Deterioration Since ACTS Takeover

Fairhaven has always had its issues, but since ACTS has taken over, thing have gotten worse. They have curtailed or eliminated paid services like medical transportation that some residents have relied on for over 10 years. They are investing $[removed] in superficial renovations to attract prospects, but the underlying infrastructure is falling apart. Also, Assisted Living rooms are very small and dreary, and no one wants to move there even if the they need more care. Instead, they would prefer to move out if they can afford it.

Poor leadership!

My relatives enjoyed living at Fairhaven but after ACTS took over the change to their in home nursing care was extremely disappointing and unreliable. In order to receive better quality in home care my relative chose to move out of Fairhaven. Their apartment was in exceptional condition when we moved everything out but it has been many months now and ACTS doesn't appear to be making an effort to find someone to take the apartment. We recently had a close friend whose relative visited the community to see what independent living apartments were available and the ACTS sales person did not tell them about my relatives apartment which is available. The executive director won't return calls or emails so it is quite frustrating. I have another relative who lives in an independent living apartment at Charlestown in Catonsville. When my relative had an issue the Charlestown executive director was quick to communicate with me and worked with my family to help resolve the matter. The leadership at Charlestown is far better than the leadership at the ACTS community in Sykesville. Due to the ACTS executive directors lack of communication and their lack of effort in marketing my relatives independent living apartment I feel it is necessary to hire an attorney!

Has everything

My grandmother lived at fairhaven for many years and loved it. She enjoyed all the activities going on there including bridge group, concerts, the hair salon, library, pool and of course meals with friends. When she became more ill and I was there by her side the staff comforted me as well as made sure she was comfortable. Her cottage was homey and made her feel independent while still getting the care she needed. I would recommend this place for others.

Best ever!

My parents lived at Fairhaven and loved it. The residents are active, smart, and educated. As a result the activities are much better than frequently found in assisted living communities. My folks were welcomed warmly and quickly became part of the community. They loved taking walks on the nature trails and tending flowers by their little patio. They had a one bedroom cottage with den that was light and airy with a pretty view. Food was excellent, too. Highly recommended for anyone who likes a less urban setting. Surrounding countryside is beautiful.

Fairhaven offers Studio, 1 Bedroom and 2 Bedrooms. Learn more.

A Place for Mom has scored Fairhaven 2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
