Response from The Kentridge Senior Living
June 22, 2024Thank you for sharing! Would you mind reaching out so we can learn more about your culinary experience? You can call the Executive Assistant to the CEO at 1-800-983-8876 x8960 so we can address any and all concerns.
My biggest concern is, with my mom's colostomy bag, they only have 1 housekeeper who cleans all the rooms. She only cleans my mom's place every 2 weeks. For [removed] a month, I would expect weekly like it says they do, in the handbook. My daughter is helping to clean, change her colostomy bag, etc. When my mom first moved in there-a year ago, they said they would help with the colostomy bag, 3 months later, they said they wouldn't, so I had to figure it out.

While my mother was moved to Kentridge Senior Living, there was a stomach virus developing in the facility. My mother was kept in her room 24/7 with only the nurse passing meds and meals brought to her. She was too weak to feed herself and could not go to the bathroom by herself. She would call me at my home and I'd have to call Kentridge to get help to her. They were understaffed and couldn't go in and visit her for a few minutes. I feel that if they had more staff they could have taken better care of her (her call button didn't work while she was there). I would only recommend this facility if they had more staff. The dining room and menus looked great and so did the games/activities. Bad thing is, my mother didn't get to use anything.

This was a problem for me it was like they don't want you knowing there care fee's. I had t write corporate to get permission to see them. If something changes there quick to add the fees and slow to take them off. That was my main problem. Good Staff and good food. We cannot comment on the value for cost, and when it comes to the activities our loved one does not participate in them.

I would tell others looking that if their loved one gets to the point where they need 2 aides at a time for dressing, bathing, or changing diapers, the cost can increase substantially. The chef is available for "catering". We celebrated my mom's birthday right at the facility, which made things a lot easier on us. I would most definitely recommend The Kentridge Senior Living.

It's a nice facility, still trying to work out some issues. We picked this community, because of the location, it's a nice place, and at the time, the personal care. I would recommend it, as long as they would put in writing, what personal care they will do.

The staff was wonderful. My loved one loved the food, which was good. They don't have too many activities, available for the residents. They had a room availble when we needed it. It was clean, nice, and the staff was great.

The call buttons weren't working for my loved one. So my loved one would call me to call the community to get something accomplished such as bathing, dressing, etc. The building looks nice and the friendliness of the staff during the tour was excellent. Once my loved one moved into the community the staffing was limited and the residents were on quarantine due an illness in the community. There were no activities, socializations, or meals in the dining room. The quarantine lasted for two weeks. I feel the residents should have been checked on more often during quarantine instead of just meal and med times. This is what upset me the most. I feel that my loved one was checked on more during rehab at another community, than here at The Kentridge. The adult briefs that the family ordered for our loved one was moved to the storage locker of the community. These were never utilized by the community by my loved one, and we ended up getting these after my loved one passed. There was another family member that sent a card and the community never turned it back over to the family. The tour was wonderful and what we got was subpar.

Our family had an in person tour and it was fine, the impression we got is that it is an older styled facility. The staff were really nice and outgoing but we did not really seem much engagement with the residents.
The lady that we talked to was such a sweet person. The Kentridge seems like a wonderful facility from what we were able to see. They seem to specialize in earlier dementia residents rather than ones who are further along. The location was also a little too far for our family.
The facility was great and they had a good covid plan that still allowed visits to our loved one. The community is very neat and clean and the staff is very friendly. I would recommend this community to others based on my experience.

We toured during Covid, so it was an outside tour. We were able to look through the window but were not able to go inside. They were very cordial about coming outside, and they walked the grounds with us and sat with us. This was our #2 choice. We would have gone here if it didn't work out at our first choice. I liked the security of the place. The only thing they couldn’t resolve was they would have required my loved one to wear an ankle bracelet with his reputation for hanging around doors and wandering off the grounds. But the person we spoke to is still in contact with me. She calls to see how my loved one is doing. She’s great.
The Kent Ridge is extremely friendly. You will have to go with this community's pharmaceutical group. I wish we could've kept my mom's pharmacy without a financial cost. The activities were amazing and even assisted with advanced memory care residents, in getting them involved. The chef would come to me and see what my mom would eat, and brought it directly to my mom. If it wasn't the Chef, it was someone from the kitchen and do the running. The staff would try and help memory care residents in eating food, since it is sometimes hard for them to keep themselves eating. The staff was very cognitive in knowing which memory care residents to sit with each residents for meals. They explained the memory care and why your loved one would say things to you, and not to take it personal.

I would recommend them to a friend. The rooms could be a little bigger. The food is good. I wish they had more outdoor space for the residents to enjoy. I wish the doctors could come in more frequently. I wish they had a little store, a gift shop for the residents.

The waiting room area for the consultation was private and comfortable. Floor plan options are great. Staff was very interactive with residents. [Name removed] offered in depth information and asked many questions to ensure choices were outlined.

We brought mom here for re-hab until she could go home again after she got her strength back from Chemo treatments. We love the place with its newly remolded rooms and entire facility. The dining room is restaurant style and is open from 7:00[removed] which mom and us really like. The food is wonderful too. The staff make her and us feel very comfortable. They make sure mom was always introduced to ladies that she got to be friendly with. The staff is very attentive in getting her out of her room to eat her meals and participate in Kent Ridge activities. I would recommend Kent Ridge to anyone.

A Place for Mom has scored The Kentridge Senior Living 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
