Decatur House is a very nice place. They took very good care of my Mom while she was there. It was decorated like a Bed & Breakfast. I would highly recommend it.

I would highly recommend the community to others for their loved ones. This has been an amazing experience for our loved one and family. The staff is very personable, friendly, and caring towards the residents. The resident count is around 38 at the max. The staff communication with the family is great and they are willing to answer any of our questions. They have a very tenured staff, with staff members being there upwards of 20 years.

We have been super pleased with our experience at Decatur House. The facility itself is beautiful. It is not like some other places I visited that look more like apartment buildings - it is like she is living in a big colonial home and she has an apartment within that home. It is expensive but worth every penny because she is getting everything that they promised that she would get in the beginning. I would absolutely recommend this facility as long as it fits your needs.

Very nice at first meetings. Lots of promises. Do not send you loved one if they have health issues or any level of dementia. Not equatorial handle. Never a night nurse. Food average. They call frequently with situations they can’t handle. Disruptive to elderly person’s family. Family operated and huge lack of communication. Sometimes they use chef to distribute medications. Always late with meds. Broken promises. Boring for clients.

I would recommend the community to others for their loved ones. It is a smaller and homey community. The community looks like a bed and breakfast. The staff are always available to speak to anytime I call. An hour of care, apartment, laundry, changing of linens, housekeeping, utilities (with the exception of a land line which is extra), all the meals, and activities are included in the monthly fee. If you loved one needs additional care time, there would be an additional fee. The apartment has a kitchenette that includes a mini fridge and a sink. There are different size apartments.

Very clean and seemed well maintained overall. Mr. Anderson and Ms. Austen gave a warm and complete presentation. The intimate number of residents is probably tailor made for long time Sandwich residents. However, our decision not to apply is based in part by our perception that Mom needs a larger community. The deposit requirement was a bit daunting as well.

A Place for Mom has scored Decatur House Assisted Living Residence 8.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
