The best place for mom

We chose Atria largely because of the location and the price. Also, my mother in law wanted to be able to go to church, and Atria has a bus that would bring the residents to the church down the street. The room sizes here are sufficient. She has a living room, bathroom, bedroom, and kitchenette. We have eaten here and the food to us was good. She likes the food. She has an aid that helps her read the menu. they serve fresher foods. When we read the reviews, we had heard the food wasn't as good so we were leary, but we pleasantly surprised. My favorite part about the community is the activities they provide as well as the care. The activity director is wonderful, she really cares about the residents. She likes to be busy so she really appreciates all the things to do. They have electric doors so she is able to go outside and get fresh air in her wheelchair which she would not be able to if she was at home. I would recommend this community.

Stay Far Away if you love you family

If you care about your loved ones I suggest you NEVER go to Atria Senior Living in Plainview. This review has been a long time coming. My mother who was my best friend was 79yrs old and in January 2018 was playing tennis 6 days a week and doing water aerobics the same days in March she had a stroke but was recovering but mentally fine….6 years prior she was diagnosed with breast cancer and the very light chemo she was on was keeping it at bay… unfortunately stayed at Atriahell from Approx. Aug 2018-Nov 2018. I don’t even know where to start…. I would have to call every day to make sure my mother got her food when she wasn’t feeling well they bring the food to their rooms there was at least 4-7 times my mom was never given her meals, I would have to call and order her food then call her to make sure she received it…I called the desk more then once and said I wasn’t able to reach my mom Marie’s reply was “we have a lot of people here if I see her I’ll tell her” They are supposed to have someone go make sure she is ok. The WORST was the wellness center which is where everyone has to go for every issue. The Doctor at the time said my mother has a fungus under one of her breasts also at that time she had a wound from radiation she received. The Dr. suggested we bring in a nurse from TLC nursing who called me and said the lumps were not a fungus. So the head Nurse at the time “[name removed]” I emailed him 3-4 times mentioning what the nurse said and to this day never heard a response regarding him asking the Dr. anything about the wound under her breast. My mom also had a wound under a flap of skin by her stomach that was supposed to be cared for by Atria’s employees. I can tell you this when my mother lived with me the wound was dry and has no issue. At Atria when they gave her a shower (that you pay extra for) they some reason have an issue cleaning that area. I took her to a dermatologist where the wound was removed so I went to the wellness center and asked [name removed] (The rudest woman I’ve ever met) and asked if she got the fax regarding the care of the wound she asked me what it said and all it was that Vaseline was to be put on it she grunted and walked away I said how rude she was and she replied she was busy however she was the one who asked me what the fax stated and just letting you know this wasn’t my 1st experience having a conversation with her. Our family decided to hire our own caregiver to make sure she has food, her would was cared for etc. One day I decided since [name removed] wasn’t responding to my emails to wait for the Doctor. [Name removed] (part of the wellness center) said leave your # and we shall call you when he arrives. I was there almost 5 hours. So I finally went down for the 3rd time and the woman said “oh hurry he is about to leave” So [name removed] couldn’t even have the courtesy to call my phone # to tell me he was there. Those “Fungus lumps” was her cancer spreading and if the “wellness center” did their job I could have brought my mother to her oncologist. I totally feel like Atria contributed to my mother’s demise…. Oh another thing prior to my mom leaving I met with the Asst. Director who they brought in to “revamp” the place a little too late IMO in the meeting I mentioned how my mom didn’t want a shower at 7am because that was her only choice She said would you like me to have it changed to a better time I said I’ve asked that to everyone at the wellness center since she arrived and they said that was when they gave showers. For the price you pay and with us paying for an extra person which they don’t allow you to even do anymore. PS When I mentioned how rude [name removed] was numerous times no one ever disagreed seems likes she is very consistent, They had 2 amazing people there [name removed] who sadly left and I think her name is [name removed] who was a receptionist she is blonde. As for the wellness center I’d be shocked if they Kept [name removed] who was horrible. I hope you care enough about your family member to stay clear of Atria in Plainview as this was my horrific experience. PS That month approx 7 residents left the faclity

We felt very comfortable with our tour at Atria Plainview. We are actually signing a lease agreement with them. The atmosphere, living unit accommodations, medical support services, meal offerings, and social, physical fitness and comfort amenities were all beyond our expectations.

Deteriorating quality, inadequate staffing and really horrible food. The upper management does not want to improve it. They are sucking money as fast as they can and serving poor, non-nutritious food with only one or two servers per meal. Today lunch took 1.5 hours from sit down to stand up. Fewer choices on the menu at each meal, and today only one of two soups was available. chicken noodle had NO chicken and NO noodles. Just broth and frozen carrot squares. The food is really a sore point but they want to do it on the cheap so its not fresh. Just open a package from Sysco. Please stop running these pie in the sky reviews from 4 years ago. The place is really going downhill Family Member of long-time resident, paying about $9500 PER MONTH.

Buyer beware

OK my mom has been there several years. The food is abysmal. Poor in terms of nutrition, quality and freshness. Sugar treats every day one hour before dinner and sugary desserts with lunch and dinner every day. I've seen them give out little bags of potato chips, canned fruit salad, little fried fat-bombs from Sysco and plenty of junk food - for so called snacks one hour before dinner. Very scant servers in the dining room. The food seems to be mainly from Sysco pre-packaged. The fruits and vegetables are usually unappetizing and I don't think they have a proper kitchen. Breads are the whitest, cheapest garbage. The residents and families complain but it just keeps getting worse. Even after multiple calls to upper management, there seems no desire on Atria's part to improve. Many residents have left and we are looking. During most of our tenure we figured all these places have ups and downs, but the quality at this place is deteriorating so much that finally leaving is becoming an attractive option. NOTE: A few wonderful, dedicated and capable individuals make the place run and the activities are generally good-BECAUSE of these key people, but the overall structure is just to suck the money out of these residents and their families while giving minimal in return. They nickel and dime everything material they can. The goodness of the few caring staff is the one thing Atria can't ruin.

Great Choice for Assisted Living

My mother is a new resident at Atria Plainview, and the formerly isolated, tedious life she has lived the past several years (especially since no longer driving) has done a 180! She's busy morning, noon and night, taking advantage of the many varied activities offered. She sounds bubbly and enthusiastic whenever we speak. The staff has been wonderful in helping her make the transition from independent living, and many of the residents have been quite friendly and welcoming. Other than the high cost, which unfortunately is unavoidable, the only slight downside is the food, but we've been told they're getting a new kitchen manager from another Atria who (we hope!) will turn that around for the better. Overall, we're very happy with this facility.

She is very happy here, and that makes me happy. She doesn't love the food here, but when we tried to invite her for a barbecue she didn't want to leave. When we were looking we liked that the rooms were a little bigger here, and this just fit her personality better.

Very Impressed

Really impressed, very nice, smaller, I think that they have about 50 residents. It was small. Very, very nice facility. It reminded me of Embassy Suites, they have fruit available all the time on the main floor in a little kitchen area. I looked at a studio which was almost $4000 a month, it had a little kitchenette area in the room itself. Very nice. Everything was very clean. The bathrooms were new. Everything looked new, even though I know that it is about 10 years old. The residents looked clean and nice. Everybody looked happy. This was the first place that I saw, and the big thing, if you are not used to it, is that there is always going to be wheelchairs in the front. Initially to me, it looked like a nursing home. Like 10-15 people lined up in front of the building just sitting there. After the second or third place, I realized that it was the norm. They all have activities going on, bingo, lectures, but if you want to get some fresh air, you have to go sit by the front door.
