The front office staff at Juniper Village at Spicewood Summit is friendly and calm The care staff nursing is great, but some of the day to day care staff do not perform up to expected standards with brief changes. For example: 2 different staff member occurrences within 7 months. Families have to check in often and follow up with the Assisted Living Director to get these issues taken care of to improve care taker quality. Families need to advocate for their elder often. Juniper Village at Spicewood Summit provides assisted living as well as rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing. With charming, homey touches throughout the community, residents can enjoy the well-appointed grounds from the courtyard’s gazebo or enjoy a fireside chat with a new friend. Veterans may also be eligible for benefits to help offset the cost of care.
The Spicewood Summit neighborhood provides a quiet, restful area to call home that’s still close to all your favorite spots in Austin, Texas. Area highlights include the Zilker Botanical Garden, LBJ Presidential Library, and the Cathedral of Junk — an off-beat art installation combining overgrown greenery and discarded items.
Juniper Village’s innovative Connect4Life program improves health and well-being. The program features on-site services such as therapy, pharmacy, primary care, and more — making Juniper a one-stop-shop for many health care needs. A dedicated medical concierge coordinates services on- and off-site, meaning families don’t need to worry about the details of their loved one’s care. Connect4Life also leads to better outcomes — an independent study confirmed that Juniper Village residents have lower re-hospitalization rates compared to residents of other senior living communities. Convenient, coordinated care keeps residents healthier and enables them to live more...

If you care about your loved one, avoid skilled nursing here. While some individual staff members were great and I think truly cared about my mother, much of the staff in unhappy, overworked and disengaged. This goes back to the management of this facility who's only goal is to provide prison quality care. The things I saw and experienced while my mom was here are frightening. I saw unattended elderly patients left on the floor as they slid out of their wheelchairs. They have what appears to be VERY FEW staff members overnight, leaving patients that require round the clock care neglected. They allowed my quadriplegic mother to fall out of her bed twice, sending her to the hospital for brain scans. It was often unclear who was "in charge". The support from the social worker was nearly nonexistent. My wife filed a complaint with the state. I would urge anyone considering this facility to find another.

My loved one was previously a resident at Juniper Village and I was not happy with this facility. I would not recommend them to others.

Very safe and honest. Residents all leave doors open when out of rooms. Also, everyone there is always smiling

My father was involved with the community for 20 years playing Santa Clause every Christmas. In his last days he spent it as a patient and they cared for him so lovingly. I will forever be grateful for the care and love they showed him and my family. Thank you Juniper.

After touring several places I recently decided to move my mom into Juniper Village. The assisted living was very homey and had a great courtyard. My mom fell in love with the courtyard and we visit outside on a regular basis when I'm there. She really enjoys all the activities and she loves Shelly, the activity lady. Mom has started gaining weight because she likes the food. I have been concerned about her weight for some time. She has made friends, which has made the transition much easier and I feel so comforted in her moving into Juniper Village. The staff at Juniper really care and I appreciate everything they do for mom. Thanks to the entire staff!

My husband spent his last days at Juniper. They checked on him often to make sure he was comfortable. The staff was very kind and sensitive to our families needs. Thank you for making the last few days of his life easier on us.

Response from Juniper Village at Spicewood Summit
January 23, 2024Thank you for the recommendation. It means so much to our team. We send our sympathies to you and your family.
Juniper Village just was not right for my mom. My mom is very particular and likes really nice things and her budget was such that she could afford to spend more. It is an older facility and showing that age. I know they are doing updates, but it still would not have been good for my mother. It was quite a lot less than the others we looked at, so the value is quite good. All of the staff was nice and helpful and no one was pressuring us.
This community is quiet relaxed and generally good care. They really have great intentions and are trying to improve since the management has changed over. They have activities like themed parties, fashion shows and more for the residents to have a good time. They have daily workout classes that all of the residents enjoy, people come in and give talks and more for the residents.

I liked that the staff that had been there for a long time, which I think speak volumes. Some of the caregivers had been there up to 20 years. The food service was very good as well. They had a menu with quite a few different choices, and you could order from it almost any time of the day. It was like having your own short order cook available.
Our family had an in person experience and we can't remember anything that stood out to us in a negative way. The community was clean but the price was a little to high. However, the negative we did have was not with the community but with the sales team, they were extremely pushy and way to aggressive which was a big turn off.
When my mother-in-law began having memory issues I chose to move her to this assisted living facility because it came highly recommenced to me by others and it was nearby so I could visit often. During her years there she also spent some recovery time (after hospital visits) in the skilled nursing facility area of the Juniper community. Both were good facilities. They have done a stellar job of keeping Covid out of the building and keeping the residents sane during Covid lockdowns. Many staff will go above and beyond their job descriptions to make things better for residents.

The tour was good knowledgeable and caring staff. Helped with all the question I could think of. I thought the facility and property was very well kept. So many big trees and cozy. I’m considering this establishment.

They have some super good people there, and the direct care people are great. However they needed our loved one to leave because he was exit seeking, and they did not give us any heads up which left a bad taste in our mouth. It was not handled well. The food there is not that good, the portions were small and very bland.

Brookdale Spicewood Springs under the Brookdale umbrella is disappointing. While I cannot say anything bad about the staff’s integrity and character, there has been a marked decline in quality management under the Brookdale umbrella. Good staff, just not enough of them. Call light response times border on complete abandonment with wait times as much as 50 minutes and some residents claiming no response at all. With possible head injuries this is concerning. Often EMS can gain access to a resident’s room quicker than Brookdale Staff, yet private medical alert systems are prohibited within the facility. After a 13 year residency, it is not in the best interest of our loved one to move. Many calls to staff regarding concerns have been met with placating instead of resolve. Detailed documentation regarding these calls, including staff responses, is available. People considering Brookdale Spicewood Springs should press staff for a written commitment regarding call light response times. Further, families considering any Brookdale facility should also press for details regarding frequency and amounts of rent increases. Our invoice amount for 1-01-15 care was $4,031; for 5-17-16 was $5,169; and currently is $5,458. Brookdale runs their facilities like a typical corporate environment—low overhead, more revenue. This is having a noticeable unfavorable impact on resident care. Unfortunately we’ve moved into an era where vigilance is necessary in eldercare facilities.

This is a nice community for care. The staff is very responsive and caring. The community offers a good environment. The menu is good and my mom likes the variety. She likes most of the activities that are offered. We like the care that she is receiving here and would recommend this community to other families for good care and a nice value

My father in law was at this community for a respite stay. For the most part everything went well. His only concern was the furniture, he is tall, and some the furniture was small for him. Other that issue, he is had a good experience. He was pleased with food, and enjoyed the resources provided. If needed he would return for another respite stay. It is a nice community, and I would recommend as well.

The community at Brookdale Spicewood Springs was our second choice. The community is nicely kept throughout. It was very nice and clean. The staff were very friendly and took the time to address all of our concerns. They were courteous and welcoming. The location was a bit further than what we wanted for our loved one.

My dad is receiving assistance from a good community, I am happy with the care. The caregivers are nice to speak with and they answer all my questions. The facility is clean for the resident and guests who visit. I am disappointed with the meals that are served. My dad thinks the food is bland and we have asked for improvements.
