Cantata Adult Life Services a CCRC in Brookfield, IL
4.8

I recommend Cantata because they have a robust rehab gym staffed with professionals in physical therapy, occupational therapy, balance, speech/memory therapy. It is located on a quiet tree lined landscaped campus with onsite Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing and Independent Living. The staff communicates very well with the resident and the family. Price is fair market/moderate.

My main issues relate to money. They assessed my mother at a low level of care but then raised that within a month - even though her condition did not change. At the beginning of the calendar year, the rate for each care level increased. Then at her one year anniversary, the rent portion went way up. With all of that, we were then paying a lot more than what we expected when we signed on. I complained and they reduced all of it somewhat. Anyway, maybe this happens everywhere. But it is an issue. Once an elderly person gets settled in, a move would be difficult. I think they take advantage of that. All in all, I think it is a very good place. It is a little smaller than others I looked at. So, even though my mother is not outgoing and does not do the activities, she knows most of the residents and staff. The staff is very capable and warm which seems like the most important thing.

My brother [Removed] lived there for 2 1/2 years. I can't say enough good things about this facility. He had a lot of health needs but was able to be there and maintain a good amount of independence. The staff were always attentive to him and responsive to me. They helped us find wonderful aides who were able to assist him with things that he couldn't do and this allowed him to be as independent as possible. The staff are very caring and personable. The food was home cooked and he raved about it all the time. There were a number of activities and the residents always seemed very social with one another. It was very home like and affordable.

Oak Park, Illinois

Independent Living

For seniors who would like to live primarily without assistance but wish for the assistance of having housekeeping taken care of by professionalls, an Independent Living Community may be the perfect fit. Food preparation, leisure activities and housekeeping chores are handled while you are able to use your time as you prefer. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy the opportunity to live among peers, in a community with others of similar age groups and backgrounds. Typically comprised of a private living space and a full kitchen, these communities offer homes with many of the amenities of apartment life but without the hassle. Guests can be invited over and entertained, and there will be more time to spend with them with the basic maintenance of daily chores out of the way. While policies differ between communities, many residences allow pets as well. If medical or nursing assistance is desired, residents may always utilize the services of independent care providers. There are an assortment of advantages and costs to balance while deciding on an independent living community. It is important to determine if these services are covered in your care plan: transportation, internet access, laundry, private phone, initial assessment fee, parking, cable TV, and utilities. The benefits associated with independent living include beauty salon & barber shop, healthcare center, game/TV room, transportation, laundry service, concierge services, golf course, and security guards.
