Our mother has advanced Alzheimers and our priorities have always been her safety and happiness. Preston House provides a safe and caring environment for her to thrive in. They handle the needs of later stage Alzheimer residents which we found to be critical as not all memory care communities offer that level of care. At Preston House, our mother is never lonely and has a nice circle of friends, gets her hair done weekly at their salon, and enjoys the meals and activities that Preston House offers. She is always clean and neatly dressed and on special outings they make sure she is decked out with jewelry and lipstick. Everyone who works at Preston House treats Mom with kindness and respect and they are committed to making sure the residents are happy and well cared for. Our family has been connected with Preston House for 12 months. In a year, we have seen so much love and care toward the residents and their families. A dementia related diagnosis is hard to comprehend. Yet at Preston House, we sit with our loved one, interact with the other residents, share stories with staff and care providers, chat with other families and through it all, recognize that we’re not alone in the journey. Everyone at PH cares so much and makes it their job to keep our loved one safe. When we’re with our family member, we focus on him and nothing else. PH goes above and beyond to plan seasonal events for residents and families which deepen our relationships.

Response from Preston House
October 25, 2024Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We are truly grateful that you chose our community for your loved one. Our mission is to create a welcoming and caring environment for all our residents, families, and team members, and it warms our hearts to know that you’ve felt the love and support we strive to provide. We are honored to be a part of your journey and to support you and your loved one every step of the way.
Losing a loved one, a spouse, a parent or family member to health issues, personality changes, and forms of dementia is often traumatic and an overwhelming emotional experience. When care at home is no longer possible, finding the right care facility is important. I am relieved to have found that Peston House provides a better level of care and attention than many health care facilities we have experienced over the years with other family members. The rooms and surroundings are simple, attractive and efficient. The meals are appropriate and good, and the small building is easy for my husband to navigate. There also is a large, fenced backyard and patio. The RN is available almost everyday, and easily contacted to answer questions. After a few weeks to settle in, I and our family feel my husband is contented and as happy and safe as possible in a difficult care situation. We find the staff attentive, courteous, hard working and caring. Thank you Preston House.

October 25, 2024Hi Audrey, thank you for taking the time to leave a kind review for Preston House. We are so happy that you and your loved one find the community welcoming, the care team knowledgeable, and the environment helps your loved one thrive.
It's always hard to leave your loved one in the care of others. I had to quickly find a place that could physically transfer from bed to wheelchair etc. Preston House was the best fit for my Mom. Caring, knowledgeable people, well trained. They keep me informed of progress or changes by phone or in person. Very clean, in a nice neighborhood.

October 11, 2024We are thrilled that you had a positive experience with our team members. Resident care is our top priority, and we are dedicated to assisting each resident in meeting their daily living needs. Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and we look forward to continuing to provide exceptional service to all our residents. Thank you for choosing our community.
I found the staff to be friendly and patient with a group that is tough to be patient and friendly with. We liked the relatively small size and simple set up of the facility. We feel that is the best thing for someone going through what our mother was going through.

July 11, 2024Thank you so much for your glowing review! We are delighted to hear that your mom is well cared for, as she's a wonderful resident of our community. Our team is dedicated to going above and beyond for both our residents and their families, and it's wonderful to know that their efforts are making a positive impact. Treating our residents with dignity, respect, and honoring their choices is at the core of what we do. Your kind words mean a lot to us and we appreciate your support.
Preston House has this big activity calendar with all the daily activities. THEY DO NONE OF THEM. [name removed] was activities director. Last year her plan was to drive residents to every park in the county on Wednesday. She would drive there, get out and take a picture , and drive back. I suggested box lunches because most have tables. She said she couldn't get people to help with it. They had instructions on what to do if there was a tour. Some of the caregivers were really caring, but they did little to interact with the residents. [name removed] was safe there.

I will never recommend Preston House to anyone. In my opinion, there is not enough staff for the level of care needed by most of the residents. I thought the food was terrible. I tried to check the menus so I would know when I was going to have to bring food for my husband, however, most of the time they didn't have them posted. If I took him outside to sit on the patio, in order to get back into the building I would have to bang on a window or the door so someone could let us back in. There was no doorbell or call button outside on the patio to ask a staff member let us back in.

When it comes to the meals and dining service, they eat on Styrofoam plates with plastic cups and silverware. I have yet to see any activities. All of these places are terrible. They are just warehousing for the old.

January 19, 2024Hi Lori, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your positive experience! Recommendations like yours mean a lot to us, and we truly appreciate your trust in our care and services. I said very clearly that my husband needed assistance toileting but when I wasn't there he only seemed to get assistance in the morning and maybe at night. I had to clean feces from all over the bathroom several times as well as from under his fingernails. I made it very clear he has stage 4 kidney disease yet water was only offered at meal times until we provided a mini fridge for his room and I supplied him with 6 bottles of water each day. They consistently served him food I explicitly told them he would not eat. If they give a residents meds at night, they wake them up to give them to them around 9:30-10:00 pm instead of prior to them retiring for the night. Most residents are in their room except for meals or they sit/nap in front of the TV in the living room. I wanted him to receive socialization instead of watching TV all day long and most of the time when I wasn't there he was in his room watching TV. Now he's going to adult day care three days a week and is getting socialization and it's a much better situation. He did not leave on good terms. When I checked him out I didn't realize they only gave me 2 day's worth of meds...they didn't send any of the refills so I had to scramble to get new scripts for him so he wouldn't miss any doses of his meds, especially his BP meds. I feel really bad for some of the residents because while my loved one was there and I was visiting I could go get a CNA to let them back into their rooms so they could toilet, ask for toilet paper for them for their bathrooms, paper towels, etc. A lot of them do not have family visiting regularly and don't have anyone to advocate for them.

I toured with and really liked Preston House. Out of all of the places that I looked, this facility was my second choice. I loved [name removed] at Preston House, she was wonderful. I just liked the Bridge to Rediscovery program at [facility name removed].

I was in a bind. I had to find a place for my mom fast. She was being priced out of her current Memory Care facility. Then I met up with Candice Myers at Preston House in Charlotte. From my first meeting I felt like we were home. My mom was welcomed and fit right in. [name removed] was able to show me around and explained everything in an easy process. She really stepped up for me and my mom in a difficult situation. [name removed] toured us around Preston House and everyone was so friendly. We met Drey who keeps the place neat and in shape. We could have talked all day. I met [name removed] the Wellness Director and she took such a great interest in my mom. I could keep going on but I just want to say - I am so glad we found [name removed], [name removed], [name removed] and all the other people at Preston House. Mom is doing great.

[name removed] and [name removed] made this painful decision to place my husband of 61 years in Preston House almost painless. They genuinely cared about my husband and listen to my fears and concerns. This has been hardest decision in my life and the pain of doing this was unbearable but [name removed] and [name removed] made me feel at ease and at peace I will always be sad that at 84 years old I had to place him in a Alzheimers facility but I do have peace I put him in the Preston House. I'm heartbroken but everyone has been so kind, caring and professional. I cried all the way home but I found some inner peace knowing my soul mate is in good hands with Preston House staff, plus I made two new friends. Nothing but praises from first call to actually taking my husband and leaving him at Preston House. Thank you Preston House for giving me the peace I needed to go on without him.

Based on our experience and what we think Preston House community could improve on - is their communication, they could have better staff, and to be honest and not mislead family members with information.

This is a good community for memory care. The staff is caring, and I feel safe leaving my loved one here. There are three meals a day served to the residents and the meals are good. It would be nice to see what the upcoming meals will be for the residents. The activities are okay, it would be nice to see a little more engagement with the residents to participate in the activities. There is nice calendar of activities that are available, it would be nice to see more follow through on these activities.

My wife had some behavioral problems and they were willing to take her here at Preston House. I am happy that she is here because this facility focuses solely on memory care. It is far away from our house, but it has worked out great. It was designed for memory care and you can tell by the lay out. All of the rooms are close by. All of the staff are very friendly and know everyone's names and their likes and dislikes. They also get to know the family members as well. We are very pleased and would definitely recommend to others looking for memory care.

There was not too much social interation. It was an open space, which allowed them to see what was going on with the residents. It was not a a bad facility, but did not seem to be a good fit for my loved one.
Overall they do a pretty good job. I think, like everywhere, they are having problems with staffing. The food is lacking and communication between Preston House and our family is lacking as well. For example: posting the menu for upcoming meals of that week is a hit or miss. When we visit, what's posted is often incorrect or there's nothing posted at all. They are also slow to respond to email requests, phone calls, or any type of communication. But they are understaffed from a management standpoint as well. Our move in process was fine. We had some things we wanted moved out of the room, and they got it moved out in time like we asked. It's still an overall pretty good place, and they do provide adequate care in this difficult time.

The community is very clean and the staff members have been so friendly. Overall we have been very happy and pleased with the care our loved one has been receiving these last couple months. The activities director has done a really good job trying to engage the residents and she gets them out on the patio when the weather is nice for some respite care. The meals look to be very nutritious and there are snacks in the afternoons. We would recommend this community to others based on our experience.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
