My father was at Friendship Village for 4 years. He started in Independent Living, then moved to Assisted Living, then moved to Memory Care. Independent Living was a good experience … good food, nice resident interactions, personal trainers. Assisted Living was an OK experience. Memory care was a poor experience. FV staff were understaffed and undertrained. I was so concerned that I put together a 50-line-item spreadsheet and had twice-monthly calls with FV to ensure accountability and follow-up. (IMHO, I should not have had to micro-manage FV like this). And the last 48 hours of my father’s life broke my heart in how it was handled by FV staff. Lots of detail here, but they did not handle it per my instructions nor my father’s wishes. There were some bright spots with FV employees who were exceptional (the trainer, the chaplain, some aides). One thing we did that made FV bearable was hiring augmented (from outside FV) staff to shore up for the undertrained FV employees.

I would tell others to move in. The whole environment is a great experience, it is like going to an all inclusive resort. Everything is at your fingertips. The residents and staff are friendly. My loved one likes bridge, cocktail hour, book club, and more are available for the residents to choose from.

My wife's mother lived here for 11 years. We never thought twice about moving here. Now after seven years, my wife and I say almost daily, this was the best decision we ever made!

My wife & I visited 12 Retirement Communities in Wisconsin & Minnesota. Friendship Village Bloomington (FVB) was clearly #1. We have lived here now for over 4 years. We love it & our experience is even better than we thought it would be. Both the staff & residents are extremely friendly & competent. The facility is first-rate & the programs offered & resources are awesome! This has been recognized recently by Masterpiece Living’s honoring FVB as a “Certified Center for Successful Aging”. This places FVB in the top 1% of retirement communities in the United States. FVB’s Programming addresses Physical (exercise & diet), Socialization, Intellectual stimulation & Spiritual (meaningful) activities that extend & maximize the time residents are able to live in “independent living”. That’s what retirement communities strive for! [Name removed] Resident, Friendship Village Bloomington

They charge for every little thing including wipes, yet they are usually understaffed most of the time. The staff are not motivated and there is usually a high turnover of staff through out the place. Dressing supplies among other things are usually in short supply and woe unto you if you get new treatment orders. Not the best place i think the management is keeping most of what the residents pay for supposedly 'great care'. The rehab is also double room and very tiny rooms for that matter.

They are doing much better. There was some miscommunication and mix up in the beginning, but that seems to be worked out now. They are a very nice facility, clean, friendly staff. It seems to be working out pretty well so far.

We have been most impressed at the care our dad has received at Friendship Village. The staff there appears to love their work. The care has been top notch. The care has also been wonderful. Entering Friendship Village is very accommodating and accessible. We can't say enough how happy we have been with the care at Friendship Village. Our dad also required 24 hour skilled nursing and Friendship Village is one of the few facilities that offers that care.
