The staff at Highlands on the East Side are very hands on. There are always three or four nurses in the room with them. They don't just put you on a couch all day to watch tv. They interact with the patients and genuinely look like they care for the patients. The rooms are quite large. My mom loves the screened in porch and coloring.... Read more

It was nice, but I was shocked at the $4,000 one-time fee that was involved for all residents. It’s a beautiful facility and liked the location, but that was an extra fee that other facilities did not share.

We were very impressed with Highlands (it was my first choice for my mom, but ultimately her second; she wins). I really liked the care they took with their residents and that they have a beautiful yard and grounds. They also have a surprisingly good good male to female ratio (important if you’re helping to place a dad). Intake staff was extraordinarily kind with my family.

We're very pleased with how things have gone at Highlands on the East Side so far! It's a nice looking, clean place, and I feel like it is a good size, not too large. I felt like my loved one would get more personal attention here, the staff all seemed very friendly and like they knew the residents well. They also do a good job with the food!

I'm pretty happy with them. I am very impressed with the cleanliness, which is really big on my list. The staff is extremely friendly, they are all on a first name basis. Don't get me wrong nothing is perfect, we have had to ask from time to time to get something done. All it takes is one word and they are right on it. And they want to know, and they are very receptive to work with you, they are very nice about calling us if there is a change. They are really very nice, and the nurses too, are just wonderful. They have a beautiful area for sitting outside. They will personally go and invite the residents to go out. The food is good, they have a nice selection, and he likes the food.

We toured this community when we were looking into care options for a loved one. This was a nice enough looking community, it was very clean and well kept. The staff seemed very knowledgeable and caring, as well. The atmosphere just seemed a bit too clinical for our liking, and we didn't feel like our loved one would have been entirely comfortable here.

The food is very good. One suggestion is, I think it would be helpful to have a quarterly meeting with the families just to check in and get feedback. We looked at 3-4 places and the rooms are the most spacious of any we saw. They were able to accommodate two beds, where the others could not.

I think they are very attentive to the individual's needs. Of course every facility has a particular feel and it's a real personal decision which facility to go to. I think the facility should be matched to the person's personality so with that in mind I would say that Highlands pays a lot of attention to the person's needs. My cousin is in the memory care. He participates in the activities and he gets along well with the staff and has formed a close friendship with one of the residents there. All in all it's been very positive.

A Place for Mom has scored Highlands on the East Side 9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
