Braswell's Chateau Villa in Redlands, CA

This facility is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. The grounds and buildings are well maintained, though the building is old. The staff seems friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is relaxed, and my wife feels more at home here than she did in the previous place. There have been a few small maintenance issues, but the maintenance man has responded quickly and fixed them right away. The ceilings on the hallways are quite low, and I feel like I'm going to hit my head on a sprinkler head. The rooms, however, have a regular, higher ceiling. I would imagine the hallway ceilings were lowered to allow for retrofitting in the sprinkler system. They have deodorant spritzers in the hallways that provide a slightly too sweet odor. After having visited there a number of times, I think they could get rid of them. I haven't detected any "offensive" odors anywhere in the facility. According to my wife, the food is okay, but not great. Hard to get creative in an institutional setting! Her main complaint is that they always run out of salad. Seems like that would be an easy fix. They make her bed every day, (the other places she was in didn't,) at least most of the time. She has a private room which though not large, is big enough to get her queen bed into, which makes her happy. All in all, I would definitely recommend this place for good care and a clean, basic facility.

Big Bear Lake, California

Nursing Homes

A nursing home is a complex that offers housing to at least two individuals who are not related by blood or by marriage to the administrator. This type of residence provides its residents with 24-hour care administered by on-site nurses. These nurses offer healthcare services for people who cannot take care of themselves.

This type of community is a convenient and easy living choice for individuals 65 years and above, however nursing homes will routinely accept persons 55 and older which is unusual for other senior care types. Nursing homes are required to provide emergency dental services, medically-related social services, routine personal hygiene items, and specialized rehabilitative services (treatment for mental illness or intellectual disability) to residents. Many residents of nursing homes may have behavioral difficulties, which can consist of a tendency to wander, resisting assistance, or verbal outbursts. A significant number of nursing home inhabitants are individuals who experience difficulty with hearing and vision, have mental or physical disabilities, require assistance with daily tasks such as getting dressed, or have incontinence issues. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to get proper medical care, be treated with respect, to manage your money, and participate in activities. The most common mental condition effecting residents of nursing homes is dementia, which can cloud their and familiarity with their surroundings, memory recall, and decision making abilities.
