About the facility The Manor House

In the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Branchlands Manor House offers residents independent living in a welcoming town. Charlottesville, Virginia, is well known as the home of the prestigious University of Virginia, and a focus on excellence is in the air. Charlottesville applies its hard-working mentality to the public parks, which are clean and green. There are four beautiful parks all within a 10-minute drive from the facilities. Outdoor activities abound as the town is just a 30-minute drive to Shenandoah National Park, where you can watch the sun filter through the forested mountains from an overlook, or hike to one of the many waterfalls. The city's thriving arts scene means residents can attend performances, galleries, or craft fairs year-round.

Branchlands Manor House offers residents a unique opportunity to live independently in a hassle-free environment. Set within a colonial mansion on a landscaped campus, the facility is full of well-appointed common areas, big windows, and furnished apartments. Walk along the azalea blooms in the garden on one of the lovely walking trails that run around the campus, or sit in the stately library to catch up on a good book. And bring your furry friend with you, as this is...

Stay Away

I would recommend you not come to The Manor House. Management is non existent or in other words acceptable, and respectable management is missing. The Director is rude and has little opinion of the residents. They are short staffed throughout the community. The food is inferior. You are given a week's menu to choose from a week before all five meals are served, and there are two choices for every meal, or sandwiches you can have.. The food is poorly prepared, and there are times the residents question what we are eating. One of the activities is to watch an exercise DVD and participate in the exercise shown. After 10:30 am and Before 2:30 pm there is transportation to doctor appointments or to go to the grocery store. The quality is far less than what we is expected for the price. There are residents leaving for another community within the next 6 months. I have chosen to not renew my contract and leave the community for a different community in the area as well.

Ask to speak to current resident

The staff is very helpful and pleasant. It is a revolving door here for the kitchen staff, they come and go a lot. I think that the tour makes it sound much better than it actually is. The main disappointment is the food, the chef is not a chef, he is just a kitchen worker. When you voice your concerns to the director, he does not do anything about it. It is very hard to get around, the doors are extremely heavy. The building is very old and the layout makes it difficult as well. Overall due to my experience I would not recommend this facility to others.

Wonderful

I think that the facility itself and the rooms are great. They're big and roomy and well appointed. The staff has been responsive. And they've been very accommodating with our family, doing everything they can to make it a viable option for us. That has made all the difference for my mom, who is used to living alone and is unsure if she could adjust to this type of living. So If she does decide to move, this would be a great option for her.
