Has had big turnover of management in the last 2 years. My MIL doesn't seem to like any of the food. I have eaten there a couple times and the food is ok, but nothing really to rave about. The community as a whole is good. All one facility so no going to different buildings as in other facilities.... Read more

I am enjoying the community. The manager is good and trying hard to help us. The dining room is still limited due to the pandemic. The food is being brought to the resident's rooms and it isn't always delivered on time or the temperature. I feel I have enough space in my room. The closets are spacious. This is in the one bedroom.

It is a Independent living community. The staff there are always keeping the residents engaged and activity even during this pandemic. They do bingo, arts and crafts. The food is just okay, they aren't serving it in the dining room right now. When the did serve it in the dining room the food was great. The layout is good, the rooms are smaller but adequate for one person.

One of the least expensive senior living options in the area, but there is a reason for that. The building is dated and suffers frequent maintenance issues, including apartments on the first and second floors getting flooded from rooms above. Roach infestation is very evident. The food is inconsistent at best. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful.

Response from University Pines by Sky Active Living
September 25, 2020Hi there, thank you for your review. The local team continues to work hard to update any maintenance issues that we come across that are reported. The water issues are uncommon and tend to be related to an overfilled tub or commode from rooms above. Thank you again for sharing this feedback. Our goal is to have happy residents and family members so your feedback is important to us.
There were some complaints that weren't address over time. Once the Sales department, they didn't do anything else. The management switched over, once my mother moved in and haven't heard anything else. The food was terrible about the . They lost their food service person. When I first visited, the food was really good. The food was never hot, it was always cold. They never brought the food that my mother asked for. My mother was in a studio apartment. They had roaches consistently. They did sprayed after two weeks. When we moved her out they were still roaches in the cabinets. Other residents in the community had pets and smoked in the units, which wasn't prohibited. The staff never addressed any of these things, when I let them know. The first manager left and I am not sure where he went. There was never any manager that I saw. I am not sure where the wait staff was. The sheets weren't changed for about a month.

August 25, 2020Hi Lisa, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We regret to hear that your experience was not completely satisfactory, and are confident it does not represent our community as a whole. Earlier this year, we did bring a new manager onto our team, and our current chef has been with us 18 months now. We would love the opportunity to speak with you further and get more details surrounding these concerns, please feel free to reach out to the community directly. They would be happy to work with you. Thank you
My mother has a studio apartment here on the bottom floor. The food isn't good. The maintenance team has entered her apartment without knocking a couple of times. Right now, the community is on lock down because of the Covid-19 pandemic and as a result, the quality of the food has continued to decrease. The management has also recently changed and my mother seems to like him. My mother gets three meals a day and gets housekeeping services for her room. It doesn't seem they have cleaned my mother's carpets.

August 25, 2020Hi Bridgette, thank you for your review. We regret to hear that you have not been completely satisfied with our community. Due to the protocols that have been in place during this time, meals have been delivered directly to the residents' doors. Our team understands this has presented some difficulties, and food remains a top priority. Our housekeeping process has also shifted a bit to comply with current protocols, however, any resident can request additional services as needed by housekeeping. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, please do not hesitate to reach out to our community directly. Thank you
The apt is nice and clean. All of the staff, very nice and good.

Everything seems to be going smoothly. We are in Chicago, my mother in Pensacola so we really rely on the staff there at University Pines to take good care of her. We are very happy so far.

I have been living here for 14 years. During this time I have seen a lot of changes. The Pines has a bright and cheerful environment....feels comfortable...just like home. There are lots of activities and outings that are planned during the year. Just a few weeks ago, we were treated to a baseball game and provided with a free lunch by our sponsors for the day Trinitas Christian School. Great fun. I have been making stuffed bears with donated fabric along with other residents for the past 10 years. We donate these bears to a local children's hospital so that when a child has to go to the hospital, they may be comforted with a new toy. I also play hand bells with a number of other residents and sometimes we go to other retirement homes on the provided transportation and play for them. Some other activities are Bocce Ball and exercise with [name removed]. Oh, and don't forget bingo. If you need to go to a doctor's appointment or some shopping near by, you can arrange it with [name removed], our bus driver. It's a great place to live.

A Place for Mom has scored University Pines by Sky Active Living 9.7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
