The best part of Narrows Glen is the staff members and management that make everyone feel welcome and secure. I am very pleased with the care involved with daily life for example the detail of the meal preparations and service, the chefs are the best. The responsiveness of nursing staff, you can tell they have a genuine interest in the residents and are very professional in how they conduct themselves. The aids are kind and ready to help in any way they can to assist residents. Housekeeping services are exceptional. Also the building maintenance staff are welcome to assist in a timely manor. Very disappointed. We met with a salesperson (of 23yrs!) to start the process of moving dad to their memory care unit. We provided a full disclosure of why we were bringing him there including diagnosis and behavior. They strung us along for 2wks shifting the reason why they were having a hard time approving his application...finally declined his admittance. Poor communication/ no one would call us back. Decision seemed arbitrary as nothing in his Drs report was any different then what we told them initially. Needless to say this is a hard and late decision for mom, Narrows Glen was not respectful to our family.

Response from Narrows Glen
September 23, 2020We apologize if your mother’s assessment took longer than expected. Having loved one with memory care needs can be complex and challenging and it is important to us that our resident's needs are met - which is why we have a thorough assessment process. And although Narrows Glen may not be the right fit for your mother, we hope the community referrals offered by our sales director may be able to help. We wish you and your family the best. Sincerely, Bruce Erickson Executive Director
My stepmom lived in their memory care unit for over three years. I am so grateful to their wonderful, caring staff that kept her spotless and treated her like family. It is an excellent value given the facilities and staffing. I was not very impressed when she was in the regular assisted living section. Seemed like staff was unhappy or just didn't want to engage much with her. Perhaps they aren't trained to deal with memory problem issues.

I have been at Narrows glen for years and its always was wonderful, but in the last year the company seemed careless and cold, more corporate like. also the rates of the place went up tremendously yet nothing improved infact it seemed the head of the departments were less personal over time instead of becoming more personal. And talking within the building i didnt care for the neglect on how they are always understaffed and overworked. care staff always wonderful but seem unhappy mistreated.

Met Amber and had afternoon tour. Nice grounds with rent comparable and $1000 off move in by 7/31 special. Level of activity and social activities were too limited for uncle. No pool.

We narrowed our search down to this and one other community. Ultimately we chose the other community because it was nicer and less expensive. The studio apartments here were nicer than they were at the other place, though.

I really liked this place. It was important to me to have the 3 levels of care provided; I was impressed with the memory care wing when I toured it. Overall, rooms are decent size, I liked the staff, activities looked good. I liked the way they monitored meds for assisted living with computers and scanned photos. Loved the location! Beautiful grounds. Older building, but well kept. Rooms were the biggest I saw.

My mom is very happy there. We checked out 3 different places and the price of this one was right in the middle so I think it's fair. For what she's getting I don't think it's overpriced. She's in the retirement seciton but even though she's in that care part they've been very good. If she does have an issue like she wanted a little wedge for her door because she has a scooter and that was not a problem. She's embraced some of the activities. The only problem is she's not a morning person so she's having trouble going to the store because they go kind of early in the morning. I wish they had a later afternoon trip. She's happy there. She has a 2 bedroom apartment. She does take advantage of the meals which start at 8 and goes until 3:30. Then they take an hour break to reorganize for dinner which starts at 4:30 and goes until 6:30. They have coffee, water, cookies and fresh fruit out all day. The grounds are beautiful!

It is a nice community. They are staffed well enough to complete the services offered. The community is very clean. It is less expensive then comparable community, about 30% less. Overall it is a nice community that is more budget friendly for the same services provided at comparable communities.

The Director was friendly and informative; directed lots of questions directly at mom; common areas on first floor and a rec area on separate floor but we didn't see it. older bldg so not as spacious as MG but mom saw spacious as "Big". Floor plans/hallways might be confusing for mom; rooms were sized right. showers were walk in with a slight step; transp provided to residents for sunday services. meds can be set up by us and mom take them on her own as long as Dr says ok; 4 brnr stoves in all units; electric cadet wall heaters; anytime dining; attched independent living units may be option for mom until she needs more care - besides care when needed, we need to figure financial requirments for insurance; the Director was the first person to bring up diversity in [removed] 77 assist living apts/144 independent apts; 2 LPNs til 8:30pm (2shift with an overlap); RN works 2hrs/day 5 days a week and on call 24/7; Assist Dir is also an LPN; 3 caregivers per floor; 2 med techs.

I was very impressed with the director and Narrows Glen. He was very helpful. On the tour he called residents by name, also staff members. It was not as expensive as I thought, but they do not accept Medicaid which could be important in the long run.
