My mom has been a resident of The Bader House in Plano since June 2022. It is a wonderful, compassionate home for those who need extra support and care as a result of Alzheimer's Disease. When my Dad and I sat down with the team, the first thing that was said is that "we take care of the developmental needs of those with AD." As a lifelong educator, those words gave me great assurances. There's not enough space here to share all the ways they meet resident's developmental needs. The worst part of Mom's AD has been when she felt scared. At the Bader, she is content, calm, and happy. They are constantly providing activities and guests entertainers from musical performers to a magician. The residence is relatively small with about 24 guests making it feel like a home environment. When I brought Mom to Bader, the director said to me, that my mom now has a full team of caregivers, and I could return to my role as daughter full-time. After two years those words have held true. Most of the time when we came to visit the residents were sitting around watching tv or in their rooms. The MD wouldn't listen to our concerns/wants. Our LO was placed on some serious meds and had never taken any before. Our LO was accused of "aggression." There was no history of aggression. The bedrooms are unlocked throughout the day so they wander around into places they shouldn't be. They insisted LO needed an inpatient psychiatric admission. At that point we went to go pick up our LO and their belongings because we were fed up. We wrote to administration and sent certified about our concerns but no reply. Turnover is ridiculous. Staff would leave without explanation. The admissions dir. is now at another facility, too. Thankfully, we found a facility where LO is happy and well cared for. No heavy meds or need for a psych facility. For the $XXXX [amount removed] monthly rate at Bader you definitely do not get what you pay for. It's a beautiful facility but that means nothing if the care is subpar.
