Memory Care
Senior Living is not only a tough transition for the family, but it's also hard finding the community that fits mom or dad's needs. Is there activities for them to do? Is the food good? Is the staff nice? Here at Brightstar these questions are reassured right in front of your face. From the moment you walk in, staff is so bubbly and friendly. Almost everytime I come to the community, there's some fun activity going on in the common areas. From live music to happy hour, even UNO! The residents seem far from bored. I love how small this building is as well, it makes it all the better. Everyone knows everyone. This facility is always clean and smells great. The food is made from scratch and there are a minimum of 6 activities per day! (WOW)
The room sizes are good. The staff is kind. They have been proactive regarding Covid-19. The food is good. They have some outdoor space. They usually have a lot of activities and bring in entertainment for the residents. They have a beauty salon.
The friendliness, the cleanliness, and the staff are all very nice. The food could use some improvement. The staff and chef are friendly and nice, but the system of ordering a meal isn't a friendly atmosphere. It's not cheery, it looks rough, and its not open or inviting. Residents can't see what's going on because the kitchen is closed off and behind closed doors; it's kind of tucked into in a closet-like room. With the menu selection - the residents have to circle their upcoming meals, which can be very confusing. My parents have Alzheimer's and dementia, so its just mind boggling to them. Besides writing their name on the paper, the action of circling the menu is tricky. For example: choosing the main entrée, side, etc.. I wish they would just say, "We're serving this tonight with these options." The meal selections are very limited, and kind of yucky - it doesn't taste very good. My parents may not be "circling" correctly. When I've been there there's only one CNA and maybe she does help, but I don't know. And if she does, she would have to help the whole room - so I'm unsure if they're getting enough food if they aren't understanding the concept. There's something wrong with the food and with the entire system, they're having issues in that area. My mom also has to bring her own Splenda because they don't serve it, so she has to remember to bring it down for every meal. I wish they had that available, as well as Sweet'n Low. I just wish there were different options for sweetener already available for the residents. In regards to the activities, they just hired [name removed], the new activities director. Since she's started my parents have gone to a Luau, an ice cream social, and a movie. They've attended more activities in the last two weeks than their entire stay. So she's wonderful; I would say A+ to her! Communication between the community and our family is good. The nurse will call if something is wrong or if something has happened. She'll let us know what steps they've taken or what medications they've administered. The communication is very open and I like that. I would recommend Chapman Place to others, they just need to improve on the food.
