If we have to live in "God's waiting room", this is the place to do it. I would definitely recommend this community to anyone who would appreciate intellectual stimulation, meeting very nice people and just having fun. They offered more programs in the way of lectures on music, art, opera, movies, other things that interested me as well as games and trips to local events like the local symphony and the village theater. I love this place and I found that it is a good fit for me. Thank you for suggesting University House.

Response from University House Issaquah
August 21, 2023Dorothy, it's wonderful to hear when our offerings make for such a fine match with the ideal lifestyles of our residents! Thank you for your review. Please have a terrific day!
The University House appears to be a safe clean environment with lots of appealing amenities. My friend and I came to visit a mutual friend who’s lived there for several months now. He is very happy living there and has met some very nice people( both residents and employees). There are many activities and opportunities for those who reside at University House. In my opinion, living there would be wonderful. The price is a bit high but from all appearances, seems well worth it. We hope to return soon for perhaps a more formal tour. The staff is friendly and accommodating.

Response from University House Issaquah
February 15, 2023Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on your recent visit and your friend’s positive experiences at University House Issaquah. We love having visitors remind us of all the things that make our community so special. Our Community Relations team would welcome the opportunity to give you a tour at your earliest convenience!
We thought the price was too much, especially considering it was an older, dated facility. It felt like the 80s and didn’t offer as much as other places we looked at. So the value wasn’t there. The people were really nice, and they promised they were going to update the facility. The rooms just felt closed in. We ended up elsewhere with higher ceilings and overall a newer, nicer, more inviting feel.

June 19, 2021Kelly, thank you for sharing your feedback with us, and we are sorry to hear you won’t be joining our community. We hope you will come back to visit to check out our renovations that will be starting soon.
They're the most friendly staff I've ever experienced. They're so helpful. It tears my eyes to think of all they've done for my loved one. I think everything looks really clean, and they really try to keep an organized, welcoming environment. Cleanliness is important to me, so I pay a lot of attention to that. The food is good, and they have a good variety. The kitchen is kept clean, and the kitchen team is just amazing. Overall they provide a good amount of activities. I think with Covid, things have been a little bit slow, but I can still see the effort to get people out of their rooms. A little bit more activities would be great now that Covid is settling. I understand that it's independent living, but I think there's a lot of opportunity there for even more community events.

June 19, 2021Thank you, Maria, for sharing you and your loved one's positive experience with University House Issaquah! We are so glad your loved one feels at home here :)
My mother [name removed] lived in University House for three years until we had to move her to Spokane to be closer to another family member. [name removed] loved living at University House and especially enjoyed the other residents and activities there. In particular, she enjoyed the wonderful swimming pool, current events lectures and bridge games. I was so impressed by the caring staff, all of whom took the time to get know my mom and offer help and caring support as needed. The executive director is exceptional and ran the community with care and concern, while always available to our family when we had questions or needed extra assistance.

January 19, 2023Doug, thank you for taking the time to share your wonderful review. Our team is thrilled to hear about your mother’s years of happy camaraderie at University House Issaquah. We wish your mother all the best in Spokane, and we’re always here for your family with any questions.
In 2019 my parents moved from their home of 60 years in California to University House Issaquah. My mother says every day how much she loves living there. We are all so happy they made the move. The staff are friendly, kind, caring and always willing to help. The apartments are lovely, spacious, quiet, and the safety features in place give us peace of mind. We were happy to discover that University House Issaquah offers something for everyone, and the entire staff do their best to meet the needs of the residents. My parents have enjoyed the amenities including a dining room with excellent service, a salon, exercise room and a garden courtyard, just to name a few. Residents can participate & be active in the community, or just enjoy the peace & quiet and homey atmosphere. The University House Issaquah website gives a complete list and full description, if you select “Secondary Menu”. We highly recommend this location for senior living at its best.

February 14, 2023Jeri, your recommendation means a lot to our staff. It’s wonderful to know that your parents found a joyful home after such a significant move and that your family has found peace of mind with the decision. We’re always here whenever anything comes up for you or your parents.
We went with University House Issaquah because of the location and it seemed like it was a more active community than some of the other places that we looked at. They do offer a variety of room sizes, my mom is in a smaller apartment but it is comfortable for her. I have eaten here and the food is really good. The wellness center is one of the weak points of the facility. But they have done an amazing job throughout the shutdown working to keep everyone engaged and less isolated. My mom raves about the staff members here. I would recommend it.

I think it is great for someone who want to get involved in activities. The food is good and offera a variety, but less variety since the food is being delivered to the apartments since COVID. We chose this community because the location is close to me I would recommend this community. My mom like staff including the housekeeping staff and dining staff. I didn't feel like i was getting my money's worth on the scheduled checks and the health management part. The community has beautiful landscaping and it is a beautiful place.

The staff and the residents are wonderful people that helped us evolve into this new lifestyle which was a new experience for us. The building is older and needs renovation. The food is up and down, it was adequate but not superior. I would recommend this community.

University House has been a terrific place for my mother-in-law to live. She wanted comfort, security, good dining and an attentive staff. She got all that with the great people at University House. She enjoys bridge and other social activities. And she loves the food. University House is ideally located near stores, shops and the many medical and dental offices in the Issaquah/Sammamish area. It has all worked out wonderfully well.

August 1, 2019Thank you so much for your 5 star review! We are very happy to hear that your mother-in-law has settled in great and is enjoying our community!
Overall, we were very pleased with the living arrangements of University House. My father lived at University House for almost a year and during that time, he had nothing but positive feedback. He appreciated the friendliness of the staff and their willingness to help him. His apartment and amenities were prefect. The cleaning services were greatly appreciated. He was very content with the meals which were provided. While my father was not very social, I was impressed with the activities available. My father often used the exercise room and thought about the pool. He found the hair salon to be quite convenient and was happy with hair stylists. I would highly recommend University House to anyone be it a future resident or a son or daughter, such as myself who was searching for the best accommodating living arrangement for his/her parent.

April 5, 2019Thank you so much for your positive review! We are very happy to hear that your father enjoyed our community.
After a long search and many places we had found the perfect place for my Mom. I rated cleanliness only a 4 star only because of a large center piece of furniture that is in the lobby in front of the entrance smells like an old attic. I am not sure if it has ever been professionally cleaned or not. But the rest of this establishment is quite clean and taken taken well care of. The setting is beautiful. I rated activities only a 4 also because in comparison to some other places they had less activities, but the other places do not have an inside swimming pool which made up for it. My Mom loves using the pool. The dining I feel was the best in comparison to the other establisments also. They have a wonderful chef there that really knows how to prepare the best tasting dishes. The layout of the 1 bedroom apartment was design in a better fashion than most that we looked at around the area.

December 19, 2017Thank you for sharing your feedback. I’m sorry to hear that the lobby furniture smelled poorly to you. I’ve checked it out, and it looks like it’s been cleaned since you were here. Please let us know if you notice this again. We always strive to ensure that our residents and their family members feel at home and find all parts of our community inviting, comfortable, and clean. We’re happy to hear that your mom is enjoying the pool and the food. I encourage you or your mom to talk with me or our life enrichment team if you have special requests on activities. We’re always open to hearing new ideas from our residents and family members. Thanks again for the feedback! Esther Friend, Executive Director
We felt like this community would have been fine. They were a great community to see but the deciding factor was to find a place that had mostly people who could speak Cantonese with the same type of population. They were not the best fit for my In-Law.

September 29, 2017Thank you for your feedback, and it's nice to hear that our community left you with a positive impression. We hope you were able to find the right fit for your in-law.
My Mom has been there for about a year now. they were very understanding to what she needed and helped her (and me) get a new 'normal' established. I cannot say enough good things about the Front Desk Staff! they have been invaluable for me. When I come in to visit they are a wealth of information about where my mom is and how she is doing that day. Any place where large numbers of people live is going to have challenges but the cleaning and maintenance staff are on the ball when problems happen. I was there recently when they had a fire drill and as someone who runs those for a large company myself I was very pleased with the staff's communication, efficiency, and most importantly commitment to the drill. Well done. The several times I have eaten there the food has been excellent and the wait staff patient and attentive. Great job all around.

June 29, 2017Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful feedback, Robert! We strive to make what can be a difficult transition easier on both the residents and their families, and I am happy to hear that we succeeded with your family. It's an honor to have your mom as part of our community!
After a rough start, things are finally settling down. First, two-weeks were filled with inaccurate information. Once taken to management clarification was found on most items. Housekeeping eventually knocks my mother's door while she undressed from the waist down, she asked for him to give her a minute and was unheard. The male housekeeper was asked to leave after entering the room with his key and eventually did. Given that the start of this was not going well my mother was hoping to have dinner in her room but only receiving 50% of her meals. Once again after speaking to Food service manager corrections were made. Last but not least, we chose this place because we were advised it was pet-friendly and dogs could be walked in the courtyard. The dog was not with Mom for move in, when she tried to have the dog come home to her she was told they are not allowed.

May 30, 2017Thank you for sharing your concerns. I understand how stressful this kind of transition can be for the whole family, and I am sorry to hear that you feel it did not go smoothly. I would love to talk with you directly to understand your concerns more completely. I can clarify any communication issues and would also like to take this opportunity to learn from your experience. Please call me at [removed] at your earliest convenience. I’d be happy to talk to you after hours if that works best for you. Thank you very much. Albert Munanga, Executive Director of University House Issaquah.
The University House Issaquah was really nice and we liked it except for the location. It was on a hill and my husband and I were still driving. That was a minus. Also, the food was not as good as other community that we toured.

This was a larger community and my mother in law felt it would not work for her. It was clean and the people were nice. I would say this would be a community to look at.

I researched and visited numerous properties in the greater Seattle area before deciding on University House in Issaquah for my mother, whom I recently transplanted from her home in Tucson. I’d like to thank Liz and Albert for their assistance and patience. The process of moving her took a little over one year to accomplish. At 92, my mother was understandably scared, apprehensive, and not completely convinced that we had made the right decision. The transition, however, went very smoothly, and she immediately fell in love with her new apartment and the beautiful garden views she overlooked from her living room and bedroom. Newcomers are assigned a personal “ambassador” who introduces them to other residents, shows them around, and explains all the amenities, of which there are many. It is a lovely program that helps individuals quickly get acclimated to their new environment. Residents get to experience a true sense of camaraderie/community because of a myriad of daily enriching activities that are provided, where all can flourish. They also often congregate for dinner in the lovely dining room, where the service is friendly, and the food delicious. The staff is caring and helpful, and always available to provide assistance if needed. I especially want to recognize the maintenance group, and to say thank you for all they do. We couldn’t be happier with the choice we made.
