The staff was really nice, I think the quality of care would be better if staffing was better. I think they need to keep more staff on hand. The price is outrageous and my family decided to move her back into independent living at a different location against my wishes. She didn't love that the doors were locked and told everyone she was living in prison, I liked that the doors were locked... It is a nice community and the building seems to be maintained and updated. I have no other experience with any other assisted living homes. The price of any of these senior homes makes me very upset. Personally I think it's outrageous and a bigger majority of it should go to paying people to take care of residents. I think if they had more staff that were treated better, the residents would get better care... Read more

They have issues with getting laundry done, bed made, mom showered twice daily, nighttime care. However, based on the experience we have had so far we would recommend this community to other families.

They have been in turmoil since my sister in-law was there. They had turn over of the staff from the time we started there. EVERYTHING related to the administration needs improvements. I would NOT recommend them at all.

Clean, pleasant smelling facility. Large (and tall ceiling), open community areas and court yards. Good atmosphere. Excellent corporate philosophy (Higher Path). Good Care. Well run, organized (and improvements being made). Great food, excellent chef, w/ meal-time alternatives. Friendly, visible and available management and care workers, med techs. Can schedule transportation for external appointments. Very good activities calendar and director of activities. Plans for more off-site excursions. Management: Executive Director, Nurse and Sales Manager - are very competent and engaged. Billing is straight forward, comparatively affordable - no surprises. I have both parents in this community. One is in assisted living, and the other is in memory care. The Memory Care unit is very bright, clean, orderly, well staffed (and not depressing). The best memory care unit atmosphere we've experienced. MC engagement could improve some. Bickford is the best facility of the 3 we've experienced.

This is a continuation of my father in laws end of life care. In the evenings they only had nursing assistances and 2 med techs. The med tech was very nice, however she didn’t know the difference between mg vs ml!!! She didn’t understand pain management, urinary retention (from narcotic use.) She explained that the Nursing assistance really don’t do much and she helped me turn my dad in bed. Once my dad passed away we came the next day to pick up his belongings. [name removed] instructed one of the nurse assistance to keep an eye on 1 of the patients because she didn’t want him to wander out the door while we were moving our stuff out of the facility. Once [name removed] left, she walked the patient to his room and closed his door and told him, “Just stay in there!” And then closed the door! She then proceeded to sit down by the TV and play on her phone. Many of the nursing assistance just sat on their phones! Lastly, it took Bickford 16 weeks to issue our refund check! We had to ask for it many times.

I loved the place when my father in law was cared for in the assisted living area. There were activities, good meals, and he could sit in different areas to keep his mind occupied. However when my father-in-law became worse and was placed on the memory ward; it was awful. He needed hospice/end of life care; the RN did a poor job assessing my dad’s needs for pain management. Every time we went there his door was closed??!!! Being a hospice nurse for over 12 years I would never keep any doors closed; otherwise you are unable to evaluate/assess how they are doing. He could have fallen on the floor and know one would even know! They never turned him and when I asked they didn’t have any pillows to place our dad in a different position (He was so weak he wasn’t able to turn himself.)He was always soiled (the odor was horrendous!). I asked for oxygen to help with is breathing; it never came. Many evenings when the nursing assistance were just sitting on their phones!! Not caring for the….

Response time for calls can be very long depending on who is working. Sometimes up to 45 minutes. Some nights there was only one aide working! When she first got there and needed a lot of support I didn't feel comfortable leaving her there alone. She needed more help than they could give her. There was a huge change in management while my mom stayed there making it difficult to talk to anyone in charge about issues. The facility is clean, my mom's room was very dusty and cleanliness depended on the staff that day. When my mom went to the dining hall for meals they were good, when she ate in her room they were cold. My mom liked the kindness of the activity director, the cook and one of her caregivers.

So the overall experience has been pretty ok. There are glitches that are not Bickford's fault, it's the fault of the care person. Hard to keep good staff like anywhere. When staff is there, dad sometimes waits a long time for someone to come to his aid (changing his brief, etc.). Overall though, my dad is happy there. At least as happy as he can be at this stage.

They were understaffed at the time and communicated poorly when they were attempting to care for my parents. That inefficiency led to my father's loss of appetite (not bringing his newly made dentures to the memory ward), missing clothing(they took my mother's clothing to the memory ward for him), which led to physical weakness during the COVID and his death shortly afterwards.

My father loves the food. They are on top of his medications. Communication is pretty decent, but not perfect. The facility is very clean and updated. The staff is friendly and accommodating.

Great experience so far but it's hard to keep these places staffed. It looks and smells like a new house. The activities person is great and they have daily activities. My mom loves the food. There's a new assistant director that is trying to improve things. Everyone is super approachable. Housekeeping and laundry could be better. Hard to keep a housekeeper as well. They have pull cords in the room and the residents wear pendants. There's a key fob for family to let themselves in and out.

As the responsible family member of a memory care resident, I was concerned when no one answered the phone during business hours. I then attempted to leave a message with the Director, but his phone mail box was full. So, I contacted the District Director about this issue. She said she would look into it and call me back later in the week. When I did not receive a call back, I left her a reminder message which fell on deaf ears. I then contacted the corporate office twice to relay my concerns. Again, no return call from anyone. Over the past year or so, this facility has been a revolving door having 4 different managing Directors and is in disarray. The Corporate Office finally did call me acknowledging my latest attempt to contact them. They referred my comments back to the District Director who called and asked me if the problem had been resolved. She did not recall having made a commitment to call me back. Nor did she recall my reminder message. Where do they find them?

My mom was at Bickford from [date removed]until she passed away in [date removed] The entire staff was fabulous, meal variety was very good, activities were wonderful, rooms were always good. The garden area was a very pleasant place to visit with my mom.

What sticks out the most to us about Bickford of Canton is that it is a smaller facility. I liked this because I felt that my loved one would get more personalized care here.

The virtual tour was informative.
I would recommend Bickford to anyone looking for an assisted living facility. They opened their arms and welcomed my mom in her time of need. They have the friendliest staff and the facility is so clean. The food is delicious and plentiful.

We chose Bickford of Canton because I felt that my moms needs would be met, it is a smaller community vs a larger building so the staff to patient ratio was better and I walked in and it felt like home. She is in a memory care studio and I think for her purposes it is just fine. Everybody knows everybody here, the staff members are so friendly and know each resident by name even their family members. I would recommend to others looking.

We chose Bickford at the time because it was nice and new and I liked the staff members. Once you get into the system, reality hits and you find out quickly that things aren't as nice as what was presented. Part of that is out of their hands of course with covid. I think that the administrative staff could improve on communication and following through on things.
