My mother-in-law lived at The Carlotta in Palm Desert for a few years. In March of 2023, she moved from her casita (on site) to their assisted living facility where she passed away in August 2023. She loved living there! Unfortunately, as of today [date removed], we're still trying to get our large deposit back. We keep getting the run around and now nobody will return calls or emails. I had written a negative review before and another family contacted me because they too were having the same issue (their case is even older than ours!). It's terrible that a "nice" place like this doesn't want to give your money back. Based on this, I would NOT recommend this place. My mother-in-law would be so upset if she knew what her beloved Carlotta is doing to her family. P.S. The Carlotta had said they were using her casita as a model and that's why it wasn't sold. Why are we having to pay for them to use it as a model? Give us our money back and you can do whatever you'd like with it.

Response from The Carlotta
August 25, 2024Hello Linda, We understand this process has been frustrating and we are glad to share that the refund has been processed. When your mother-in-law moved into The Carlotta, the residence agreement she chose outlined the terms of the refund process. We followed the terms as required and are glad to process the refund now per that agreement. We were using the casita as a model to be able to show it to prospective residents and being set up as a model did not prevent us from selling it. We appreciate your feedback and patience and wish your family the best of luck.

Response from The Carlotta
June 18, 2024Hi Anonymous, thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review for us at The Carlotta. It was our pleasure to care for your loved one.
It was great at The Carlotta. The food was really good. The staff was very responsive. I loved the room. My mom had two bedrooms and a patio. We had hummingbirds coming to flowers on the porch. They had a nice putting green and a pool. Just a short walk to the dining room. I rave about it - I've even referred some people to be there.
After having surgery for a broken hip at Eisenhower Medical Center I spent five weeks in the Skilled Nursing Facility at the Fountains at the Carlotta. My experience was like staying at a five star resort! From the time I checked in until I was discharged I was treated like a VIP. Everyone on the staff was very gracious and professional. The nurses were very compassionate and the physical therapy and occupational therapy staff was exceptional. I found the CNAs to be very attentive and accommodating. They cheerfully fulfilled any and all requests. The facility was spotless. The cuisine was very nutritious, plentiful, and well prepared. The entire facility had a very positive and refreshing atmosphere. Nobody looks forward to staying in a skilled nursing facility after surgery, but I have to admit I found myself reluctant to leave. I am convinced there is no better place to recoup after surgery than the Fountains at the Carlotta!!

Things seem to be going well for my loved ones since the move to The Fountains. The problem they are facing right now is trying to get the transportation figured out. Other than that, the place is clean and the meals are good from what they have told me.

My father-in-law was moved from another assisted living facility to the Fountains for rehab. The family decided it would be best to move his belonging from the other facility to the Fountain assisted living when his rehab ended. After an evaluation by the Fountain staff it was recommended he would be better served moving to their high level nursing section instead. Dawn, the move coordinator at the Fountains, handled everything for our family as there are no other family members in the Palm Springs area. She handled the entire move from the other facility to the Fountains, arranged his apartment so he could move in seamlessly with decorations and pictures on the walls and etc. After the decision to move him to skilled nursing, Dawn handled the move of his apartment belongings again to a nearby storage facility. She also ensured he would have a shelving unit for family pictures in his skilled nursing room and hung paintings and larger pictures on the walls of his room. She was very communicative during this two week process and was excellent working with. We could not have done this without her valuable help.

Horrible Care Recently an elderly Family member of mine was moved to this facility with a broken leg. While at the facility he began suffering from Hallucinations and Confusion. He had a major bladder infection that was never treated correctly. The wound care he received from a bed sore that he got while he was there was treated poorly. His full leg cast was filthy and covered in feces and we are not even sure if they ever noticed. Finally my mother fought to get him sent to the hospital to get his mental state checked out and when the hospital was ready to send him back to the facility he was no longer welcomed back. The hospital gave plenty of warning they wanted to release him and they waited until late Friday afternoon to respond. Don't let someone you care about go into this horrible facility, look at getting care elsewhere.

A Place for Mom has scored The Carlotta 7.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
