At Belmont Village :There seems to be a lot of turnover with the administrative staff, but the caregiving staff stay for the long-haul, which ultimately I feel is more important because they develop the rapport and important psychosocial engagement that determines whether quality of life is good or bad at the end of the day. The activities are super engaging and consistent and the facility is small enough that there seems to be a good ratio of caregivers to residence. If your loved one is in the supportive living program there, I would highly recommend getting the alert button/pendant used to call for a Pal when support is needed. It's a good safety measure and there is a good response time. [name removed], [name removed]and [name removed]were the caregivers, or Pals, that my aunt worked with most often and they were truly wonderful and authentically kind people. I would recommend actively advocating and visiting with your loved ones there. Like any Senior Care residential space or skilled nursing facility, the more involved or present you are the better idea you have your loved ones' needs and the more likely you'll see an alignment between identifying their needs, and their needs being met. Also, at Belmont Village, for comprehensive continence support, ADL support and medication management she was paying around $[fee removed] monthly out of pocket for her unit. This was excellent and beautiful, and she was able to have her cat as long as a family member came and took care of it and scooped the litter. However, she blew through funds pretty quickly at that rate and ended up, outliving her money, which forced us to move her to another facility. The administrative staff was willing to help her downsize to a smaller unit which had less devastating rent, but even so it was quite expensive. However, she did receive excellent care...... The staff is not trained on how to take care of elderly dementia residents., but the cleanliness is their saving grace. A smile and a hello go a long way the staff does neither. Mom is left in her room by herself for hours at a time which I was told would never happen. My kids school lunches were better nutritionally and had better product quality. There are few to none. I've only seen mom once in the activity room. Considering the quality of care and meals. The only reason she is there is because Belmont is grandfathered in for 2 person assist. No other facilities that I liked and looked at in Oak Park / River Forest could accept her.

I would say that Belmont has done a fantastic job of hiring friendly people. On the other hand, working with their finance office has been challenging. It took quite a while to get our billing straightened out.

September 11, 2024We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review, and we’re glad to hear your billing has been taken care of now.
As far as respite care, they weren't the best. I had to wear a knee brace and nobody wanted to either learn or pay attention to how it needed to be done. The place was short on staff and it really affected the type of care you received. I was OK most of the time, but I would never want to go there if I was in the shape of most of the residence. I don't believe that because you have dementia or Alzheimer's that you should be treated that way, like I said it wasn't everybody but they really do need to clean house. Some of the bells have been there so long they need to retire because they can't handle an overweight person in a wheelchair. It was just not the best experience in my point of view. Some of the staff were great and others were awful. They are under new management and when that settles down and they get enough staff that they're not short it might be different but at this point I would not recommend them to other families.

The staff is awesome. There's an in-house doctor and psychiatrist that take care of medical needs as well as multiple nurses physical therapists and assistance Activities are limited by the space available. The food is under a new head chef and hopefully will improve.

Response from Belmont Village Oak Park
June 19, 2024Thanks for your kind words. We’ve passed them along to our staff. Our community is always staffed in accordance with our licensure and based on resident needs, and that means having a great medical staff and physical therapists in our community to support our valued residents at all times.
It was really quite an amazing place. Overall, initial staff contact was extremely timely and warm. Patient care assistants were patient and friendly. The building was spotless and meals represented a wide variety. Our family member did not engage in any activities but there were many things to do and the one bedroom apartment was lovely and bright. I found it to be quite the value considering American House had a menu format for cost, which would have been 30 percent higher. For the 30 day respite stay, Belmont Village was a flat fee; much more clear with expenses. Additionally, the on site speech, physical and occupational therapy was seamless to put in place. As I said, it was quite the amazing find thanks to A Place For Mom.

June 19, 2024Thanks for your in-depth review and we’re glad to hear you’re amazed by our Belmont Village Oak Park community. We strive to offer the highest level of care possible to our residents, which means excellent and healthy food options, physical and occupational therapists, a variety of activities and premier amenities to enjoy.
If a friend asked me about my experience with the community, I would say that everything has been good except for the billing experience. I have had to go back and forth over the bill with accounting several times before we got things straight. One of the main problems you never got billed on time. The staff is excellent and it is only two and a half miles from my brother.

Belmont Village Oak Park went above and beyond. I am an only child and they helped me sort through a million details of moving my mom from a place 60 miles away where the quality of care had declined significantly. They've been available and solutions oriented as things arise. I really love that they have dentist and Rush affiliated doctors to make house calls. My mom's room is large and well appointed and there are many options on food each day. This move has changed my mom's life and my life for the better.

January 25, 2024We are so glad to hear the move to Belmont Village has improved your mom’s life, along with yours. Thank you for your thoughtful words. Contact our Executive Director for any questions if you need please.
BV is understaffed and their PALs staff is not trained how to respect and handle the elderly. And no smiles or hellos. Some have been rude to friends that visit. Management team members are great. Not the level of care I was expecting, especially for memory care. I am tempted to move mom but who's to say another location would be any better. They charge an additional [name removed] per month for 2 person assist which I think is outrageous. They need to reevaluate. My experience is only with the memory care unit so I can't speak for the other areas.

Overall, the place is safe, clean, and pleasant. For me, it just didn't work. I never get any feedback. As one of the more expensive places, I was hoping for this. They never take the memory care residents out, except the patio (Another location takes them out). I was told that the staff had the ability to get residents out of their room. My brother won't come out. My brother doesn't join the activities. They don't alter the TV shows, activities to help him socialize. After a conversation about this, I was told that someone could walk my brother around. That never happened. The center might be great for someone who is not as active as my brother.

The management and higher ups are great however the lower staff needs improvement. The management is great at taking care of any problems and response time is responded in a timely manner. I like that they always call me back and they take responsibility, Overall this has been the best we have seen.

February 21, 2023We appreciate your feedback. If you have any specific concerns you wish to discuss, please reach out to our Executive Director.
Staff were not friendly and they are short staffed, I do not see the aids on the floor. The food went downhill so much my loved one does not want to even eat here anymore. Others need to know that this facility is not what you think it is. They put on one face, but when they are dealing with anyone with progressive dementia, they do not know how to deal with it. They are not good with communication at all with the families either.

February 21, 2023We’re sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction. Providing quality care for our residents and a positive experience for our family members is important to us. We shared your concerns with the Executive Director. We encourage you to reach out to her as concerns arise that that she can address them promptly.
The residents and the overall transitional hospitality of the staff was REALLY good. A lot of people are coming into this situation blind and they were a huge help. They do a great job of not babying the residents who do not want to move. They really cater to the families and respect the residents at the same time during this period of time. They have a type of transitional program where you can come stay for 1-3 months and see if it is the right fit and we really like that aspect. From what I have heard when people do this, a lot of the individuals end up just wanting to stay there. They are very transparent about pricing and the different levels of care that are offered and we appreciate that. Residents can age in place, so you do not have to worry about moving them again if their care increases. The facility is very homey and does not feel institutional - I do not have to worry about her anymore and she does not feel insecure about being here. She made friends right away as well. They have wine and cheese days on Wednesdays and they bring in live entertainment - the activities are just great. I would absolutely recommend Belmont Village Oak Park to others looking.

November 29, 2022Thanks for your in-depth review and recommendation, and we’re happy to hear your loved one is enjoying her new home. We’re always striving to create a positive and comfortable community with varied activities and best-in-class amenities. Feel free to contact our Executive Director if you ever have any questions or concerns.
Belmont Village has good staff and is a good, secure, healthy place for your family member to be in. The care is good, although there is some red tape for certain things they don't do in-house, like wound care. The food is good. It's like you're eating at a 5-star hotel. They do a good job keeping everyone busy with activities, especially during the day, with more easygoing things planned during the evenings. And the cost is within range of other places in the area.

If you are looking for a community, you can feel comfortable in placing your loved one here. The cheerfulness and compassion of the staff stand out to me, along with the way the family is treated. The communication with the staff is good. There are three meals a day served in the dining and there are options for the residents to choose from.

I would recommend you go and visit the community for yourself. This is a great place for your loved one to be. The staff are very friendly. The community is extremely clean from top to bottom. The meals are excellent. There are three meals a day and snacks served twice a day. The check in and check out process was beautiful during the short stay, prior to my loved one becoming a fulltime resident of the community.

Thank you for such positive feedback on our Oak Park community. Our family had an in person tour and it was a great experience but it was just to far away.
Belmont Village was a beautiful facility. They invited us to come for a day visit and we got to eat a meal there in their restaurant. The only reason we did not choose this facility was because they did not take medicaid and were privately owned, so it was going to be too expensive, but it was very enticing.
The staff is very involved, friendly and the communication between the staff and the families is good. They well us vell informed with newsletters and they quick to return calls. I would recommend this community to others
