I have great feedback about Delamere Woods. It is warm and friendly the minute you walk into the community. They offer a lot more amenities than the other communities as well. There is a nice dining room and it has someone in charge of it. They seat everyone who comes in, and mix it around every day. The bedrooms are a good size. They do not do any type of serious nursing care, more like vitals and simple small nursing care. There is someone that comes in every week to clean the property. They have a laundry service that helps you with your laundry. Also, another great thing is since there are a lot of grocery stores around, they have a guy who takes you and drives you back to the community. Once they get back to the community, he puts the resident's room number on all of their groceries and personally delivers them to the room. They have a low maintenance fee which includes all utilities so she only has to worry about her phone bill and one other bill. They have great amenities such as a card room, puzzle that goes on for everyone to do and great activities for the residents to socialize. Monday through Friday they serve dinner and have about 3 choices every night to choose from. If you do not like the option for the night, they always have chicken and fish available. Every meal is $9, but is worth it. The community helps encourage people to socialize with each other. Of all the places I have toured, it is truly the biggest bang for your buck. Another important factor of the Delamere Woods community is that it is pet friendly. On the 2nd and 3rd floor, they have balconies attached to the rooms which are big enough for furniture, which is nice. They have parking for everyone and also a hairdresser that comes in. Another great activity is the gardens outside. It is open to all the residents to come in and plant stuff. It is a vegetable and flower garden. I asked if there have been any cases of break ins, and they said no, which is reassuring. It is located off of a main drag, but is so far back that you cannot hear the traffic or anything. It is quiet and peaceful.

Mom has lived at Delamere Woods for over a year now. The office staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The director is outstanding and looks out after everyone. Some activities are available but they are not well attended. Cleaning staff does only a very light cleaning. Mom pays for someone outside to come in occasionally to do a more through cleaning job. The building was built in the 1980's and is showing it's age. They are slowly making repairs but common areas and hallways need cleaning and repair. I have never seen anyone vacuum the hallway carpets and they are very dirty. The AC needs to be replaced. AC works better at the moment, but every year it has trouble at start-up. But, compared to other places we looked at, this was a much better value. Units are larger than most we looked at and include a small, but full kitchen. Everything except cable and phone are included in the monthly fee with an option to rent or buy. Optional dinner offered in nice common dining room 5 nights a week. Menu posted ahead of time so she can choose if she wants to eat there for an additional fee ($8.50) or she can cook in her unit. Food is very good, but I think sometimes the menu is too high end fancy for most old people's taste. Many of the other places we looked at had very regimented eating times and it was not optional, included in your fees so you paid for it even when you missed it. Mom did not want to plan he life around meal times so this was a major factor in the decision to move here. Mom very much likes this option because she doesn't eat a lot for breakfast and lunch anyway. Most of the people who live here are very nice and it is very quiet. We never hear the neighbors. The outside doors are always locked and they closely watch who comes in so we feel mom is safe. Each unit has emergency pull cords in the bath and bed rooms and the staff responds instantly if pulled. No health serviced are offered here, but fee is not as high as places that do offer these services. Overall, I would say this is a very nice place to live and the manager and office staff are very good. It just needs more renovations due to age of building and the cleaning could be more thorough. Cost below is for monthly fees only assuming unit is purchased. Rental option is additional.
