Good communication when looking at the place and asking questions. Afterwards, a bit confusing on who to talk to as there is no single point of contact for residents. Different people handle different responsibilities and there is no directory provided. The staff does seem to care about the residents and work hard to care for them. Currently, the facility seems a bit understaffed and they are hopefully hiring more people. There are activities every day. They seem basic such as bingo, or trivia. There are movie nights. I wish there was more variety in things to do as they are all "typical older people" activities. My mom doesn't like any of those things. The rooms are nicely laid out. The facility is nice. The food is okay. It's a good place overall and they they take good care of the residents.... Read more

The staff members who work there are wonderful, but the management team is disorganized as well as the food. The staffing level doesn't meet my mom's needs. I actually moved her out [date removed].

Mom was very restless and she needed a walker they couldn't figure out a way to keep her safe at night so she fell several times needing to go to the hospital at least twice. Fractured pelvis. Bumps and cuts. Many of staff were friendly and kind however management of her overall care and needs in Memory care was not adequate. She lasted only a few months there and we had to move her to a smaller facility more able to handle her specific needs. They did a much better job for significantly less cost. I spent days at a time at both facilities throughout moms stay at either one as I visited her every month for long weekends (4 days) my brother lives in town and also had the same experiences. our experience was in 2022 during the transition from sunrise to Windsong while many of the regular staff stayed on the management was new. So it's hard to know how they're doing in 2024, but I would certainly flag it as a potential challenge.

To a friend, facing the end of a parents life is tremendously difficult and the staff at Windsong do everything they can to make it easier. I picked Windsong because they made a very good impression when I toured the facility, but ultimately it was because a friend of my father moved her mother into the same facility at the same time and since his friend liked it he thought it was good enough for my mother

The staff is very friendly very attentive. Always greets me with a smile always is very upbeat. Everyone I talk to there practically is just so friendly and caring. I asked my mom last night, so what's her favorite thing about Windsong and if she's having trouble communicating now and she's not at all with it but I said what's your favorite thing and she said, I can't think of a specific I just like it she's like they feed me well there's activities she knows the people there she's they love her they treat her very well yes so far I've just been very pleased and I feel very fortunate and lucky to have found it. And I really thought they put on a great event last night that was very inclusive. The food was good. The service was good. They were really working our butts off because these are not people who generally do big event. I like serve waiters and stuff like that and I love the activities Director I'm totally spacing on her name right now she is so friendly and kind and always has a big smile, so I have nothing but great things to say. I would highly recommend it to anyone. We wanted to put my father there, but he's actually a little bit too with it to be there I just took my mom to the Christmas dinner they hold and it was honestly so magnificent. Everyone working so hard to make a happy and festive evening. It was lovely

The caretakers were wonderful but I was not happy with the way management charged me for services not rendered and the amount of time I spent trying to straighten it all out. I would never use them again or recommend them.

Love the Petaluma Community. However I would not pick this facility again. It was not a good fit for him. There was a bit disorganization and not enough staff to meet his needs. I do not think I would recommend Windsong for someone @ [name removed] level. He is back home.

What our family likes the most about the Windsong of Sonoma are the staff members. The staff are great as well as the surrounding gardens, and the apartment. The food is not great. The management is a little disorganized. But mostly it's been great. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families.

Our family had an in person tour with Windsong of Sonoma and even thought it was not the place for our loved one it was a lovely community and tour experience, but just too large.
Unfortunately our mom wasn't cared for well enough in Memory care. She fell 3 times requiring hospital visits nothing major occurred thankfully but their nighttime monitoring was nonexistent and we had to hire additional agency help for overnight at an exorbitant cost and the bottom line is that this facility was not the right fit for mom with her type and phase of dementia. I wish they would've recognized that and it would have been better for all. We transferred mom to a 6-bed facility which provides much better personal care for her special needs

The facility is great and all the staff are wonderful. It is in a great location also. My loved ones room is large and comfortable with a lot of natural light because it has a big window. It is all very nice. I would highly recommend Windsong of Sonoma for those looking for memory care.

this place is grossly understaffed for caregivers, they sre often diverted to the dining room to be food servers. an example when my fellow resident fell in the hallway called fpr help to get up no one heard her. after i started yelling for staff someone came finally upstairs from the dining room. it is not uncommon for thestaff to belittle residents loudly echoing across the dnimg room threy treat us like children. all is not rosy and cozy as appears here there is mismanagement of medical records and strangers who doles out medications we don't know who they are strangers let themsrlves into our locked rooms we are told they are "agency" people... they are neither or trained on what they are doing nor do they follow the policies that are established here. things seem very much out of control here. i have tried to speak to the -- about my concerns but she walks out of our meeting with excuse that she needs to use the restroom. in other words no importance is given toissues

Very dangerous place! Windsong took over the facility from Sunrise of Petaluma and Senior on August 1, 2022. Most of the staff is gone. Caregivers are stretched and many have no training. Do not do this to your loved one.

I would highly recommend Sunrise to others for their loved ones. This community isn't too big. There is great nurse to resident ratio. They have a very friendly atmosphere and staff. The staff communication with the family is very easy and very responsive. The community provides three meals a day and the residents are able to dine in the dining room or have meals delivered to their room. The apartments have a kitchenette in the units.

So far it has been a pleasant experience. There's always room for improvement, and I think they could do a better job. I think that's true of senior care in general. I would recommend Sunrise of Petaluma, but not heavily.

Response from Windsong of Sonoma
May 18, 2022Hi Customer! Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Petaluma. We appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review!
Sunrise was wonderful. My mom loved it. The service there was top-notch. We couldn't have been happier with our choice.
Everything is working out well for my father with his move to this facility. It is a nice community with kind people. I know he is safe, and in good hand. The staff is very kind, and always willing to help. They do a good job with the cleanliness around the facility. I'am pleased with all they have done for us.

My dad stayed here quite a few years back at Sunrise of Petaluma. So we knew that it would be a great place for my aunt. It is a beautiful well-kept, clean community. For the most part, the staff and caregivers are very friendly and caring and attentive to the needs of my aunt. We were having issues with one of the Sr. Supervisors who was condescending toward the residents and treating them with disrespect. We are hoping the issue has been resolved. The staff encourages my aunt to participate in the activities. She loves to help out folding towels and other things to keep her busy. We know that it helps her to co-mingle with others in her same stature. She does forget things but her state of mind is still high functioning to want and need the interaction with others. The staff is helping us to achieve what works best for her. I would definitely recommend this community to others.

I am very grateful for the amount of effort the staff have put towards helping my sister get better acquainted with her new living environment. They are willing to do whatever they can to help her live easily and in peace. They often help her with her hygiene if need be and are always going out there way to check in on her. It really is a lovely place and everything has gone as best as expected.

A Place for Mom has scored Windsong of Sonoma 7.7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
