My wife had a stay due to illness at the Otterbein Skilled Nursing Facility wing at their Lebanon, Ohio complex. The treatment she received from the nurses, aides, therapists and all the staff were amazing. They were also very accommodating to me while I stayed with her. They not only took great care and time to work with her daily needs and rehabilitation but also explained to me what they were doing, why she needed it and how it will help get better and also taught me how to continue her rehabilitation when she went home.

All of the staff at Otterbein Lebanon have been very helpful and everyone is very friendly. The apartments are great size, definitely big enough for one person. I highly recommend Otterbein for retirement living.

Response from Otterbein Lebanon SeniorLife Community
September 5, 2024Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear that you found our Partners (staff) at Otterbein Lebanon SeniorLife Community to be helpful and friendly. It's also great to know that you're pleased with the apartment sizes and overall living experience. We have a wide variety of activities like our craft room, wood shop, and train room, dining experiences, and events for residents to participate in, including the Otterbein Olympics. Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we're thrilled to be part of your life's journey.
We love that there is so much to do at Otterbein Lebanon SeniorLife Community. The dining experience is really not good. However, they are short staffed which causes inconsistent quality of food, run out of foods offered.

We gave the care services a 4 but she is independent this is based on a few services here and there. Our loved one has made comments that the food is ok. Sometimes it is great and other times not so much. However, the dining room itself is great. She really only does cards for activities, but she loves it. She really liked that they had stuff/glasses for the eclipse.

December 19, 2023Thank you so much for such kind words and amazing feedback. Otterbein strives to make sure we are meeting every residents' individual needs when they stay with us. My mother has dementia and is in Assisted living at Otterbein Lebanon. It is a beautiful place but the care is lacking. We have continually found that her room is very dirty, laundry not done, sheets not changed on her bed for weeks, food trays and trash pile up and are not taken out of her room When we try to find someone to help we usually find aids sitting around on their phones and we don't get anywhere! We are supposed to be called when a doctor sees her or orders a new prescription and this does not happen and we find out by accident. The lobbies are beautiful but the individual rooms are lacking.

Response from Otterbein Lebanon SeniorLife Community
December 19, 2023The health and wellbeing of our elders is our first priority at Otterbein along with the happiness and safety of our partners. We work diligently to ensure that our elders get the utmost quality of care and that our partners work in a safe and supported environment. Please message us your contact information so that we can have a member of leadership contact you and address any concerns you may have.
Mostly the activity level. I am sure it is location specific, but her floor of independent living apartments is very social. But the Otterbein big activities are numerous and very well done. Mom is on a meal plan for dinners. The dining room is not very nice by competition's standards, but a "refresh" is coming early next year. Staffing the dining room is a big issue. My moms personality is very social and she took right to this style of living. She wishes she had done it sooner.

Everyone is amazing and encouraging to newcomers. To keep them active and involved in activities. I would recommend Otterbein Lebanon to others, in fact my mother is also looking to move there, she loves my mother-in-law's place and they talked about how good it is.

I thought Otterbein Retirement was fantastic. But it was too big, with multiple floors. I felt it would be hard to navigate for my loved one with vision problems. But they had a pool and nice amenities - just things she wouldn't have used. But I think it would be a great place for younger or more active seniors.
It is worth coming to Otterbein Retirement Living Community. This place is beautiful and feels like a family. There would be times the orders would be wrong, and they would deliver the food to the residents.

Our father loves to participate in their arts and craft classes and the exercise classes. They also have a hair salon on site that our mother likes to use, and we would recommend this community to others.

My experience was just before COVID. We chose Otterbein Retirement Living because of the value and what they had to offer in terms of activities. The apartment sizes here seem to be adequate. Overall, my brother likes a lot of the food, but there are some meals that he doesn't like. I would want others to know that they have a variety of levels of quality in terms of apartments. If you have more money, you are able to get a newer, nicer place. My brother moved into one of the older apartments but they were still fixed up very nice. I would definitely recommend.

We really liked the different levels of activities that were available as well as the accessibility of various levels of services. This seemed to be a very close knit community. The rooms they offer for the residents are extremely nice, well thought out and it is not to much and not to small.

My mother was in nursing for a month. Not enough help. Was not pleased at all with her care. For a retirement facility of this stature, nursing was the worst. Brought her home. Would rather pay for good care instead of payout money for awful care.

Our move in was not without problems. Our storage area was filled with bins we have no idea who they belonged to. However we were allowed to move them to another area so that we could use ours. Our guest room (where we stayed the first night) smelled very strongly of "dog". The previous guests evidently had a pet there and the cleaning people did not clean properly. It took forever to get someone to respond to our issues. 1. Additional shelves for storage, 2. light bulbs that were burnt out. Since we've been here almost three months now, things have smoothed out and we have resolved all of our issues.

Otterbein was a well kept, clean and bright facility in the main building where my sister and I were looking for my mother's next home. The activities for independent living were impressive. The rooms were clean and bright.

A Place for Mom has scored Otterbein Lebanon SeniorLife Community 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
