More importantly, Glastonbury is rich with history – as the town with the second-highest number of genuine Colonial houses in the US, the village is riddled with beautiful architecture to equal the natural wonders of the Connecticut countryside.

The town of Glastonbury has 5 distinct historic districts, comprising 154 houses built before 1800. The architectural styles vary among districts, ranging from Colonial to Greek Revival to Queen Anne. Scenic tours are offered of the oldest house in town, the John Hollister House, built in 1675. Glastonbury is also home to the oldest continuously operating ferry in the United States, which connects South Glastonbury across the river to Rocky Hill. Along the Connecticut River you’ll find the Historic Glastonbury Boathouse at Riverfront Park, and the nearby Historical Society of Glastonbury, which operates a free museum in the village’s historic town hall.
