My friend lives in the independent living tower here and tells me that the elevators stop functioning often, new ones are promised by management, but never are installed. Heating has ceased in several apartments, the whole tenth floor at one time in the very recent past. Space heaters are provided, but do not adequately heat living spaces. Additional television channels have been promised after the public station KOCE was arbitrarily removed. The standard reply from management is that they are "waiting for a part". The "part" never comes. Also, an elderly black resident was told she could not enter the dining room with her motorized wheel chair when other walkers and manual wheelchairs are permitted. Said tenant has moved elsewhere. Been told others are planning that, too. Me, I would not live here. Been told Pacifica has a bad rating with Better Business Bureau.

April 10, 2024Our community has received three negative reviews from this reviewer, whose intent appears to leave a bad impression on this community. As he has not been a resident and is only continuing negative hearsay, we are requesting the other online platforms to remove his comments for online bullying. We are a community in good standing, and our maintenance issues are addressed when they arise. Our staff are dedicated, trustworthy, and can be relied upon to consistently meet care requirements. We suggest that anyone looking for a senior living community visit us, take a tour and see for yourself.
The Facility is old and the Staff is young in comparison. They both express their curiosity and service to prospective patients!

My lower ratings are due to: Recent changes whereby staff no longer empty trash and some residents have trouble carrying trash down the hall to the chute, and also their TV package always seems to have at least 1 network out of order, and no one there is able to repair, and it takes Direct TV multiple weeks to get out and fix. Otherwise they are fine.

He meets twice a month with residents to address any concerns. As well as conducting an “all-resident” monthly meeting.
Staff and residents are very friendly and helpful. Staff is responsive to the needs of the residents. Elevators are a problem. Breaks down often. Not a good thing for a 14-story building with residents that have mobility issues. An overhaul of the elevator is needed. The first floor area would benefit from a hotel-grade air freshener system to combat overflow kitchen smells. 12-hour dining would be ideal. Spot shampoo carpet in hallway on floors that need it. We've been informed that there's going to be a rent increase of up to 10%. Very high increase for residents that are on a fixed income.

He meets twice a month with residents to address any concerns. Your comments about the carpets and air freshener would be good to discuss with him. He also conducts an “all-resident” monthly meeting. Just like any other downtown building, occasionally one of the elevators stops operating and we understand that it is frustrating but it’s good to know that there is a second elevator.
Very homey, comfy, and people seem genuinely happy there. It's a fun place. Great value for price, very nice apartments and excellent meals. Nice grounds. Very nice staff. Where they fall down is maintenance: it takes a long time to get things repaired and it's an old building so things tend to break. Broken garbage disposal, broken fridge, clogged bath drain, no heating and an out-of-service elevator all happened in 4 weeks. All were slow to be repaired. So patience is required. We chose for price, location, and desirability.

Pacifica in San Diego purchased Boxby Towers in June 2023. Faculity is no longer safe. Evacuation failures, no night person, building locked at 5:30pm. Need a FOB to get in. Numerous leaks and floods. Food is heavy on carbs. Promised vegan choices but did not get them.

Elevators were not functioning, so residents did not get any meals that day. No staff to help residents in at night. Most residents complain about food. Dining room runs out of food. Delivery bus for doctors and church visits is now smaller. Rent has been raised more than discussed in initial interview.

As well as conducting an “all-resident” monthly meeting. Just like any other downtown building, occasionally one of our two elevators stops operating. It may not be as convenient for residents, but you will always have access to the second elevator. When an elevator is down, it does not impact meal service, as we would deliver meals rather than having someone miss out. If the main entrée doesn’t appeal to you, you can select an alternative from the “always available” menu. Feel free to ask the dining room staff for these selections. Finally, we pride ourselves on providing the same stellar service without rent increases for the past 1 1/2 years.
The new owners/management don't know how to operate a senior independent living facility. Meals are not always available (not planned accordingly), the rent is raised the maximum allowable by state law and then services are curtailed (bed linen.& towels laundry), toilet paper, house cleaning. The elevators don't always work (14 story building), hot water is not always available, HVAC is spotty, no night time security. Construction noise keeps residents awake during the night. Looking for another place to move Mom to, this place is a.disaster.

February 2, 2024When residents are not happy with the services that we provide, we prefer that you take a few minutes to discuss your concerns with our Executive Director, Don McDonald. He meets twice a month with residents to address their concerns. As well as conducting an “all-resident” monthly meeting. It is true, occasionally elevators do not operate, but we have two elevators in the building. It may not be as convenient, but residents will always have access to the other elevator. Our menu selections include a daily entrée and an “always available” menu. If items are not available, it means that a vendor did not have them in stock when they made the delivery. There has been no interruption in housekeeping services as they are scheduled on a weekly basis. The HVAC has been spotty, and it is currently being upgraded. We want you to be aware that night construction is not allowed after 5 p.m., so please talk to us about the noise that your mom is hearing. Finally, we pride ourselves on providing good service without rent increases for the past 1 1/2 years.
This is the only place worth the money. It's a great place to live. I would recommend it to others and I found it on my own. I had no help from your organization

the residents in general are happy, cheerful group who love to get out and enjoy life. We have 2 bus which takes us out to the parks and restaurant's. My wife and I have enjoyed our decade here.
