Within six months of moving in, my mother's rent went up 12%. Corporate executives stated as part of rent increase independent residents would now get a 30 meal a month plan. Many residents did not want or need since they have a full size kitchen in their apartments. The residents wrote letters, signed petition, talked to executives but were not heard. Just corporate greed. Staff at facility were always kind and have no issues with them at all, they are not to blame. My mother is moving out.

I would say do not go for Independent living. I have no experience with Assisted Living. No benefits in Independent living. Food is not included , outings not included and no medical benefits as well as no other benefits. It is Corporate owned and it is all about the money.

The Oaks is truly an exceptional senior community! The programs here are nothing short of amazing. The Activity Director does an excellent job creating engaging and fun activities. The staff is incredible; always kind, attentive, and compassionate. The Executive Director has gone above and beyond to ensure that my parent feels comfortable and cared for. The Business Office Manager is always so helpful with billing questions, making everything easy to understand, and the Maintenance Manager is a godsend, taking care of everything promptly and efficiently. The building itself is beautiful, with wonderful amenities, and it's located so close to the high school and library, which is a bonus. The residents have been incredibly welcoming, and my parent has already made so many new friends. One thing I’d love to see improved is having dedicated hours for the pub. When looking for a senior community, it’s easy to focus on price, but the staff and atmosphere at The Oaks make it priceless.

We leased with The Oaks starting in September 2023 and have already received 2 rental increases. The most recent is a change where they are mandating the selection of a meal plan at a minimum of $[removed] per month. This is a 10% increase in the cost for a service that we did not want. Their food is poor, service is limited. They often promise the adding of services but never deliver and the shuttle services are only available on a limited basis.

The overall experience has been positive, but it takes a while to become comfortable with mates. The community is very clean and the staff are very helpful and friendly. I'm independent, but they get a 5.The staff are helpful with answering questions and getting help when sought. I usually eat dinner only... so personal so my likes are the only response 4 Dinners... they try. The activities are a 5 plus. Very good and fluid and responsive to patrons and I think the value for cost is fair.

June 14, 2024Hi Customer, Thank you for taking the time out of your day to review The Oaks at Algonquin Senior Living. We are thrilled to hear about your positive experience with our staff. We hope you have a great day!
We moved my Dad to the Oaks earlier this year when his needs become too much for another facility. The staff is compassionate and communicative as my Dad and my family deals with his new reality. The place is spotless and the staff is professional. I would recommend everyone do thier due diligence when finding a place for your loved one. We did and our happy with our choice.

May 7, 2024Hi Jeff, we are happy to hear about your good experience. We appreciate the positive feedback. We hope you have a great day!
We chose The Oaks because of the new construction and the cleanliness of the facility. Staff are wonderful. But mom keeps hoping they will offer an older musical or movie in the theater. Everything is too current for her liking.

April 9, 2024Hello customer, We appreciate your positive feedback about your experience at The Oaks at Algonquin Senior Living. We take pride in serving our residents and their families, and if you have any further questions, please let us know.
They are short staffed. Wait time after pushing button is 30 to 60 minutes. You could be dead by then. I took my mother to my home after 2 weeks. It's beautiful but that's where it ends. To be fair, I think they are all the same. Better option for us was hiring home instead to come to my home.

. The experience at The Oaks was "A+" all the way around, could not have chosen a nicer facility. Unfortunately, my father passed away last September. We did his hospice there as well. Cannot thank the staff enough for their care in his final days. Everyone that we encountered was so nice and great to my father. He was very well taken care of.

February 28, 2024Hi Gregg, we appreciate your kind words and the time you took out of your day to review us. We hope you have an amazing day!
The restaurant that is on site was fabulous about special requests. For example, they offered to cut my mom's food into smaller pieces ahead of it being served at the table with our family's meals. The staff was always kind with our family and most importantly, my mom. They were a bit short staffed sometimes.

February 2, 2024Hi Diane, Thank you for taking the time out of your day to review The Oaks at Algonquin Senior Living. We are thrilled to hear about your positive experience with our staff. We hope you have a great day!
I would recommend. Right after moving in - I had issues with staff behavior - it was addressed no other issues since. My mother is in memory care - the unit is locked. Sometimes there is a wait to get in and out of the unit. Cleanliness - the common areas are clean. Her room is cleaned a couple times a week. I often find stool on her toilet, stool on her chair, urine around the toilet. Her room smells and garbage bags are not consistently in the cans. I usually spend the first part of my weekly visit wiping down her room with Bleach wipes, cleaning the bathroom and reorganizing her closet. She is clean and well taken care of. I wish they would wipe things down when visibly dirty - this would help with the odor and overall cleanliness of her personal space.

My loved one is currently a resident at The Oaks at Algonquin and her experience with everything at this facility has been great, so far. The facility is practically brand new. The staff is very helpful. The food is really good. The Oaks at Algonquin is definitely the most reasonably priced Independent Living facility in the area. I checked out five other facilities in our area during my search. The cleanliness and friendliness are great. I would recommend this facility to others.

August 18, 2023Hi Judy, we are happy to hear about your good experience. We appreciate the positive feedback. We hope you have a great day!
While the staff is compassionate and friendly, the facility is understaffed, like many facilities. What is especially unfortunate is that they are inflexible with adjusting the amount they choose to bill in the 30 day period after my family member left the facility. His care level was at their highest charge as was his medication administration. Yet, now that he's not there, they continue in the last 30 days to bill the full amount rather than reduce it to a lower care level. He's not even there but they refuse to adjust the bill. Their reasoning is that they plan 30 days in advance the staff they will need based on the care expectations. While this makes sense, they are understaffed and would likely not be sending anyone home anyway. It took me having to call corporate before I was given this explanation. Up until that call I was told, "Sorry, it's the policy". I don't hold this against the care staff as they were great.

Keep your loved one home and hire someone to come to your home. After two weeks, I took my mother out of The Oaks and into my home. They, like all assisted living places, are very understaffed.

May 8, 2023Dear anonymous, we are appreciative of all feedback and evaluate to ensure we are constantly improving. When and where we find opportunities to make appropriate adjustments, we do so. We are very familiar with the specifics related to the situation you reference. As we previously explained, the expectation that community personnel handle the unpacking process at move-in was not appropriate - that responsibility does belong to the family. As a result, you elected to make the decision to simply move out - an unfortunate choice. However, that choice should not be used to negatively impact the incredible work done by our community's team members or our reputation. We do hope your loved one is doing well, and we wish you both the best.
Staff is amazing and so very patience with Mom and any elderly person living there. I was attracted to the facility as it was very modern, new, clean, presented itself extremely well, and the prices were the most reasonable out there too.

March 26, 2023Hi Customer, that’s wonderful to hear. Thanks so much for leaving us a review. Have a wonderful day!
The Oaks at Algonquin was a little too modern and cold feeling, if that makes sense? I felt like someone my age could be very comfortable there, but it was not as homey as [facility name removed]. It was really just a matter of finding the place that seemed right for my dad's age and personality.
