We are happy with the care offered and would recommend. Sunrise is wonderful. The help is excellent. Sunrise works well with the family. There are plenty of activities available. We are very pleased with the care for my 98 year old mother.

Response from Sunrise of Bloomfield Hills
February 28, 2024Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Bloomfield Hills and the dedicated care givers and team members. Our residents are part of the Sunrise family and we take enormous pride in having the privilege to take care of them.
View several places and try to have an idea if pt is memory care or not, view both and ask a lot of questions. They need to improve on Dr/nursing communication. It is better now but I had to go to admin more than once to get help.

My loved one was a resident at Sunrise of Bloomfield Hills and her experience at this facility was okay. The cleaning/housekeeping of her apartment wasn't great. The turnover was hard to manage, but the staff was normally nice. My loved one did complain a lot about the lack of activities. Lots of turnover here also. Bingo isn't very exciting!

June 30, 2023We are sorry, Stacy, to hear about the negative experience you had at Sunrise of Bloomfield Hills. The friendliness of the staff does vary. Some are friendly; some can't manage a smile. Many (not all) have an attitude like they are doing you a favor to do the job that is expected of them. Very disappointing. Not responsive on a timely basis. This is probably due, at least in part, to being understaffed. Seemingly untrained staff providing services. (Ie, Medication distribution). Some days are better than other days. Food preparation is poor. Quantity is good. Cannot attend the activities, so therefore I will not rate. I expect a better response for the amount I pay for extra services (eg, assisted living, distribution of medications). Must be your own advocate.

We toured with Sunrise of Bloomfield Hills and it was a great experience for us. The reason we did not choose this facility was just due to the further location.

I toured this facility and it seemed great! The staff was very friendly. Two things that made me decide against it are the busy location and that it is a larger facility. We were looking for something a little more quiet for mom. If those things don't factor into your decision, I would say definitely consider this facility.

I feel like one of the issues is we dropped off my loved one, and that was it from Sunrise. There was no introduction to the services, no meeting with her, no introduction to the residents. It was just - here you are. So after being there for a while, she still isn't sure of the laundry policy and when they should be cleaning her apartment. She didn't know she could get food in between meals until recently. Besides bingo and a couple of very low cost things, there have been very few activities. She really wanted this apartment because there's an exterior door on it that leads to a patio, but it turns out they don't want her to use that door, which was never communicated to her initially so she's pretty upset about it. I feel like they made it sound a lot better than what we're actually experiencing.

This is very difficult to evaluate, I know that there is a shortage of staffing everywhere which is impacting the care. I would like to see more proactive attention to the individual needs of the residents in memory care, things have been known to slip through the cracks but I know they are working on it. They do have a great team and some of their caretakers are absolutely outstanding and go above and beyond. They have been receptive to my communication as well and I appreciate that.

When touring this facility we felt that this was very overpriced for what we expected. The memory care unit was not what we expected and the residents were roaming around on their own. I did not see the one on one care that I needed for my loved one.

Our loved one had dementia but Sunrise was willing to care for our loved one on the assisted living side and not the memory care. We thought this would be a much more pleasant stay for our loved one being able to stay on the assisted living side. During our loved one stay they did have trouble with staffing, and due to our loved ones care they he needed at least two assistance to help get him out of bed, and usually there was only one person available so he would stay in bed more than what we wanted.

This experience is en light of covid. The lady who initially took us on the tour was so sweet and lovely and super helpful. The exterior of the building when it comes to how clean it is, is fine but our loved ones room could use a little more upkeep but that is probably due to covid once again. We do not have enough interaction with the care takers to really see what is going on, but we do know they have nurses and doctors on the staff on site. Our loved one loves the place, she is comfortable and happy there. She says the food is fine and there has not been a thing on her plate yet that she hasn't eaten. We were very impressed.

I love the caring supportive staff. I am confident and comfortable that this is my dad’s new home. In May 2018, I became his full time caregiver and was concerned about the transition from long term independent living to the caregiver roll at my own home - Dad wasn’t totally happy. I’ve heard this is normal but it’s hard for me (his caregiver) to admit that MY home was not the best place for him. Since May 2019, he’s blossoming and it’s a wonderful thing to see. He has friends he has companionship. I couldn’t be happier for him! I hope I eased someone’s mind today.

Sunrise is beautiful, clean, and well staffed. The apartments are well done, close to the dining rooms, and situated for optimal exposure to other residents. The staff is responsive to needs from family, and professional as well as warm with the residents. I am very happy to have my mother in this community.

The people at Sunrise were amazing to work with when my 95 year old mother's stroke made it impossible for her to continue to drive and live independently in the home she had lived in for over fifty years. The care my mother received was outstanding. The staff was caring and made an effort to get to know my Mom. The provided me a wealth of information to help my Mom. Their cooperation was particularly valuable since I was coordinating her care from thousands of miles away before I could get back to Michigan and help her move in to Sunrise. Everyone from the sales staff to the care givers were first rate. I cannot recommend this facility with any higher rating. If I was not moving my mother to Washington to be closer to me, she would have been a permanent resident at Sunrise. Lovely place!

The staff at Sunrise Assisted Living of Bloomfield Hills have been wonderful with my mom. They have been very attentive and they encourage her to be a part the activities offered there. My mom likes to go out on the field trips, they take them out to lunch once a week, they offer church services and they bring in lots of entertainment for the residents. There is a nice wrap around porch for the residents to go outside and my mom was able to bring her dog with her and they make sure that they walk her dog twice a day as well. I was impressed with the follow-up by Sunrise when I was looking for a place for my mom, they had other options for me to look into if I had not been able to move her into their facility.

So far the new transition is going well for my parents. They are liking it but it is a little small for them. My dad doesn't like the noise from the busy road that is located outside their apartment. They have been happy with the food, it is fantastic. The people are good here
