Most complaints were about cost. They need to work on their laundry process. A lot of my mom's things were lost. I always talked with the residents while I was there with my mom. That was daily. Continually heard residents complain .Aides are great, admin staff is sneaky, misrepresented their qualifications. Not sure they have the residents best interest forefront. Run by corporate so beware

Response from Brookdale Union Park
November 5, 2024We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality care and services to our residents and their families. Our management team has reviewed these concerns and we wish to assure you the safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority.
Honestly it was the type room that was available at that time that made us choose Brookdale Union Park over others we looked into. However, I talk to others who were familiar with Brookdale prior to my decision. The team tries hard to give quality cares. They are always willing to discuss any concerns I have in an open and honest manner.

Brookdale overall is a great place for mom. As with all things if I was evaluating certain individuals I would say 5 for friendliness and quality of care however, I do believe they listen when family points out a concern. Also, I appreciate that there is a wonderful hair stylist that comes weekly as that is a nice addition so you can get your hair done. My mom loves that.

improvements can be with the Care & Cleanliness. That's all my momma was only there a few weeks before she passed. She seemed to love it, but their evaluation of her capabilities were off. She needed more assistance and were told often it wasn't in the plan. Mom made friends quickly who were helpful. It was very bittersweet for me and have a hard time sharing about it. I have so many raw emotions still.

In general all of staff is wonderful. A little concerned with making them 100% in charge of medical needs. Not fully convinced they are qualified. There are not really any areas for improvement as far as activities go, I know it is difficult for my mom since she has Alzheimer's. She is not always onto the activities- She may just be not responding and joining in. I would recommend Brookdale Union Park to others. They are making facility improvements which is nice to see

The head nurse was very rude and not a compassionate or caring person to the residents. The "Doctor" actually a PA, was never available and not a reliable medical person to care for a geriatric person. The food served was horrible. It was always canned products and not always enough food offered to the residents. I've contacted the Corporate office of Brookdale with our concerns and never heard back. That tells me they do not take these things seriously. I would not recommend Brookdale Union Park.

Response from Brookdale Union Park
July 13, 2023Thank you for choosing Brookdale and taking the time to share your feedback. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have and encourage you to contact our management team.
The move in process for Brookdale Union Park was great. The staff was most helpful. According to my loved one, the food was outstanding. It's a very clean facility and they assisted my loved one with making sure that she was clean as well. They hired a nurse supervisor that, in my opinion, was/ is a compulsive liar. Instead of addressing issues she preferred to cover them up and that was the beginning of the decline of the facility. After being there for seven months, we all decided that my loved one needed more help. Therefore, we moved her to a nursing home. I do need to add that the administrator, [name removed], is outstanding! She works long days and weekends too, filling in areas that are short staffed. She has a God given skill in caring for the elderly. I would definitely recommend this facility as long as the resident has family to check on them and make sure everyone is doing their job.

I chose Brookdale Union Park because it just felt right. They were very friendly and the sales lady who I worked with was very accommodating. Everything fell into place and is working out well. The staff is INCREDIBLE. Granted everyone has staffing shortages right now, we have our issues with that as well. But everyone who is here is so helpful. I was using a power chair before coming and they do not allow those here. I am getting used to a regular wheelchair and they are really helpful with helping me get to places and not making me do things by myself. The director is very approachable, her door is always open. During mealtime every staff member is in the dining room helping out. The only thing I have been disappointed in is the activities. We do have parties but there are not many actual activities to participate in other than bingo. They are a pet friendly facility as well. We have 3 dogs and a cat that I have seen so far. I would absolutely recommend Brookdale Union Park to others looking.

We had an Elopement event that happened with our mother due to confusion from a UTI. She got out of the facility at 8:00 pm and was found back in the neighborhood behind the facility at 9:00 pm. Bad

Response from Brookdale Union Park
December 30, 2022The care and well-being of our residents is our highest priority. We take your comments seriously and can confirm that our community responded quickly to locate your mom and made sure she received immediate care. Your feedback is very much appreciated and we have shared your concerns with our corporate management team. Thank you.
Unfortunately I wouldn't trust your loved one here. They allowed my momto leave the facility in the cold dark rain one night around 8:00 pm. She had a UTI which causes disorientation and confusion in the elderly. It's very common. She was found way back in the neighborhood behind the facility. She had been a resident since [time frame removed]. They weren't attentive to her as they should've been. A very unfortunate event.

Response from Brookdale Union Park
December 28, 2022Hi Cindy, it's unfortunate to hear you feel this way as the care and well-being of our residents is our highest priority. We take your comments seriously and can confirm that our community responded quickly to locate your mom and made sure she received immediate care. Your feedback is very much appreciated and we have shared your concerns with our corporate management team. Thank you.
My mom was the one who chose Brookdale Union Park, she felt it was the best fit. It is very close and convenient to me as well which is nice. It was a little difficult getting her in and settled - the communication when someone new arrives could be improved on. Things like the schedule on when things are supposed to happen like laundry, activities, etc. It has gotten much better though and the communication is improving. Overall we are pleased with the experience.

The care services Brookdale Union provides are great, however it is a more expensive community. Before COVID they had activities like arts and crafts, and they would also bring in a preacher. The rooms at this community are pretty nice.

Toured in 2014 when my mom was ill. Seemed to be a descent place but was concerned with numbers and kept both parents at home at that time.

I really enjoyed my tour of this community. It is a very nice community with kind people. The community looks very nice, everything looked great. The staff was kind, and informative. All my questions answered. The residents looked very happy. Unfortunately they didn't have a respite opening at the moment, but my tour went very well.

I had a great tour of this place and would defiantly recommend it to anyone looking into assisted livings for there loved one. They had a wonderful community with a lot of great amenities available to there residents including meals and activities. When we where prepared to sign the contract we had sat down the nurse and it was way out of our budget for what they would charge us to care for my mother.

My mother in law is great here at this community. She wanted to move here, so far it has bee good experience. It has been an adjustment process for the whole family, but we know she is in a good place. The community looks beautiful, they do a very good job keeping everything nice and clean. The staff is great, and the director Ingrid is amazing. We know she is safe and being cared for well here. I would recommend this community, it is a great place.

Initially I was excited to use their services for only 2 weeks when we had to place mom there while we went overseas. After we came back it was a nightmare. Not only did they call social services to investigate us which was totally dismissed and unfounded but they also ordered $146.00 of medication which we recieved a bill for that she no longer needed per her doctor. This place is a nightmare if they aren't going to keep the person permanently but they gave it a good try!! Thank god for our support from the doctors and her home health services!! I will never use their services again!

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale Union Park 8.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
