The building is very nice as are the apartments. The residents are so friendly. There are many activities. There is transportation to stores and doctor appts. Our only problem has been with management. Prices discussed verbally, original contract “lost”, different price on bill… Everything did finally get worked out but several hours on the phone and time off work. PT, hairdresser, dining staff all are wonderful!

Essex House is an independent living senior adult facility. Three meals are provided each day in addition to all utilities and taxes paid as part of the rent. Assistance is available, mostly provided by independent providers at the prices they chose to charge. Some services, such as occupational and physical therapy, have space inside the facility to host their service. Personal care providers typically commute to the facility daily and make their own arrangements with residents. One bedroom and bath, two bedroom and baths, and studio apartments are available. Each room has a refrigerator but no stove. There is typically space available for a microwave oven depending upon its size. Weekly apartment cleaning is included and bed linen and towels can be provided and cleaned by house keeping staff. Trash is collected at 2 places on each floor, containers located in the 2 laundry rooms on each floor. There's insufficient space provided on this page for a proper review..

Need security when office staff closes up. Food could be more professional, I have to leave because only make [fee removed], rents could work with management, to many leaving. SS should Give us housing so we can live without using our savings each month.

The Essex House is great because there are staff that know their residents and they keep a watchful eye on the residents. So if your loved is mostly independent, BUT they need to have proper meals and to have a LITTLE supervision, Essex House is the place. We really like the availability of using washer and dryer without additional cost. Physical therapy available on the premises. The personnel that was there when we moved mom in were wonderful and interacted with the residents. Some of them have since retired or quit. Unfortunately their replacements are not as accommodating to the residents. Which in all fairness, it's a known fact that companies want the same quality with fewer staffing.

Everybody at Holiday Essex House is very helpful and caring. A special big thank you to manager [name removed] who goes out of his way to help our friend there. He’s just a call away, and always eager to help with any problem. Our friend is very happy there.

Response from Holiday Essex House
July 10, 2023We are thrilled to have you as part of the Holiday by Atria family! Thank you for sharing your kind words with us. It means the world to us and to our team!
I toured Holiday Essex House and it was great. It's a lovely community. The facility felt very welcoming. The cleanliness and friendliness were great. However, my loved one thought that the other facility that we toured seemed more homey than this one.
Was a pretty decent tour, had some things that impressed us but others that did not.
It's a good place to go, but in regards to the cost; everyone seems to have a different price, but for the same apartment. For example: what my mom is paying compared to other people who have the same size apartment can differ. Different residents get locked in at different times, and some people have a raised rent. They've increased the rent for one person by [price removed]. So my mom is concerned about having to move to a state facility or having to find a new place in general. Other than that concern, they're great people. Every time I've visited Essex they're super nice and they know me by name. They take the residents out on bus trips and outings; I just think they're really nice people. I would recommend Holiday Essex House to others.

I really enjoy everything about Essex House, I am very happy overall. The staff are very supportive, helpful, kind and I feel safe here. The meals are really good, I enjoy the flexibility of being able to eat in the dining room or staying in the apartment. I love the view out of my apartment. This community has given me a sense of independence again.

Response from Holiday Essex House
February 17, 2022Hi, Damian. Thanks for taking time to share your experience. If you'd like to talk more, please feel free to email us at Feedback@HolidaySeniorLiving.com.
Our family had an in person tour and we noticed pretty immediately there was a moldy smell to it, and it was dirty. It was just a mustier old facility.

December 7, 2021Hello Barbara, we appreciate you giving us the chance to improve by providing us with this feedback. We will take this feedback and look for ways to better our community for residents and team members. We are happy you felt that our community was nice! We hope for the opportunity to see you again, our team would be happy to work with you. Thank you
We chose Essex House because of the location for our family, it does allow my mom to still have a car on property, she also has an exterior door where she can go right out to her car. She has a 2 bedroom apartment and it it good size but it does not have a kitchen to cook meals. What they show on their website for meals is not what they actually serve, so I think that it needs improvement. The residents here have all been friendly. Overall my mom is very comfortable here and I would recommend them to others who are looking.

I've been here almost three years, and they have helped me through a lot. They're very compassionate about all the people that live here. Overall, everybody seems very nice. The activities are excellent, and the director has activities scheduled all the time. She's really active with her job and tries very hard to please everybody. I love my apartment. I live in a studio with a nice view of the back. I like that I can go out on my deck, sit and read, watch the deer that come out, and have a nice view. I also enjoy talking to my neighbors. Essex House is in a good location and very convenient to things nearby if you drive; otherwise they have a bus that takes us around.

Response from Holiday Essex House
August 12, 2021Hi there, thank you for taking the time to rate and review our community. We greatly appreciate your kind words about our staff! They do their very best to make each day special at Essex House.
Being out of town i have much comfort knowing my parents are being well cared for and are protected. The staff and their care services are fabulous, they not only are professional but it feels like a family there. They treat them like family and have just been so good to them. The activities are off the chart amazing, the food is not perfect but it does meet their needs. We appreciate that they are working on improving the meals when they hear feedback from the residents.

A Place for Mom has scored Holiday Essex House 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
