Overall, I love it here. However, I would not recommend going to a retirement home like this with a guy dog, because everyone wants to pet it, feed it and all that stuff. I also think the rent goes up faster than the cost of living raises due. Other than that, though, I'm very happy here and love it and glad that I went through A Place For Mom for this choice.... Our family had an in person tour and the cleanliness was fine but the overall feeling was dark and dreary.
Response from Summer Place
December 7, 2021Thank you for considering at Summer Place. We regret we are not the perfect fit for you but hope you will reconsider us in the future!
I would encourage you to check out this community. There are social aspects to this community. They will make it easier on your loved one by providing meals and housekeeping once a week. The staff that work here are very helpful. There are some activities available for the residents. There are chairs out front to socialize along as well as in the dining room. The biggest complaint my loved ones have is the food. The meals don't come out hot and it seems very repetitive in meal options. There was a change to the meals in the last 6-8 weeks.

Living alone for twenty years before moving into Summer Place, Mom’s enthusiasm for life had waned. Now it’s largely back. She’s going for walks again instead of just sitting around her apartment, has made the first real friends she’s had in years, and is eating better. She went from a two-bedroom apartment to a studio with hardly any problem- in fact, it’s easier for her to function and she’s less confused with less room and “stuff” to worry about. The staff is very friendly. From Day 1 she said she likes the food, which is so important because her diet was terrible living alone. And they have a van service for appointments- a life saver!

The location is great and the community has a good value for your money. Communication could be better. My loved one really loves the food and I would recommend this community to others. They have had a good covid plan and have kept the residence safe.

Go take a tour. There is some turnover, but not much. When people move in, they tend to stay there. Your loved one will definitely enjoy it. They've been offering lots of activities, despite the Covid situation. The staff is very nice, and they definitely cater to your loved one. They're certainly better at dealing with day to day issues than I could be. They're very caring and nurturing. We looked at other places, and based on what Summer Place offers, Summer Place seems like the best value.

We chose Summer Place at the time because it was affordable and the location to family. The apartment sizes here are nice, she is in a glorified studio and it really works for her. I have heard others residents also talk about how they enjoy their apartment size. The residents have not received their covid shots yet. Another issue we have had is they are short staffed quite a lot. I do think the facility itself needs some cosmetic updating. Overall, I would recommend them.

Summer Place is an independent living community so they do not really offer any care services. We really liked the convenience of this community it is pretty close to our home. Summer place is very welcoming and pleasant looking and is very clean

Very cozy place to live. The rooms are bright and cheery! The building needs a facelift to keep up with all the other independent care facilities in same area. The food needs much improvement. It is awful. I also feel staff (management) should be there overnight. At one time the managers (2) lived at Summer Place. Felt way more secure having my Dad living there at that time. All staff go home at 7:30. No one available for folks living there after that. I feel that yearly increases in rent should never exceed 3 percent. That is reasonable. This year it was more than 6 percent, with no renovations or updates to the place, that I feel is needed. Last year it was close to 6 percent also. Way to much for these elders with limited funds.

I had recently taken a tour of this community for my parents and I was not impressed at all of what I had seen. I ended up not even taking my parents to look at it after my first impression of the facility. It was a very depressing atmosphere and felt like I was in a ghost town when I had walked in. Everything was out of date and the carpets as well as the wall paper just seemed like it had not been changed in decades. Another thing I was not very pleased with was the staff. They where not very professional during our visit and just was not flexible in any of the questions I had for them. I would not want my parents living in a place like this one.

We toured this community for my sister, and her needs. We had a pleasant tour. Everyone was kind to my family, and I. The community was clean, and appeared to be well maintained. It was a good experience, but we did find another community that my sister was more fond of.

I had a nice tour of this retirement community. Everyone was kind, and friendly to me. The community was nice, and clean from what I saw. The staff I met was kind, and helpful. They answered my questions, and the experience went well overall. Unfortunately my love one needed more care than they were able to provide.

This is a nice community, and my tour of it was a good one overall. From what I saw the community looked, everything was well maintained. The staff was friendly, and kind. There were many factors that played into where to move my loved ones too. Their prices were to expensive for our budget.

I thought this was a nice community when I visited. The person that took us on tour was nice and helpful. The community seemed clean. This community does not really offer assisted living. They have a base price and then they have additional charges for other services that may be needed.

I tried the food at this community it was ok but I felt like it was a little salty. The community is clean and well taken care of. I think they could use another elevator. Mom likes some of the daily activities and the patient staff are good at encouraging her to participate.

A Place for Mom has scored Summer Place 9.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
