October 14, 2024Hello, Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad to hear that your experience with our care team has been positive. We would love to connect with you directly to address any concerns. Since we can’t reach out due to the anonymous nature of your review, please call our community and ask to speak with our Executive Director. Thank you.
My mother has been at StoryPoint for a couple months in the assisted living area. It took some getting used to, but she seems to generally be happy now. She did have some issues at the beginning with staff not understanding the limitations of her Parkinson’s disease, but she says most of the staff are very nice.

October 10, 2024Hi Dwight, Thank you for your review! We have a dedicated team committed to providing the best care for our residents. We value your feedback and want to ensure we fully understand your concerns. Please feel free to call our community directly and ask to speak with our Executive Director. Thank you!
The food is not good and it feels like they are charging a lot of $ and try to increase the costs while scrimping on services which felt like a bait and switch. They were very hit and miss with delivering my mom's cup of meds to her consistently and that was worrisome and infuriating and obviously not optional and they now charge [fee removed] a month for that care cost and that's the lowest level. It is in a great location, it looks like a boutique hotel, and there is a high staff turnover but everyone is cheery and energetic for the most part. They promise weekly apartment cleaning, they will do your laundry if you want them to, and they do daily trash removal and are supposed to be making the bed daily. The cleaning lady is a 10. The laundry is a 5 because it's convenient but they don't take care with the clothes they just throw them in the washer and then the dryer. You can use the laundry room yourself which is what my mom does. The bed making is a 1 because it rarely happens. There are only 66 residents which is great and they have a decent number of activities which my mom is mostly enjoying. They used to have a shuttle that would take them wherever they wanted to go within 6 miles I think, and there were weekly trips that alternated between groceries/target and excursions to local restaurants. The new owners nixed that which is awful. My mom looked at 3 places this was the nicest by a MILE. We looked at 2 others in her price range and they were both run down and depressing. There were just people in various states of awareness just hanging about the ground floor in wheelchairs and and walkers with no one attending them. The area with the TV seemed like more of a prison entertainment area . Just a TV mounted on the wall with a bunch of scattered metal folding chairs. Very stark. StoryPoint (my mom's place- formerly The Sheridan) does have a screening room and it's got leather club chairs and a big screen. Feels like a really nice home theater. I do wish my Mom had wanted to look at more places in vicinity but I think the experience was overwhelming and depressed her. So, I think it is one of the nicest places in the area. I think rent before care costs is around [fee removed] a month. Supposedly the nicest in the area is All Seasons which is in a great location in downtown Birmingham but I've heard it starts a [fee removed] just for rent. So, my mom's is probably one of the best in the new area but my sister and I and the residents feel like they are taking advantage of seniors and prioritizing profits over patients well being.

August 20, 2024Hello Alison, Thank you for leaving a review of our community. We connected with our team and could not identify your affiliation with us based on your name and the details of your review. We also wanted to note that our community has over 100 residents, not 66. We also wanted to confirm that we did not get rid of our shuttle but instead increased our transportation availability to four days a week. We want to connect with you as soon as possible to address your concerns. Please call our community and ask to speak with our Executive Director. Thank you!
Very responsive to patients and very willing to answer questions and requests.

My mother remembers the places that she put her mother and father, and didn't want to be anywhere but her own home as she got older. After a fall in January she couldn't go home by herself from the hospital, and after a few weeks there we moved her to StoryPoint "for a couple of months of recovery." Mom likes the other residents and quickly made some new friends. After one week she told us to sell the house, because she didn't want to go back. I don't think that she realized until then how isolated she had been at home by herself. She really enjoys the music recitals, and using her walker, can go outdoors and walk around. Her room is sunny and pleasant, and we brought furniture and put pictures on the wall to make it feel more like home.

May 6, 2024Hi John, It's great to hear that your mom is enjoying the fun, social atmosphere our team provides to our residents! We understand the transition from home to a community can be difficult, and we are grateful to have your mom in our care knowing that she is having fun with the amenities and activities in our community. Social activity is important to us! We appreciate your review.
The executive director is not very skilled at her position. There is only an "acting" director of health and wellness . The executive chef is not very good. The menu is sophomoric. Care staff some are excellent, most need training. The whole facility needs qualified leaders. Standard procedures need to be established and followed. Poor management. Care level has improved since February. I have had to readdress issues several times. There is a blame game they like to play. It takes emails to corporate to get a response.

We picked this community because, the memory care was less of an institutionalized feeling, and it was a closer location. It is an amazing place, where the caregivers love the people. They treat the residents like family, with love and respect. I cannot praise them enough. I would tell other families, go to the community, they are wonderful. Overall, we are very happy.

October 4, 2022Our residents love when family and friends come to visit. So do we! Thanks for dropping by and leaving us this great review.
We really enjoy it, think its the best place for my Mom. She is receiving good care. She is in memory care with alternating activities that do not confuse her but something keeps her engaged. They have numerous ones at different times. They cater to her needs. They help my Mom to have more interaction with others. Their covid protocols have been really good during this pandemic.

March 7, 2022We appreciate you choosing our community for your loved one and value your feedback. If there is anything else our team can do for you, please let us know!
The Sheridan’s web site and marketing material say all the right things, but our 92/90 year old parents experience daily service quality issues. This last week there was another 70 minute wait. This means 92 year old Dad has to provide care for Mom who is a stroke victim. We have provided the Sheridan of examples over and over again. Our concern is that both parents fall down due to the lack of care at the Sheridan. They say the right things but nothing changes

November 22, 2021We appreciate your candor. Our community is committed to providing nothing short of exceptional service and care to the residents who call our community home. Sincerely, Jordan, Executive Director.
My mother went in to the Sheridan the day before the assisted living places closed for coronavirus. It was a difficult year for everyone. The management is doing a good job keeping the residents safe. I think most if not all residents are vaccinated and they are still being tested regularly. Mom has exercise class every morning and there are different fun activities in the afternoon. They have live entertainment, and a happy hour of some type about once a week. The food is great and enjoys all her choices. It is possible to do as much or little as you want. The other residents are friendly as well. My Dad was in the memory care unit for a few months before he died(he was 93). They were hard working and very kind to my parents. Anyway, My Mom would recommend the Sheridan and so do I!

September 25, 2021Thank you Marilee for sharing your family's experience with others. As you know, finding the right place to call home for your loved ones can be difficult. We know other family's and seniors will appreciate your perspective.
Our family was able to do an in person tour and we just fell in love with it, the building was absolutely beautiful. However, after doing research on the internet we saw they had a lot of bad reviews. We asked them in person and we just did not believe their answers.
I was able to the see the outside only due to the pandemic going on when I visited. The community was quieter and the location was a bit more secluded.

A Place for Mom has scored StoryPoint Birmingham 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
