My experience was actually quite stressful and overwhelming in the beginning . For me, it was hard to figure out the process but then everything started to fall into place. Since then, and in the long run, it has been a positive experience for both me and my loved one! What I was most concerned about was staff turnover but that has not happened. Beyond that, the staff and that includes everyone we see, is engaged, encouraging and there for my loved one. It's a happy, contented close community.... Read more

If your loved one is mostly independent this is a good community for your loved one. If there is a lot of intensive care that is needed then this would not be the place for your loved one. When the staff are present it is okay but they have a very bad staffing issue at the time that is making things difficult. The more care that is needed the less I would be to recommend this community.

This is the first time I have ever been in assisted living. Everybody is respectful. The food is excellent. The staff is pleasant. The dining room does a great job. My room has been taken care of by housekeeping. I love the physical therapy.

November 13, 2021Peggy A, thank you for your kind words and this wonderful review!
Our In-person tour was wonderful. I really liked the woman who showed us around. The location was convenient for our family. The deciding factor was it was just too small. The bathroom was teeny tiny. At another place, we could get 100 square feet more with a kitchenette included for same price. I felt like our loved one just needed more living space and a kitchenette to make it feel more like a home. At Chesapeake Place, the location was great, and the staff was great. The people we met were very friendly. And of course during Covid, everybody was trying to get people in. I think Atria was offering a couple of months free at the time. It was just too small. If your loved one wasn’t moving directly from a house, but was moving from say one facility to another, it would probably be fine. But for someone just coming from their own home, it was like moving into a bedroom and just wasn't going to work, especially since she didn't want to move to assisted living in the first place.

December 30, 2021Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope you have a great day!
The management is not concerned about the loving, caring, sensitivity toward the tenants, as evidenced by the way the tenants are treated by the staff. They treat them very poorly. They talk down to my loved one. They won't respond to critical needs. And they force her to stay in bed more hours of the day and put her to bed very early so they don't have to fool with her. I feel that they're trying to keep things clean, but I think at the end of the day it's just a paycheck for those people, that it's not something they feel is completely necessary. Bottom line is, if the staff don't live in cleanliness, how are they going to know what cleanliness is?

We removed my mom due to lack of care, medicine mismanagement, after pointing out lack of care the staff would not speak to us. They continue to order medicine from their pharmacy without using what we provide . Her room was constantly hot with no air movement and caused foul smells . Evening staff is so short they are unable to give care to all of the residents in the building. Residents wander into other rooms ,when I questioned staff about this, they said they know and they cant stop her. Staff is not required to make rounds due to the assisted living status , so many times we had to go get mom something to drink or snack on . The facility smelled bad and furniture was old and dirty needing replacement. The carpet is stained and stinks as well. The price we pay per month the company should correct these issues. Finally when we removed her a staff member said she was happy for us that we found a better place that our mom deserved to be cared for.

November 13, 2021Your review is very concerning to us. We would appreciate if you would contact our community by calling (757) 900-9887 to speak with our Executive Director about your recent experience.
I visited this facility along with several others. This facility outdated. The residents were sitting in the lobby bored. It was very quiet, no activities at all . Staff seemed unfriendly when we approached them It took several attempts to find anyone that could help finally someone that identified herself as the nurse in charge came .We asked a few medical questions regarding our father to see if they could accommodate him , then she told us she’s not a nurse. She’s just in charge , but assured me she had been there over a decade and they can handle his issues. The cost is equivalent to surrounding facilities. But the difference is the other facilities have a nurse, Activites and are modern. We then saw the small building . It was not kept up at all. The rooms were small and very outdated. It was terrible . The few residents we saw were sitting at a table . We saw one staff member the whole time we were there. The building itself was falling apart. And was extremely dirty .

I made the mistake of doing a walk In for a tour. There is no one at the desk. I waited for about 15 minutes before I walked in to find someone. Staff told me to come back because they don’t do that. Staff also told me I am not supposed to just walk right in. I tried to explain that I had been standing there and no one came out but she did not want to speak with me regarding this. I never in my life experienced anything like that. They are extremely rude . I will not be returning as I was told to do. The facilities overall appearance is dirty and dated. The residents were just roaming about. No activities were going on from what we saw. There was a man in a wheelchair that looked extremely soiled, we saw a few residents just sitting in the lobby. The lighting is poor at best in the hallway. I’m sure it helps to cover the dirt. I only saw 1 employee the whole time we were there.

November 13, 2021Hi Anonymous, we are very happy to have provided you with such a positive experience!
They did as good as they could with all of the covid restrictions in place and the staff members were friendly and nice. It just made me angry that we could not go inside and visit with my mom, we had to visit through a glass window. Overall I would recommend to others looking.

November 13, 2021Hello, thank you for your positive review, we are grateful to see that you feel this way! We strive to provide excellent care and service to our residents and their families at Chesapeake Place Senior Living. Thank you again, we hope you have a wonderful day!
I am able to go stand at her window and talk to her that way, but we have not been allowed inside the facility since she went in here but they are talking about in person visits soon. They have been taking very good care of her with what she needs and she seems to be content. Communication has not been the best, it is hard to get a hold of people on the phone and it is hard finding out what is going on and how she is. I think they need a telephone in the memory care center to where we can get a hold of someone. They have an fantastic activity director and she has been my main point of contact and she is wonderful. They have been recently bought out by another company and April 1st is when the new ownership takes place so we will see what happens.

Our loved ones receiving wonderful care while they were there, and just from speaking with them over the phone they said they cleanliness of the place was amazing, they had no complaints about that or the location at all. Due to covid they completely shut down the activities, and the food had to be delivered to their rooms so by the time it would get to them it sometimes was cold. However, overall the were very happy with the community and the value.

A Place for Mom has scored Chesapeake Place Senior Living 9.7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
