All low scores derive from lack of leadership. My father spent 10 days in bed because managers wouldn't take the time to explain to my step-Mother why they needed a Hoyer lift, advertised activities didn't happen because there was no accountability that required on floor staff to lead them. When I shared my concerns with the former ED he said "well no one else is complaining". It was a memory care floor, if patients did remember to complain who would listen? As you can see I was not a happy customer.

Response from Sunrise of Arlington
January 30, 2024Hi, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with a review of your experience.
Since moving to Sunrise my aunt has flourished. She has gone from telling people that she had been kidnapped to enjoying her stay and to be able to socialize, her favorite thing to do. She has gone from a frightening 96lbs. Person to a healthy 107lbs. This has been a very positive experience for her and a wonderful fit. I can’t say enough positive things about the staff, friendly, supportive, empathetic and caring.

The ratio of men:women was higher than at other places we visited. Residents seemed very friendly. Environment was very pleasant, with a nice garden space out back. Security was good without being intrusive. Staff was really very helpful.I would highly recommend it.

Response from Sunrise of Arlington
October 20, 2023Hi, Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Arlington and the dedicated care givers and team members. Our residents are part of the Sunrise family and we take enormous pride in having the privilege to take care of them.
The location of Sunrise of Arlington is good, and the community was clean. Also we found the activities coordinator to be wonderful. However it just felt sad, with few staff who seemed to care for the residents. It was a blessing that [name removed] was unaware. We would recommend the downstairs part.

July 14, 2023Hi, We're sorry that you did not have a positive experience. Would you care to share more? Please email us at info@sunriseseniorliving.com so we can address your concerns.
Generally the experience we had with Sunrise of Arlington was OK. However, I am still being billed with no itemization or explanation after having been told that our balance was 0. I would tell others looking into Sunrise to make sure that your bills will be itemized when received. I would recommend only depending on what alternatives may be available. There were some staff that who were outstanding. I would like to give special thanks to [name removed], the concierge.

I wouldn't recommend the community to others. We were told that we would get services during the tour and this wasn't fulfilled. Once we arrived to move in our loved one there was no one to welcome us, or answer our questions. They stated they would provide the care, and my loved one wasn't able to move out of the bed for several days. I believe they are short staffed, as I saw three staff members when it takes 2 members to assist with some residents and lifting. The staff that were caring did a wonderful job. There was a constant issue that we had with my loved one not having the assistance in getting to the bathroom. There were times they wouldn't come get my loved one out of bed, and the Aides made this determination and not a nurse and this was concerning to the family as well. The meals were okay. The community wasn't able to follow dietary restrictions for our loved one. A resident was able to receive five glasses of orange juice and they were diabetic, this was extremely concerning.

The facility is pleasant and the location is outstanding, it is quite lovely. It seems to me they have a lot of good activities. We pay an extra amount of money per day to get extra services. I have to fight like hell to get those services and that really angers me.

The community was the same look as other communities we toured; however, Sunrise didn't provide a lot of follow up.

I would not recommend this facility based off my tour experience. The guy giving the tour was nice, but the activities director was extremely rude towards us and it overshadowed the experience and gave the whole place a bad vibe.

We toured this community and liked it a lot. The tour was good and they gave us lots of info. The community is a very nice facility and the staff was very nice
We have been pleased with our experience at Sunrise of Arlington so far. We chose this facility because it is a nice location, it has very large beautiful grounds, the common areas inside are large, and the friendly casual feel that we got when we got here. The residents were all very friendly and talkative when we toured. The activities director has gone above and beyond for the residents to try and keep them busy. I would recommend to others looking.

Very caring staff in the Arlington, MA facility. Facility's upkeep and maintenance is acceptable-not great-but the staff makes up for it. They showed concern for my aunt when she had her physical issues and compassion for her mental issues. Communication was prompt and timely.

I gave this facility a 5 star rating for its ability provide care from assisted living through end of life care with the appropriate resources, cleanliness, hotel like feel, and friendly staff. They also offer many activities for seniors, which is important to keep them busy and engaged.

Our visit to Sunrise of Arlington went very well. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Their programs seem to fit our criteria for our sister-in-law who will be going into the memory care unit. [Name removed] seemed to understand our situation and shared our concern. As Sunrise is our chosen community, our only hope is that our sister-in-law will enjoy her time there with many visits from family.

A pleasant place. The tour didn't start well as the person who was meant to meet us wasn't there. Seemed like the staff were involved and friendly. There were quite a few activities. Not much for non-Christians spiritually. The memory unit was our interest and the guests were together but not doing anything structured. Seemed liked the staff cared. Lovely deck area. Pricing at this place is by the day which makes little sense unless its just intended to confuse.

I'm a resident here, and the regular staff is usually friendly and consistently positive. But not all managers provide the same level of professional response. Some just leave me wondering how they got to their top position, not having the professional understandings, composure, and patience to fulfil expected fundamental job requirements. ... some easily lose patience with residents; as if they bring personal issues to work; ... some respond by talking harshly, as if that's the only way to get response from residents; ... there are some staff who turn the jukebox up high, while residents are trying to talk and understand each other in a common seating area; we simply are not as smart as we used to be, nor our hearing as strong. ... some Rx medication staff talk in frustration, rather than speaking with kindness to some residents who ask if they took their morning meds yet; this is a daily event, rather than having thoughts of a kind-response, and showing the resident where they signed the morning medication chart. ... some staff needs to learn how to Breathe in, breathe out; think and understand the assorted living situations. Show compassion, eliminate any competition in being better than us, in being smarter than us; in making us appear to be failures. Make better use of their healthy brains. We are the people who live here, who require special care. This ain't no hotel for independent yuppies, with BMWs, saunas, and daily wins in the Stock Market. Summary It becomes important to realize each Sunrise location is also under corporate management, who will get involved when local matters are unable to be properly resolved in a timely manner. The Sunrise of Arlington, MA is under the corporate management of the "Sunrise Corporate Office (McLean, VA)" see: [removed] This review will get updated, hoping for positive changes. $4k/mo rent. 2.5 stars is a fair rating [4/2018]. Misc positive notes: The 3rd floor is for people requiring memory care, and the services and staff are terrific. I visit people there, and am routinely impressed with the experience. Also, the location is excellent, with the public MBTA bus service located next door, and plenty of places close by to shop, and eat, etc.
