The staff was amazing. They helped at each phase and they were patient and kind. We couldn't have asked for better staff. Overall, the facility was great. I am pleased with the community. I would put my loved one here again. This is a good place. My loved one is getting interaction with the staff, and other residents. I've seen residents make friends within the community. The community is good at helping the residents feel like they are doing something to help them. The community is secure and the residents do have the option to be in the gated part of the community whenever they want to.

We felt very good about the cleanliness of the community. The activities director was fantastic, everything that was offered to the residents was great. The weekday staff were great, but the weekend staff were poorly trained to handle the end stages of Alzheimer's.

Response from Brookdale Winter Haven MC
April 22, 2022Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. By giving us your feedback, you are helping us to understand what we do well and what we could focus on improving. Please be assured your feedback will be reviewed and used to help better serve our residents and their families.
I would tell others that the staff seems to be attentive and to genuinely care about the residents. There are times that some of the staff can be rushed and short with responses. We still need to make an appointment to visit our loved one, it would be nice to just go and see our loved one.

It's important for family members to follow up and be at the facility from time to time. I feel like the facility has had a hard time getting and keeping enough staff, so there have been a few instances where my loved one's specific needs were not met. I got her a special wheelchair due to a serious blood clot issue, which requires that her legs be elevated. A couple of times her legs weren't elevated, and one time the leg supports had been removed from the wheelchair and weren't found until a day or two later. I understand that they're short-staffed and things happen, but this was a critical health issue. I let them know my concerns, and to my knowledge that hasn't happened again. So they responded appropriately to the concerns I raised. Also, know that their strong point is not paperwork. If you want copies of any paperwork, be sure to insist you get them at the point that documents are generated. I've had to ask for documents several times and have still not received them. I've also had some billing issues related to automatic debit. They responded appropriately by waiving late fees, but months later the automatic debit still wasn't going through. I understand they've understaffed and burdened, but it's been frustrating spending the time on the phone to resolve. I think they really do care about their residents, and everyone that I have spoken to has always been pleasant and positive. And that goes a long way when dealing with the challenges of memory care residents. I've always found the staff to be friendly, upbeat, and caring.

The staff is just babysitting and doesn't really care about the residence. The communication was not and they did not keep us update and were not good at returning calls. I would not recommend this community to others.

Response from Brookdale Winter Haven MC
April 7, 2021We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and are sorry to hear Brookdale Winter Haven did not meet your expectations. Our staff is committed to providing the highest-quality service and care for each resident and family, and we will share your feedback with our management team.
We chose Brookdale Winter Haven due to the compassion that the staff showed us. After speaking with the nurses and administrator, I felt like it was going to be a great place for my grandmother. They go above and beyond for their residents here and treat them like family. They are willing to work with each individuals needs since every dementia patient is not the same. I would recommend to others looking.

Due to the covid restrictions we are not really able to get inside and see the community, but the staff members are very friendly and when it comes to the care services we do believe they are doing the best that they can. When we were able to visit the meals did seem to be okay, and they will call us to tell us our loved one is having fun with whatever they are doing that day. We do get pictures of our loved one coloring and watching movies.

The community has always treated the resident and myself with dignity. They take care of the residents, and add purpose to the resident as well. I've already recommended this community to others.

They are a good place. They are cost effective. The do a good job taking care of the resident and the family. When hospice comes in they do a poor job with communication to the family. The food was good. Layout of community and room sizes are great. We had a good experience up until hospice came in and then at that point they never let me know what was going on with my mom.

My dad has been at Brookdale just over a month and has adjusted very well. The staff is very attentive to his needs, and to the needs of the family members who are sometimes more than his. It is a hard decision when realizing that the best thing for a parent it not to have them at home and them finding a place that you trust to care for them. Nurses, doctors, techs and activity directors have all taken the time to learn about him and take time to understand his needs and his interests. They are also sensitive to his needs and to our needs and do not hesitates to involve us when needed or let us be involved when we need it. Do we want him at home, yes. Is that what is best for everyone, no. He is where he needs to be and he does seem to be happy. He is still very important and they work with us to let him know that each and every day.

My dad is doing well since moving into Brookdale Winter Haven. He does not currently participate in any activities but they do have a lot available. We had a chance to try the food and I thought it was good. The staff are nice and attentive to him and the family. The community is kept clean inside and out.

We began looking for a place for my brother-in-law to live once we realized that we were not able to care for him properly. Brookdale was one of our first visits because it is nearer to our home. Our first visit told us that we had probably found what we were looking for. The facility is beautiful, the staff is very knowledgeable, and everyone there is kind and helpful to the residents. Once Richard moved in, they made it their goal to see that he was happy and adjusted. Unfortunately, Richard was not able to stay long because he was hospitalized with a serious medical problem. Although Richard passed after a few weeks, Brookdale again was there to offer support and guidance during our period of grief. I would recommend Brookdale of Winter Haven to anyone who is seeking help with their loved one with memory problems.
