My Mom moved into Symphony at Mentor in late August ‘24. From the start, every single person working there has been kind, caring and compassionate. The facility is welcoming and the rooms are spacious. You can decorate as your loved one pleases, bringing keepsakes from home to help them feel more secure. The nurses are excellent and the aides are so patient and understanding with the needs of each resident. Family is encouraged to be a partner in the care of their loved one, and work with the staff to make the transition to the facility as worry-free and easy as possible for their loved one. A move to Memory Care is so difficult for both the resident and the family, but the support my Mom has received has been tremendous. Support for family members is also a priority at Symphony, and has been of great help for me. I feel very fortunate that we found Symphony, with the help of A Place For Mom. My Mom is safe and well cared for. That’s my number one priority.... Read more

They don't do what they say they do change pads when dirty/wet. (i.e. change bedding when she has shower get shower when schedule). Bring to a attention health issues Don't use medication provided for issues.( Infected toe sores on buttocks) Don't engage/work with them as a advertised. Don't relay information about residents to next shift. Lost jewelry (never found) bedding, glasses, teeth ( they don't notice things) Meal are always the same thing too fancy, no ordinary home cooked meals. Menu need changed. (i.e. meatloaf alfredo, turn/egg salad sandwiches)

July 3, 2024Thank you for your kind five-star review of Symphony at Mentor! We're delighted to hear that our caring staff and family atmosphere have made you feel comfortable and safe. Warm regards, Alison.
I can’t say enough great things about Symphony at Mentor. My mom was in a nursing home setting and got asked to leave. She needed a memory care unit that was more secure for her safety because she tended to wander and they feared she could get out of the building easily. I contacted A Place for Mom and got an interview at SAM 2days later. I had looked it up online and was impressed. When I went to tour the facility it appeared exactly how it did online. I knew it was the place for MY MOM. I toured a few other places and none compared. She’s been there for about 2 months now and has transitioned well. I have no complaints.

My mom was a resident at Symphony at Mentor for nearly ten months. During that period, management changed twice. Nearly all of the staff changed. Communication was not good. I think mom was like many memory impaired seniors and either believed she had showered and refused when asked if she'd like to shower. The problem is, these folks figured that was okay and weeks and months passed between showers. Any time I complained, she would get a shower, but we were right back to long spells without them until I complained again. Housekeeping was unreliable. Once I noticed a stain on the bedsheet and two visits later it was still there. I changed the sheets and taped the date to a corner. Several weeks later, they hadn't been changed. I complained and it seemed to improve. The floors were never fully clean. The move in was difficult, with no pavement between the walk and the door. The thresholds of the doors to the courtyards are too high for a wheelchair to cross without a struggle. I imagine a person with a walker would need to be careful. The security procedure to enter and leave the unit discourage visiting. There is a doorbell that summons someone to come and punch the keypad to unlock the door. When you're lucky it happens quickly, but many times it can be a 4 or 5 minute wait before someone responds. There was next to no communication. The receptionists were the best sources of info and they were more proactive than management. The meals were average quality. The menus looked interesting. There were more pink and yellow beverages than I would expect. I would recommend people away from this facility. The price was the lowest I found, but I found that to be a false value.

Symphony at Mentor has been an amazing experience for our Mom who has been diagnosed with dementia. We were skeptical at first, but she has literally flourished since moving in. She feels as though all of the workers are friends and family and has received top notch care. Any questions we have are always answered promptly and courteously. We cannot recommend it enough!

My mom has been in Symphony for over 2 years. Although there has been a turnover in personnel, the good care remains constant. I visit at different times during the week, and mom is always safe, clean and cared for. She tells me how wonderful the staff is to her. She has several friends in the community and seems to be contented. Symphony has given me peace of mind, knowing that I don’t have to worry as much about my mother.

We thought it had a good reputation and we trusted the individuals we went on tour with, two of which are no longer there.Terrible place didn't take care of our sister. There was a lack of communication and not enough staff.

November 17, 2023Hello William, thank you for sharing your review. I have shared your review with leadership and would like to learn more about your experience. Please share your email address or phone number and leadership will contact you personally. Thank you, Alison
We picked Symphony because of its size and everyone we met here is so nice and caring. The rooms are clean and bright. The only issues we have is that there have been some changes here so there has been a shortage of staff, but they are doing a good job of fixing that. My Mom loves the food and the people who take care of her. I just wish there were more activities.

November 8, 2023Thank you so much Jodi, for taking the time to share your review of Symphony at Mentor. We're so glad your mom is enjoying the food and staff, and appreciate your feedback about the activities. Kind regards, Alison
The staff is great! They couldn’t be nicer. My mom says the food is very good and she absolutely loves the therapist, [names removed] the caregiver and [name removed]the activities director to name just a few. [name removed]at the front desk is awesome and very helpful. We understand that there are staffing issues in most places that take care of the elderly and that activities were greatly affected by Covid. We are patiently waiting for an increase in the varieties of activities. Overall we are pleased and chose this particular place because it was smaller and more homelike.

Place should be shut down! Took mom out of there in less than 3 weeks!!!! Absolutely did not meet expectation's. ! Not enough staff so they lock patients out of their rooms so they can locate them easier

My mother moved to symphony in [date removed]. Yes, there were staff issues but those were worked out. Even during the issues you could tell that mgmt was doing the best they could. In [date removed] 'corporate' fired most of the management staff. Most of which still haven't been replaced. Many other employees have also left-only two of the staff i know are staying. It is musical chairs with agency help. More often than not, residents are parked in the dining area sleeping in their wheelchairs. Now about cost changes. Our rate started out at $[removed] per month. Went to $[removed]. Ok. Has been $[removed] to $[removed] until this month. Received bill for over $[removed]. No advance notice, no communication-nothing. Tried talking to corporate-so far useless but will keep working on it. I understand mom needs more care-two people to help from sitting to standing and for bathing but other than that it is all a money grab. If it's up to you, go to a good nursing home for full care-symphony is not a good long-term option.

It has been an excellent experience so far and the community is kept very clean. The staff members are very professional and whenever we have questions or concerns they are very accommodating. We do like that we can pretty much come and go and do not have issues visiting or have to set up any appointments. We do see quite a few activities frequently going o which is nice.

February 1, 2023Thank you so much for taking time to share your experience of Symphony at Mentor. We value your opinion deeply and will share your positive review and accolades of the team members with our leadership team to ensure they are recognized and celebrated. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Warm regards, Alison
This is a nice community. The staff are friendly and helpful. The cost is a little pricey. There are a lot of items you have to provide such as medications, bed linens, and more and this can drive up the overall cost. This is a well maintained and clean community. The staff communication was okay with the family, and it could have been better by being more proactive and more often towards the family about our loved one. There are three meals a day served to the residents, and the residents did have some choices available to choose from.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
