We have had a very good experience with Peregrine Guilderland. My Mom has slowly assimilated in, she has had good encouragement from staff. Overall experience- very good Cleanliness- very good, she did have to ask at the beginning for some help making bed and more thorough clean of bathroom and carpets. Friendliness has been excellent, caring staff. Very good care, she was hesitant to ask for help at first, but seems to have made the right contacts now. Food is very good, with alternate choices when she doesn't care for the main menu. Activities are very good, she is just starting to participate in more activities. It has been a big change for her. We think it is good value for the cost.... Read more

May 12, 2024Thank you for sharing your positive experience with Peregrine Senior Living at Guilderland. We are pleased to hear that your Mom has been receiving good encouragement from our staff and that she is slowly assimilating into our community. We appreciate your feedback regarding cleanliness and are glad to hear that she is now receiving the assistance she needs. Our team is dedicated to providing a friendly and caring environment for all residents, and we are thrilled to hear that your Mom has made the right contacts for help. We are also glad to hear that she is enjoying the food options and activities available to her. Thank you for choosing Peregrine Senior Living at Guilderland for your Mom's care.
Their ability to have eyes on the residents is very important to me. Everybody is spoken to, and looked after very lovingly. To restate the top questions-I find the place incredibly clean, very beautiful and homelike, the staff is actually very loving, just yesterday we all played a game of balloon badminton together. My favorite to play with my mom. The staff is constantly looking to engage them in the planned activities of the day. People are left alone if they opt out. My mom's religious needs are met which is important. The food offered is very varied with thoughtful portions, and the food staff are very attentive and kind. My mom enjoys the food. My mom is kind and is treated like family by the staff and to see her. have new friends at almost 99 years old is just incredible for us.

Response from Peregrine Guilderland
March 5, 2024Hi there! Thank you for the kind and thoughtful feedback. We are happy to hear that your mom has settled in well here at the community! It is very heartwarming to know that our team efforts positively influence mom's overall quality of life. We are always happy to receive feedback so we know what is going well and if there are areas in which we can improve. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences. It means a lot to us all here at Peregrine Guilderland to know that our residents and their families are happy to be here with us!
My mother was a resident at Peregrine Guilderland and it was not a good fit for her. I would recommend this facility for someone who is quite independent. It just wasn't what my mother needed.

What we like the most about the Peregrine Guilderland community is that they seem to be helping out with everything she needs help with. I can't complain since she isn't. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families.

My mom and my family are extremely happy with Peregrine. My mom has improved in a number of ways physically and mentally being among the constant stimulation, good food, and incredibly loving care by the staff. The building, grounds and units are incredibly well-maintained also. I am grateful for the experience and for being directed to try this facility. She is very happy, so grateful. Thank you.

The people at Peregrine at Guilderland are very friendly and overall it is a good community. We like how the staff address our loved one by her name and she is happy and safe there which is what matters. However there are some gaps when it comes to the transitioning of a new residents so we think that area could be improved and maybe have a better onboarding process.

Seemed like a nice community, but ended up choosing one that was closer for the immediate family.

Our family had an in person tour and the tour experience was very nice, the staff members were very helpful and they showed us all the activities going on. However the rooms were more like postage stamps, there was no space at all and it felt very claustrophobic.
I thought it was a good place. I was there quite a bit, and it was clean. The staff was very helpful, cooperative, and supportive. Occupational and physical therapy were on point and quite informative when things changed. My loved one was only there for about a month, so it was difficult for her to make the transition, but everybody did what they could to help her out.

It was a nice, comfortable environment for my loved one, compared to other communities we looked at. It had more of a cozy and homey feel. Due to the pandemic there weren't a lot of activities offered.

At first, I was totally on board and recommending them. The sales person was wonderful. I don't know that I would mention them to others now. They've had consistent problems with communication and getting back to me. And I'm extremely disappointed in that. I will say that the executive director is good about getting back to me. And the day-to-day workers are wonderful. They're great at handling my loved one's medications. I picked them because they have a memory care unit, and they offer a lot of activities - painting, bingo, stories, movies, etc. And they stop by and encourage the residents to participate.

Tour was very well organized and informative. Facility is very clean, modern and accessible for seniors requiring help. [name removed] was very well informed and was able to answer all of my (many) questions.

Care was good at first but went downhill. Care plan was put in place for safety concerns but was not followed resulting in several injuries and ER trips. Atria never took responsibility and sited staff shortage and placed responsibility on the person with dementia. Communication with the family also was lacking.

I would say don't go there. There was poor nursing care, inattentive staff, medical errors, and medicine errors. The paperwork was ridiculous, and I couldn't leave a voicemail for anyone. I wouldn't send my dog to them. The nurse supposedly that is on staff there, she is on call for the entire country. They only have LPN's and no RN like advertised.

The food is not good and by the time they get it to your room it is always cold. There are few activities and the ones scheduled are frequently cancelled. Usually they get cancelled because staff did not show up to work. The only good thing is that it is near a Stewarts so you can get something decent to eat there.

You are basically alone in your room 24 - 7. Cold food is delivered with a small cup of soda for a beverage (coffee in the AM - cold). It is awful. There used to be activities but they were slowly eliminated. It is isolation.

The common areas of the community were very well maintained. They only came in to clean the resident rooms once a week and I didn't feel like they did a very good job with that; it seemed like they were doing the bare minimum. The staff was friendly, however when my mother needed medical assistance, they seemed quick to determine that she was no longer a good fit for the community. Until the Covid-19 pandemic, mother was enjoying the activities they had to offer and the food from the dinning room. Atria is pretty expensive, however it seems comparable to other communities in the area.

Care services were not good. No daily activities. They were very understaffed. Staff were honest and wanted to do more. They had no activities whatsoever for the memory care residents to do. They never went on any outings or left the locked unit. Unit is too small. Does not smell good.

A Place for Mom has scored Peregrine Guilderland 8.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
