If you read over the website or take a tour the place sounds too good to be true and it is. What they sell in terms of care, assistance and programming vs what they actually deliver are VERY very different. If you start asking questions you will get bounced from one person to the next. The director of Nursing will tell you to talk to the memory care coordinator who will then say it's a clinical decision. round and round... Over the course of weeks I spent there with a parent who was paying for the highest level of care, I learned first hand that just about everything they claimed during our tour was false and they have no problem leaving someone in there room alone all day. Not waking them for meals and just leaving a tray of food in the room to get cold. When your loved one begs you to get out of there because they're lonely and depressed you should listen. My loved family member pleaded not to be left to die alone there because that is how they felt there.

Cleanliness...I would give them a 5...very clean...smells good. I would give them a 5...the aides...the nurses...even the house keeping always say hello. When it comes to the activities, my Dad doesn't do any. Price just went up [fee removed] a month. I do think the food could be a little better or more care can come when a different entree is ordered. Overall we are happy w the care my Dad receives. There are many nice aides and nurses. I think as long as you visit your loved one and are involved in their care you will be happy w Maplewood.

The team at Maplewood is the best. They are caring and attentive, focused on the clients needs and that of the family support group. They listen, they respond and act quickly, and are genuinely warm and welcoming. I felt like I didn't have any options, was experiencing some memory loss and wasn't coping well. My niece suggested Maplewood at Newton. I've been here seven months now an the transition was easier than I expected because everyone here is so very kind. Coming here was the best decision!

It was a beautiful place and was told the level of care would meet my mothers needs. Although it's aesthetically beautiful, the level of care is not as strong as they present. One person on duty for many residents. Short staffed. Activities are not well planned and no encouragement to participate in the limited ones they have. No outdoor focus in beautiful weather. Dining room is warm and pretty but short staffed and no communication or coaching/prompting on menu items for those who need it. It's just "what do you want to eat"? If the person can't articulate or is confused they get very limited food. Long wait times. Administration is not on the ball either. Issues moving in. So overall not so impressed.

Our parents, ages 89 and 94, moved into Maplewood at Newtown a year ago. Although it was initially an up and down journey for them to select a community, make a commitment to actually move, eventually sell their home, and navigate an independent living lifestyle -- they are now one year into their transition with absolutely no regrets. Maplewood at Newtown is a lovely facility with sincere, caring staff and plenty of activities. The staff is thoughtful and eager to accommodate their personal preferences to reflect their interests and habits. One example has been that our father was able to be a central contributor to the outdoor garden and there is now a "Green Thumb Club" which has been a lifesaver for him and also a great community-builder. They have met so many friends among both the residents and staff --and really are part of a community. There is always activity and others to be with right outside their door. I moved from a home I had been in for 50 years, with a river and memories of grown children. Maplewood quickly turned into my new home. The great feelings and creature comforts start with the executive directors and the feelings of camaraderie spread to the staff and residents.. Maplewood is a place of love. Fulfilled physical needs good. Any senior would blossom here.

I love living in this lovely, quiet, bright facility. The entire staff is dedicated to our comfort & well-being. Medical staff is very professional. Overall the atmosphere is caring and prompt to meet residents needs; efficient & well-run facility. Minuses - food could be fresher, more seasoning and varied.

My parents decided to live at Maplewood after touring and considering several assisted living facilities in the area. While any transition of this type is challenging, the move was made easier by the patience and care of the Maplewood staff. Everyone from the receptionist to the servers are kind, upbeat, and extremely helpful and accommodating. The Lifestyle Director, [name removed], has been particularly important in keeping my parents busy with entertaining events and educational activities. There is a Garden Club, a Spanish class, a Book Club, as well as lively events each month to mark holidays. As a family member of a resident, I cannot express how comforting it is to know that my parents are so well cared for - with their medical, emotional, mental, and social welfare looked after by this lovely staff. As a family, we cannot recommend Maplewood of Newtown more enthusiastically.
