they will bleed you dry. It’s just awful

Response from Brookdale Hillsborough
October 29, 2024We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality care and services to our residents. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have and hope you will contact our management team to discuss further.
We had a mix of positive and negative experiences at Brookdale. On the positive side, they accepted my mother even though it became clear they weren’t fully equipped to handle her situation. Most of the staff made an effort to care for her, with a few exceptions. The main issue was the direction of her care. Hospice recommended more pain management, but [name removed] was strongly opposed. My mother would moan, scream, and become uncontrollable when touched. The staff attributed this to psychological issues, but we ultimately had to intervene to manage her pain. Although they never cleaned the room, they did provide a certain level of care, which was challenging for them even with the extra care package we paid for. We’re grateful they didn’t ask us to remove my mother from the facility, but we feel the care prolonged her suffering rather than providing maximum comfort in her final days

I think it might not have been the right type of place for my mom. She probably needed a skilled nursing facility. She went downhill pretty quickly. I don't think the staff knew how to handle that 24/7 care. But did the best they could being understaffed.

I think the nursing staff are very experienced and have longevity...very important. Food has really gone downhill and they don't push individuals to participate and engage. They could work a little harder at finding a way to get each person involved. Finally, they assign table partners and this never changes. Why not try to vary this occasionally.

My experience at Brookdale Hillsborough has been positive since my first visit to the site. The facility is clean and well-maintained, and the grounds are lovely and well-manicured. There are many and varied daily activities to keep the residents entertained and engaged, and the meals are nutritious and offer a variety of choices. Most importantly, the entire staff (management, nurses and medical staff, aides, facility coordinators, etc.) are very pleasant, and attentive to the needs of each resident. I can approach anyone with questions or concerns about my mother's status and expect the issue to be addressed quickly and professionally. I would highly recommend Brookdale Hillsborough for anyone considering a caregiving facility for their loved one.

Mom is a very social person, and was pretty isolated at her rural home with a single caregiver. I've noticed that her mood is better and while she has yet to participate in any scheduled activities she is interacting with her new friends at mealtimes, as well as the nursing and aid staff, who in general are very friendly and responsive. Very happy that we chose Brookdale Hillsborough as a residence for her next phase of life.

My mom has been incredibly well cared for by the staff— she is happy and feels safe. As a resident with dementia, she thrives on the socialization, kindness, and comforting routine provided. It is also my home away from home. I look forward to my visits at Brookdale. The atmosphere there is positive and the staff are attentive and interactive. In other words, they care.

When searching for Assisted Living for my mom, we toured Brookdale Hillsborough. The facility itself was very nice! However, it was more expensive than some of the other places that we toured. Also, the residents didn't seem as happy.
Our tour with Brookdale Hillsborough was very positive. The staff were all very friendly and accomdaioting. They were thorough and answered all of our questions that we had.
This is a good community, and I would recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The billing stinks and you can't get an answer to your questions or concerns. The dinning and nursing staff communication with the family is awesome! The woman that cleans my loved one's room is fantastic, and I believe her name is [name removed]. The nurses and aides have wonderful patience with the residents.

My dad did not care for Brookdale Hillsborough. The reason being was that he was coming from a 2 bedroom house and wanted at least a 1 bedroom apartment, here they only had very small studios available so he was not interested in that.
The staff members are very friendly and have been very kind to our loved one. They are very accommodating to request and if there are any issues or concerns they look into resolving the problem. Our loved one seems to enjoy the meals and dining. They do have quite a few activities going on throughout the days like bingo, arts and crafts, church services where you can receive communion and they even bring in outside entertainments and guests. They also have a beauty shop which our loved one enjoys. Overall we are satisfied with Brookdale.

They are very friendly and I have had a very great experience. It is not the most fancy but the service and the staff are great. My loved one is not really interested in the activities and that they are not very targeted towards him. Have a lot of veterans and a men's club that they try to keep the members active with.

We toured Brookdale and it was a very lovely place. The staff members were all nice and the facility itself was beautiful. We looked at the rooms on the assisted living side and they were nice and roomy, they even had a space for a little 2 seated kitchen table. The location was the issue for us.
Even with COVID they are doing a terrific job. The staff has been excellent, they are very sweet and understanding. They keep us informed on what is going on. They have great activities, our loved one is very involved in a lot of them. She sings in the choir and has made a lot of friends. They have a lot of arts and crafts, they try and do some kind of a social hour on Fridays, like an ice cream social. Recently they had an ugly Christmas sweater party. They have a big Christmas tree in the lobby and another one in the memory care unit, the place is really well decorated. The community has a nice big wrap around porch out front that our loved one enjoys walking around. The staff and residents get tested every single week, and from our understanding they have not had a positive case since April, we think they are doing a terrific job.

Brookdale looks more like a nursing home than assisted living. Upon entering, one is greeted by semi comitose clients sitting around in wheelchairs not interacting with anyone. It is a startling way to enter the facility. I think that is a big turnoff to family and friends of clients and especially to clients themselves who are not particularly sick and can carry on normal conversations with the staff. This is also why those clients do not opt to participate in the activities that are offered. Food is very bland and not every client has digestive issues and can eat a bit of spice and garlic. As people age they loose their sense of taste and smell and need a bit more stimulation. You might hear fewer complaints from them about the food if you could do that. Of course, if a doctor orders a special diet free from those things, that is a different story. Brookdale does a good job in arranging entertainment for the seniors. As for rising costs, I do wonder why it is so expensive especially for clients that do not need any special services. Those PT services are paid for by insurance anyway. I realize fire insurance for the facility is expensive, but no one gets rich working there including the administration, so where does the money go? I would like to see a breakdown of costs sometime. Was it really necessary to replace all the lobby furniture this year? The original chairs were just fine and really don't look that much different than the new ones. Those are just a few of my thoughts.

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale Hillsborough 8.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
