About the facility Jennings Terrace

Welcome to Jennings Terrace — established in 1943 as a nonprofit, charitable facility, we strive to provide seniors with safe and affordable housing and health care services. We provide high quality services in a home-like setting, so residents can feel comfortable in a responsive and flexible environment. Residents are encouraged to involve themselves in our community but have the freedom to determine their level of independence and select their desired supportive services in an effort to preserve their dignity and independence.

Aurora is a dynamic and explorable city just 35 miles from Chicago. After appearing in the 1992 hit comedy Wayne’s World, the city has since become a fairly popular filming destination, with additional appearances in movies such as Let’s Get Harry and Paul Sorvino’s Precious Mettle. For more entertainment near our assisted living community, you can find Paramount Theatre, Phillips Park Zoo, Riveredge Park, shopping malls, museums, food truck festivals, the Aurora Farmers Market, and so much more. With all there is to discover and explore, a day spent in Aurora is certainly not a day wasted.

Friendly place

Everyone there is very nice! My dad is very happy there. I am told the food is great and they keep my father very busy. The facility is also very clean. Residents are also very friendly and happy to be there.

The Right Fit for my Mom

A huge thank you to the staff at Jennings Terrace. My 99 year old mom recently moved into the sheltered care there. The staff are incredibly kind, knowledgeable and sensitive to residents and their families. It isn't as fancy as some of the more expensive places but it is the real deal! I got such a hard sell at some of the other facilities we looked at that I started to get really put off by it. Jennings' staff are true professionals and they are there for the residents in a sincere way. We decorated my mom's room with her and she loves it. The maintenance people hung a beautiful light for my mom and got everything hooked up that she needed. The laundry lady (I will call her the Laundress:) does an beautiful job with my mom's clothing. It is a wonderful feeling to know she is there surrounded by such competent and kind people. Thank you to the staff and [name removed] for helping us during this time of transition with my mom.

Horrible administrator

The administrator in this building is horrible!! I was in this building visiting my mother and I heard screaming down the hallway. As I peeked through the door I saw a thin lady with white hair yelling obscenities at somebody as she made her way back to her office. Food was also horrible, the portions are insanely small even for these people!

Dedicated staff

It is not a fancy facility, but the staff are all very dedicated and give individualized attention to their residents. For the price, it is really worth it for the quality of care that they give. I would recommend Jennings Terrace highly to other families looking.

Very caring

My mother spent her last few weeks there. The staff was very caring for her in that time and also very helpful for us as we were trying to figure it all out. They were very kind to us up until when she passed away and even afterwards also.

Don't Let the Curb Appeal Persuade You

I would recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The staff are able to respond to questions or concerns, sometimes there is a delay with getting back to the family. They are willing to greet and assist with giving the phone to my loved one when I call. The community is located in a neighborhood, and during the summer it would be nice to see plants and maintain the lawn.

Our tour experience

Our family had an in person tour and the staff looked super nice, caring and genuine but the community itself looked and felt more like a nursing home. The rooms were small, you could fit a bed but they had a shared bathroom. Also the entire community was not air conditioned, at the time. You could put an window unit in, but with our loved ones breathing problem we thought that would of been an issues.

Jennings Terrace Does NOT provide exceptional Care at affordable prices.

Jennings Terrace does not have memory care or Alzheimer unit. They have a nursing care unit that provides substandard care at best. It wasn't always this way. Any of the actual professional nursing staff or actual Certified Nursing Assistants do not last very long before being fired or pushed out the door because they are verbal about the unjust treatment and questionable illegal treatment of residents. Management, executive director, and her neighbor and best friend are not held accountable to any one. Rules and protocals are put into place when it serves the two women in charge. Don't question them or you'll be the next one out the door. Many have tried to contact the board of directors concerning many issues that are unfair and unjust however the board of directors is kept a secret from the Residence and the residence families. Two out of the four 5 star ratings Jennings Terrace has received are from two women who are part of the office staff and were most likely coerced into providing those ratings. They are two very fine ladies who want to keep their jobs. My mother has been a resident at Jennings Terrace for many years. The last three, under the current regime have not been easy for any of the residents or for the staff that really does provide exceptional care.

You get what you pay for

What is promised during the tour is greatly exaggerated and not at all what the facility offers. The pricing is low however you get what you pay for, very small rooms with shared toilet and community shower. The food is substandard and the residents rarely get fresh fruit or vegetables, mostly canned. No activities offered during the evening. Mice infestations common, as well as bugs. Residents cannot control room temp so they are always too hot or cold. No computer room, very limited "gym" with one treadmill and 2 bikes, some free weights. 2 "outtings" per month, usually to Walmart. When touring look at the residents sitting in the lobby; you can tell a lot about how happy they are there by their expressions alone.

Clearly a facility that has been around a long time. The rooms are small with a shared toilet. A shower is down the hallway and was a turnoff for me along with the whole nursing home feel. Maybe a good fit for someone but not for my mom.

My Loved One Is Very Content

So far, my loved one seems to be doing okay at Jennings Terrace. The people there are nice, and he has been involved with a radio broadcast group to comes to the community. He is very interested in drama and acting, so this gives him a chance to enjoy this hobby with others. My only concern is that I think the rooms are very small. There is barely enough room for standard furniture like a twin bed and dresser. However, he seems very content there.

It Is Good In the Nursing Side

My brother is in the nursing care side of the community. The staff are professional and friendly. He gets suitable meals. The are getting him involved with exercises and book reading. They are communicating with me very good. It is close to me and it is something that can fit in our budget.

Various Meal Plans!

Jennings Terrace has various meal plans to accommodate their residents. The person that took me on tour was attentive and took me to see the bedrooms, dinning room, and activities center. I liked the set up of the rooms and the community. Unfortunately, this place didn't' work out for us the location wasn't very close.

The best community in the area!!

My husband was only in the memory care unit at Jennings Terrace for about 2 weeks before he passed away and it was the best place for him. The staff are friendly and work as a team, our doctor was also on the staff there. They made the last couple weeks peaceful and good. I would recommend this community to family and friends.
