June 25, 2024I like the title "Kindness is King". The world has so much stress and turmoil we make it a point and stress kindness and making an effort to smile and bring joy to the hearts of families. Thank you for your review. We share every review with all staff so everyone understands how their job effects the residents, families, and the community.
I would definitely recommend Desert View Senior Living to others. Overall, it was a good experience. I would say the least of these was the food, but it wasn't horrible. The communication with the family was great, and they were always friendly to us and of course knew us by name. The move in process was easy. Another con would be the laundering situation. They lost some of dad's clothes and usually he was wearing someone else's, but it was a non issue for us. We would just recommend that they mark all the clothes well and maybe not bring expensive clothes there.

May 31, 2024Thank you for the valuable feedback. Food and memory care laundry in a Memory Care unit has been a topic of conversation for the 15years I have represented communities. Desert View is no exception to the issue. It's so difficult to please so many tastebuds and special diets and we appreciate your input. It's interesting to note 50% eat everything, 30 Percent take certain medications that effect taste and flavor or must be on bland diets due to hypertension just do their best, and the other residents tend to like certain things and dislike others. A Dietician oversee the menus and nutrition. Everything is recommended to cook with little to no salt or sugar for diabetics. and high blood pressure. Laundry....you nailed it. No excuses. With 2 industrial machines, once washed and dried, they do their best to sort for each person. It's been an issue in every community I've been associated with. I recommend labeling with an indelible marker, all clothing and personal belongings by last name to help them sort clothing to make sure they end up in the right dresser. We appreciate you! Thanks!!
Ask specific questions about what to bring and what NOT to bring based on the loved ones condition. NB: I am specifically answering about the Memory Care area of Desert View. What I really liked about the facility was: The friendliness, the outdoor garden area with grass, the activities for assisted living, spacious hallways, the "mail room" with a TV, books and puzzles and the location.

May 20, 2024Thank you for the observation and helpful tip on ways we can elevate our communication to families prior to move-in. I realized the pre-move checklist needs improvement and have started to revise with more details to help families navigate the process more easily. Thank you for pointing this out. We continue to improve with the input from our family partners and agencies.
What has made Desert View Senior Living such a good experience so far is definitely the friendliness of the staff. Based on the experience we have had so far, we have already recommended this community to others, and will continue to do so.

May 16, 2024Thank you. A happy staff equates to better quality of services. Our goal is to create smiles to make Desert View a happy place to live. This creates an amazing environment to live in.
My Dad had so many complaints: I don't think the facility had adequate staff to address his issues. He wasn't assisted properly. We paid [fee removed] just to get him in; also the monthly fee of over [fee removed] . Within one month he contracted COVID there and died on [date removed] alone. I haven't addressed it but I feel they should return the [fee removed] . He had to be tested for COVID prior to being accepted into the program and died one month and a day later by being exposed and contracted COVID!

May 8, 2024Words can never bring back a loved one. Our sincere heartfelt condolences. COVID remains a threat in every community nationally. 2022 was the last year that required COVID testing before residing in a community. Licensed communities are mandated to report COVID and any infectious disease. Desert View, fighting this new unknown virus had one of the lowest number of fatalities in Las Vegas as the result of COVID. Staffing meets or exceeds the State guidelines, but it will never be enough aside from one-on -one care. Desert View maintains the State of Nevada "A" grading, the highest grade possible as we consistently maintain a 98% care and compliance standard exceeding the industry average of low 90's. 2022 was the last year that required COVID testing before residing in a community, a practice we hope remains in the past.
Desert View Senior Living and Uplift Hospice sets the high standard in Las Vegas. Everywhere else is a distant second. I placed a family member there in Dec 2023 after touring 10 facilities since 2016 in anticipation of ultimate placement once this person could no longer live by themselves. I knew the tangible and intangible factors I was seeking. My expectations were exceeded. As a career naval officer, I have a good sense for teams where winning is a habit, or in this context outstanding, compassionate care is the norm. Charlie, a man of action and sincerity made the transition seamless. Every single member from Mindy at the front desk to executives like [name removed], [name removed], the Maintenance Chief to all the wonderful medical technicians impressed me as total professionals. I feel especially qualified to give this review as my family member rapidly declined and I was there 1-2Xs/day for 2 months. I warmed by the care my mother and other residents received.

January 8, 2024Thank you for submitting your review. I wish I could say we are perfect but there isn't a perfect community. Your input goes a long way into citing weaknesses that we can make strengths. For insurance and pharmacy, it's a courtesy to ask if a resident would consider using an in-house pharmacy or health care agency if the current provider is not responsive to requests from the Wellness Team as our expectations from outside agencies is very high. I do recommend keeping your current provider if you are comfortable retaining them as it's your privilege.
Many of the staff members have been there for several years. When the resident passed, the staff took it very hard. The first thing I noticed was no urine smell. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, especially in Memory Care. The chef is very good, she does both Assisted Living and Memory Care. I would recommend them to others. I believe, right now, there is a three month wait.

December 20, 2023Thank you. Memory Care is one if the hardest Healthcare careers below skilled nursing. It requires passion, love, patience, and skill to care for someone's loved one. It,s an honor to serve you. .
From the first visit to Desert View Senior Living to the first day of move in it has been nothing but pure pleasure to be around and now in this community. ALL the staff and I mean ALL the STAFF go above and beyond for each a every one of the residents living at Desert View Senior Living. November 30, 2023Thank you, Debra. It's very humbling to see this review as we know that there is always something we can do to improve as time goes by. We share every review with the staff and share in the responsibility of managing our community as individual owners in each department. It's how we have created such a caring environment unmatched by communities in Vegas. Mom is delightful and it's an honor to serve our veteran's widows. Welcome to the family! We'll continue to strive to meet your expectations.
My mother is very happy there, she feels very well taken care of, they keep the place very clean, the food is very good, and there are activities scheduled during the day. They provide housekeeping and laundry service.

If family is active in care of loved ones, more attention will be paid to that person. Staff is ready to help if possible. Desert View is older than other assistant living residences I've seen, but sufficient enough to serve the needs of the people living there. My brother-in-law has hospice services and, therefore, he gets 3 days of care from their CNA's. Most others on his floor are much more independent. My brother-in-law eats mechanical food in his room, but the formal dining room has a generous menu for all. The aides respond to calls from residents within 10 to 15 minutes. My main concern is cleanliness which I gave a 3.

November 6, 2023Your input is very helpful. We do appreciate families that use PCA's (Personal Care Attendants) and Home Health as they add additional care that complements our care staff service. Hospice companies are also welcome as they provide a level of care covered under Medicare. We work side by side with reputable health care companies to assist the resident providing them a combined level of care that ensures the best care possible.
Sign up you can't find a better place. I would recommend to others. I picked this community because [name removed] sold me on the place.

September 28, 2023Thanks!! It's a very nice compliment and we are honored to be presented as a choice by families who have visited several communities while searching for a home fro their loved one.
Positive notes: People and staff are extremely friendly. The residents always have something to do. (Many options to keep you busy.) The residents all seem to be happy. The staff are very helpful and friendly to the guests that come and visit. Not so positve notes: The food is bland. Hot showers are hit and miss. Mostly cold showers.

July 31, 2023Thank you Tara, We appreciate your observations so that we can continue to strive to be the best. DESERT VIEW IS WELL KNOWN FOR ITY'S FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE with residents and staff who have created a culture that feels like an extension of home. For dining, a key side note is that the Chefs and cooks follow the recommendation of a certified Nutritionist to accommodate hypertension, high blood pressure, and diabetics which is prevalent at this stage in life. This includes low sodium usage and sugar free substitutes when possible. On a good note, the residents do have salt, pepper, hot sauce, and ketchup plus 3 choices of sugar at their tables to help add flavor when needed. It's a delicate balance between flavor and health.
Everyone is so friendly to the residents but also to everyone that walks in the door- always a hello and how are you! They quickly learned my moms name and made her feel wanted.

July 10, 2023It's been a journey but she finally made it and we are so happy she's in our family of residents! I love the room color she painted too! Thanks for the amazing review!
Overall experience was good until my loved one was forced to move because they increased rent. The facility always looks clean but the cleaning of the apartments was hit and miss mostly miss. My loved one's apartment wasn't cleaned the way I was told they would and they were under staffed for housekeeping. Everyone was always friendly. The care rate increased. The staff spent a lot of time on making sure the residents have a good time during special events. One of the staff members gave me the heads up on the place my loved one moved to. My loved one ate tv dinners a lot in their room because so often the community didn't have what my loved one liked and they cut corners on meals when food prices went up so high. My loved one didn't participate in everything because they are not normally a joiner, but what they did my loved one enjoyed. I thought the value for the money was good when my loved one moved in. But with the price increases and housekeeping issues it's certainly not as good. Even with the issues Desert View has my loved one wanted to stay because they made friends. However, when they wanted to downsize so the could stay the community said they had 15 people ahead of my loved one waiting to move in. I thought this was wrong.

June 13, 2023Thank you for your review. I'm happy your loved one really loved the community. The managers take critiques seriously and they are addressed daily with each department head in a team meeting with the goal of accountability. In assisted living, apartments are provided light cleaning once a week which includes floors, bathrooms and dusting. Housekeepers are expected to be trusted to do their jobs. If they tend to be less than great, residents are instructed to notify their managers so we can correct the situation promptly. Dining offers a cook to order breakfast, lunch and dinner specials that don't repeat monthly in addition to alternative anytime menu with over 20 items to choose from including 5 different heart healthy salads and other alternate meal choices. Whether needing to downsize budget or a even desire to move up to a larger apartment, we do prioritize the resident at the top of waitlists. Unfortunately, due to very low resident move-outs., it could average 2-4 months for an opening even at the top of the list. For larger apartments, it could take up to 6 months or longer. I'm sorry we were unable to meet your needs for your situation. Usually financial hardship, celestial discharges or a need for long term healthcare in a nursing facility are the main reasons we have openings. Our residents are very happy and love each other and the culture in our community. They just don't move out often. It's why Desert View tends to have a waitlist year round.
I am enjoying being a resident at Desert View Senior Living. I've met many people and was openly welcomed. The facility is well maintained. My room is cleaned weekly and trash emptied daily. The staff are very friendly. Even those with whom I don't have much direct contact always greet me and ask how I am doing. I don't need medical assistance but know it is available if I do. The food is tasty and varies. Like being in college though, all meals are not everybody's favorites. A weekly menu is provided with specials for lunch and dinner. If a resident doesn't like the special, an ongoing alternate menu is available. The servers are pleasant and know the residents by name. There are activities each day which are listed on a monthly calendar. Changes are put on a daily update available at the front desk. Often outside entertainment is offered. For the services provided that I could no longer do because of a health issue which brought me here (personal laundry done, room cleaned including sheets washed and bed made, food prepared and cleaned up), the value for cost is excellent. I would rate all categories as 5.

May 26, 2023It makes the team very happy to hear we are all meeting your expectations. We are always reminding the team that we are lucky to be able to serve our seniors. We work in their home and residents deserve the dignity of being called by name respectfully. It's a culture we have worked hard to establish the past 7 years. Every department understand our mission. Residents are all our family, our parents, and you are extended family....and that's why we always live by our mission "Let our family be a part of yours". It brings us great joy knowing we are making our seniors happy in their golden years. Thank you.
We toured Desert View Senior Living and it was good. The facility had a delightful, active atmosphere. However, we prefer smaller more intimate spaces for Memory Care residents.
Response from Desert View Senior Living
April 10, 2023Thank you! The atmosphere is great as you mentioned. There are 14 shared units and 28 total residents that utilize the common living room. It's a social environment for the most part with different levels of participation depending on how advanced their diagnosis is. Group homes can be a good match for Memory Care residents who require a smaller more quiet environment that isn't as active. Usually licensed for 1-6 residents or up to 10 in some cases they are good programs for less active residents with memory care needs. I know you'll find the perfect Memory Care match but if it doesn't meet your expectations we'll always be here for you.
I toured Desert View Senior Living and the tour itself was great. The staff was very friendly. However, the facility looked run down and seemed kind of depressing. The individual resident units looked run down, also. It smelled clean, but the overall look and feel was just run down. Not a good fit for my loved one.
Response from Desert View Senior Living
March 24, 2023Thank you TM. We purchased the community 6 years ago and it's still a work in progress. The community is a little over 26 years old and is certainly aging gracefully. While it's not a shiny new penny, it has character unlike most new communities. The community is constantly going through updating and the next phase is the furniture and the outdoor area. It's well kept and clean with great bones and no smells. The care team is exceptional, the residents are happy, and the waitlist is generally 2 months on the average year round, signs of a great community. As the residents say " It feels like home" .
I loved this place, they helped my dad through every step of the way to fill out VA benefits and questions he had as a VA . They allowed him his beloved dog patty to be with him. He loved the staff!! I would recommend this place!

February 21, 2023[name removed] will be remembered at Desert View for being the kindest man we've ever known! It was such an honor to be able to help him get his VA benefit. The fondest memory we'll have was when he told the dining room servers "A pinch of salt in coffee takes any bitterness away." He always had his coffee, ride his scooter outside the front entrance in the morning and would greet us at the front door as we arrived for the day. Thank you for the privilege of serving your dad.
I am very pleased we placed my dad at Desert View. The staff is wonderful and they keep me notified of any situations. The staff are all very caring. I would definitely recommend them.

February 21, 2023Thank you for the review and recommendation. Desert View has had a reputation for almost 18 years as the community that consistently receives 4.5-5 star reviews. Many of the staff have been on our team for that long. It's the biggest factor on why our reputation is so respected. Care is the number one reason residents move into Assisted Living.
