June 19, 2024Ellen, thank you so much for your heartfelt review! We are thrilled to hear that you and your loved one have had such a positive experience at Forwood Manor. Our team strives to provide exceptional care and support, and we appreciate your kind words for all they do. We're delighted that our beautiful community has impressed you, and we are honored you are part of the Forwood Manor family.
Forwood Manor turned out to be a good transition for my friend. There are minimal safety features, fall alert and some pull-chains and a dining room for meals. It doesn't have the level of intrusiveness that assisted living has. The apartment is generously sized and we were thrilled with the patio door leading to the outside for the dog, they are pet friendly. Everyone has been very nice, we've had a few maintenance issues that could have been addressed more quickly, but other than that a good fit so far.

June 12, 2024Hi Kate, thank you for sharing your experience! We’re glad to hear your friend is enjoying their spacious apartment, our pet-friendly policy, and the respectful, independent atmosphere at Forwood Manor. It’s wonderful to know the transition has been positive overall and we appreciate your shout out for our friendly and welcoming team.
I had a really wonderful tour at Forwood Manor, led by [Name Removed], who is one of the most delightful people ever. He knew everyone’s name in the place and had a hello and a kind word for each of them, staff and residents alike. I’d been quite nervous and worried about what to expect, and I was put at ease immediately. I can tell [Name Removed] truly cares about the residents and their families. The best part is that he gave me hope that my mom could have a better quality of life, and that meant the world to me.

May 6, 2024Thank you for your review Delores. It was great to read that you had a wonderful tour, and that you found Forwood Manor to be such a beautiful and welcoming community. Please let us know if you have any follow-up questions, and we hope to see you again!
My mom is 93 and worked until she was 91. Candidly, she never wanted to live in a group setting, but a year ago she broke her hip and had to move to independent care in NJ. Since her four kids were now spread from NH to NC, I was the closest one, 2 hours away, in DE. Forwood came to mind because we are friends w [name removed]. [name removed] and the whole Forwood experience have been great. Moving here from NJ made sense: 1) it’s over $2k cheaper per month; 2) she’s closer to family (10 min); 3) space is close to double what she had; and 4) intellectually, it’s a great fit because she’s still reading novels, so the fact that 70% of the residents are in independent living means she has a lot of people there whose minds are still fully engaged. [name removed] has been great throughout the process. Listened and responded well to her needs and has been helping her transition and build a new network. She’s very happy there, which gives us peace of mind, and she’s just 10 min away.

April 26, 2024Thank you, Paul, for sharing your positive experience with Forwood Manor. We're delighted to hear that your mom has found a welcoming and enriching community with us. [name removed] are wonderful leaders! Everyone is kind, caring, friendly and there to help. My mother recently went through a health crisis and [name removed] helped my family navigate getting my mother into their assisted living program. It was painless! The last thing you want to worry about is the details when you are struggling with a loved one’s health. [name removed] took care of the details of mom’s new living situation while my family took care of mom. I cannot say enough about this wonderful facility!!! I love Forwood Manor! Thank you, everyone, for all that you do!!!!

April 26, 2024You are most welcome Kim. We're honored to have been able to assist your family during a challenging time. Providing compassionate care and support is at the heart of what we do. Thank you for choosing Forwood Manor, and we're here for you every step of the way.
I would say that the balance between independence and care is just what she needed being mobile. She had the option to be very social or private as she chose- she was able to manage her own medication and self care while they provided meals housekeeping security and risk-free living. They also provide car services and weekly shopping trips for the residents. She had a great experience here at Forwood Manor.

April 24, 2023Thanks for your feedback Karen. We are thrilled to hear that our community was able to provide the perfect balance of independence and care for your loved one. Our team takes pride in offering a variety of services and amenities to ensure our residents feel comfortable and secure -- and are honored that you think of Forwood Manor as a magnificent choice for independent living!
Our family had an in person tour and the place is very nice but an older building. If your loved one was going to be living there you had to get a landline because cell phones did not work.
Response from Forwood Manor
November 10, 2021Kathy, thanks for touring our community and for your feedback. While our community may be a bit more established we have vibrant, young-at-heart residents and dynamic team members. Our residents love congregating around the fireplace and grand piano, eating in the exquisite dining room, soaking up the sun in the stunning courtyard, and walking through our 13-acre sanctuary. We'd be happy to introduce you to some of our residents who can tell you about life at Forwood Manor. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Our family had a virtual experience and it was a good experience. The team we worked with gave great information, it was down to this community and one other, but our loved one just liked the rooms at the other community more.

July 16, 2021We're glad you had a good virtual tour and had all your questions answered. We'd love to have you visit with us in-person so you can get the feel for the great “vibe” of our community. Please give us a call if you are interested as we'd enjoy meeting you in person!
I needed a location that would allow my service dog and 2 emotional support dogs. When I signed my 2 month lease I stated several time I had my three dogs and was reassured that wouldn’t be a problem. But in the dining area they didn’t want my service dog there. I had to tell them the law. Socialization, activities none. Maintenance never helped with my carpet. I had a fall and spent several days in the hospital. Upon return I spend tine in the medical unit. There I witnessed staff belittling 2 residents and treating me like a leaper. They required I take a COVID test, but 2 months I am still waiting. And I’m waiting for my COVID injection. And was told I had to get rid of my dogs. I came because I was told I could have my three dogs. Staff that delivers my meals are ok if you like your drinks spilled on the tray. Staff that deliver the mail are friendly. Can’t get involved in any activities. I came so I could keep my 3 dogs I love the location but,

I would not recommend this ‘5 star’ community. Highly disappointed for the incredible amount of money my father spends every month. My father has been at Forwood for 3 months, he moved here after my mother died. He was very lonely and we thought this would be a great way for him to meet people. Covid is still going on and this facility does nothing to help the seniors stay active and provides NOTHING for to do to interact safely on a daily basis. After a storm over a month ago, the front entrance is still in disarray and no work has been completed to fix the entire front entrance and adjacent meeting area for guests ‘who are not allowed to visit’. My father wants to move and we are looking. You pay a 4000 dollar one time fee....you get nothing for this! Do not place your loved ones here...it is all a lie to get your money!

September 30, 2020I am the Executive Director and would like to speak with you about your comments. When the COVID-19 crisis started and we curtailed many of our activities we understood these restrictions would result in some hardship for residents and their families, but took these steps to safeguard our entire community. Our team members have been supplementing individual activities and programming to try to keep all our residents engaged and from feeling isolated, and also have made counselors available to residents who may especially feel affected by COVID-19. As you know, we did sustain storm related damage last month but are working hard to get that repaired as soon as we can and hope it is behind us within the next month. In the meantime we continue to offer Sunshine visits 7 days per week by appointment and are actively planning for small group activities once the repairs have been completed. Please contact me at the community at your earliest convenience so we may discuss this in further detail.
While my in-person tour was restricted due to Covid-19, [name removed] was most helpful in describing the apartment layout along with detail of the unit paint/carpet scheme. It would appear that Forwood Manor management has instituted very strict safety requirements (gowns, masks, gloves, face shield), which is a sign of their concern for the safety of residents and employees. [name removed] is a wealth of knowledge about the facility and the management company. I saw residents walking outside on the property wearing appropriate safety masks. From the outside of the building, I saw that the apartment I was considering has 2 big bay windows, which look ideal for plants. Forwood Manor appears to be a nice place to live.

We chose this community because of the activities provided and the food, but both have been impacted because of the virus. The room sizes are nice, my mother has two nice walk in closets. She ate here once before the shutdown and they served restaurant style. Now because of COVID, they deliver the food to her room. My favorite part about the community so far has been that they really try to create a community environment. They had a parade of antique cars come by and the staff did Christmas in July carols in the hallway. They are making an effort during the restrictions. I would recommend Forwood Manor.

My mother has been in Forwood Manor for over 5 years, first in Independent Living and now in Assisted Living. The best thing about Fowood is the staff. My mother absolutely loves them, so of course I do too. I call them her Forwood Angels! Back when I could visit in person I enjoyed meeting the nurses and managers -- they are such caring people, and getting to know them gave me full confidence that mom was in the best of hands. I should add that Mom also LOVES the food. Lots of choices. And when she's too tired to go to the dining room for breakfast they bring it to her -- happily! During the Covid-19 pandemic I have kept in close touch with management and they have been meticulous in keeping mom safe. Of course it's sad that I can't visit her now, but at least I know she's safe and happy, and Forwood has facilitated zoom calls so that we can still see each other from afar. Thank you Forwood Manor for giving me piece of mind!

We have been touring communities in the Wilmington area for our Mom. This community is very nice, get appeal when walking up to the main entrance, the elderly have porches on the first floor. (Loved it). Friendly front desk person and a great room just off the main lobby. The elderly had an entertainer preforming and they were enjoying it. Only a couple of down falls for this community, the front hallways to get to the assisted living or any main common areas (like dinning room, the front lobby great room, activities room) are long and dark (need to invest in better lighting). The carpets are dated and very dark, which doesn't help with the lighting of the hallways. The independent living very beautiful, but they need to make improve the assisted living to the standards of the independent living. The assisted living looks like a step-sister and has not had any attention to it. Apartments in the assisted living looked more like a converted nursing home room. Nothing worth mentioning. Prices were a little high, for not a great assisted living. Not a place for Mom.

excellent -- [name removed] was very good about explaining the community. We like the fact that it is a CCRS community. Forwood was clean with many places to sit alone or with people when you want too. Staff seems to intermingle with tenants. Room outside to sit and enjoy the nice weather. Walking path nearby. Very impressed with site.

A Place for Mom has scored Forwood Manor 9.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
