It's been a great experience. Would definitely recommend. It's definitely not fancy like some of the places but it was a great fit for my dad. They have great food! I think the pricing is also very reasonable.

I have lived at the Summerfield eststea for independent living for eiGHT YEARs. WHEN I MOVED IN IT WAS VERY NICE. However since then my rent has gone up several hundred dollars and service has diminished significantly. Flowers at entrance have disappeared, no place mats on tables. Cotton napkins are gone , food is fair to poor, staff is fair but service is very minimal and slow. I would have to give my opinion a 2 on a scale of 1/5. And transportation is very limited if at all and extremely unavailable .

What we like the most about the community is the environment- friendly staff and quick to respond to her needs about her apartment- my mother was assigned another resident to be her "guide" to help her transition to the facility

The move in process was smooth. The house keeping is good. The meals are good quality and varied. I would recommend this facility highly to others.

I would recommend you ask lots of questions, and for the staff to be honest. There was a lot of turnover of staff while here. The communication with the staff was not good, as there was a lot of friction between managers and assistance managers. This community is run by Seventh Day Adventist, and the food is based on their preferences and wishes. The activities were non existent as the community lost their bus driver.

This was a good community, it was too much each month for me.
I was foolish and did the "buy down" to try and save the family money in the long-run. My father died after 3 months, my mother could no longer live in the independent setting. even though they had said that there was a possibility of a refund depending on the circumstances, they refused to give us anything back at all. The $5000.00 we gave them was basically a big gift to them. They said they have "compassion for seniors." Where was that compassion to my mother when her husband died? Bad choice to spend some of their very little remaining funds to try and save money in the long run. It's a big gamble, learn from my mistake.

I liked this community a lot, it cost a lot more and did not have any studio openings when we reached out to them.
We toured this community, and the tour was very good. The staff was very friendly and shared a lot of great information. The tour was well done, and hey answered all our questions also.
I would tell others that it is not geared towards a man living here. Most of the activities are geared towards women. You will need to be outgoing as well for the activities. My loved hasn't complained about the food.

There is a lot of convenience to living here. You don't have to buy food - they provide you with plenty. It's comfortable - I've not been cold or hot anytime through all the seasons. The staff is great, from the kitchen on out. They're friendly, they're knowledgeable, they don't stand around and chit chat because they're busy. But you can get answers and attention to anything that you need. When you call for maintenance they're there the same day or the next mooring. They take care of everything in a friendly manner. They're a stickler for rules, which I appreciate, because they hold everyone accountable. There's no smoking in the building and you have to be 10 feet from door. I haven't been bothered by any cigarette smoke. They do allow pets, and I haven't been bothered by any of that either. I've heard it's difficult to find a place if you do want to bring a pet. The food is great. It could be served in a restaurant. They're offering a lot of activities - exercise, entertainment, everything, but I've not participated yet until I'm fully vaccinated. All of us have gotten at least the first round of the 2-part vaccinations, It's a little pricy at Summerfield, but I understand why. And it's still a great value compared to apartments in the area. The facility is really nice. We have a movie room with extremely comfortable recliners, we have a very well stocked library, and there's a computer available for residents. There's a beauty shop on site, and the beautician is good. She's cut my hair cut twice, and I've gotten a manicure. There's an exercise room, but it's been closed so far due to Covid. The front desk staff checks everybody's temperature when they first come into the building.

We chose Summerfield Retirement Estates because it was more affordable for what you get. The apartment sizes here are very good and spacious. I have eaten here and the food is excellent, they have a chef on site that prepares all of the meals, they are very fresh. The best part about the community so far has been all the friends my mom has made. I would highly recommend it to others.

We chose Summerfield Retirement Estates because of the proximity to my home, the price, and it was a better fit for my sister all around. It was also a brighter environment. The food here is good and it is healthy, they watch the sodium which is helpful for older residents. The studio that she is in here are a tad smaller than the facility she was at before, but she got a balcony, so it is very nice. The best part about this community has been that the other residents are very friendly.

Nope. Small, old and not what we were looking for. Not enough activities and it didn't have full kitchens.

The regular contact was out the week I toured, but the fellow who showed me around was personable and answered my questions. There are perhaps not as many activities on-site as other places, but it comes with a membership to Summerfield Clubhouse, where there is a golf course and an outdoor pool for the summer months. Some apartments have patios and balconies, and they have the larger alcove studio that I like. Three meals a day are served, and should a resident nap past a meal, the Concierge can arrange a sandwich or salad. If gourmet food is important, you should pass on this place. The food is simple and homey -- I was not impressed with the nutritional content of menu included in my packet-- too many sandwiches served with fries, pigs in a blanket, and starchy low-cost dishes. Lunch is the main meal here, which I think is a great idea. Pets are not only tolerated but welcomed enthusiastically here. Residents decorate the door to their apartment and I saw several decorations that indicated that a beloved pet also lived there. I was shown the theatre, which was empty, and a few activity rooms which were quiet. A class of some sort was being held adjacent to reception, and the people in it did not look particularly happy -- perhaps because they were so exposed by the lack of privacy and I was gawking at them. Summerfield is planning a renovation and they plan to make more "rest areas" and "activity rooms". There is much to like here. The prices are reasonable and almost everything is included. Certain things do happen at certain times, but there's an obvious effort to adapt the facility to the residents rather than the other way around. At the same time, Summerfield has more a feel of a hotel rather than a community, at least in reception. It may have just been my experience but the lady I gave a happy "Good morning" to when I entered did not respond, and none of the residents I smiled and made eye contact with returned my gaze. And yet the rooms and hallways are so happily decorated! I'm not sure what to make of that. I left at lunch time and the residents I saw in the dining room were sitting quietly and not talking as one might have expected. Again, the "open floor plan" of reception leaves the residents "exposed" to tourists, as if they are at the mall, rather than in their home. As I said, almost everything is included here. WiFi is available in common areas only, and there is a computer area. But if you want Internet in your apartment, you'll have to order that yourself. The rooms are already wired for it. As for location, it's a lovely neighborhood, set back a block or so from Pacific Highway, which can get busy. Like the other places I've toured, there's ample parking for residents, but at an additional cost. The reasons I'm giving Summerfield four instead of five stars is the "exposure" of the common areas, which they are in the processing of renovating, and lacklustre cheaped-out menu plan for the two weeks that were included in my packet. If they hired a professional chef with some nice specialties, even for just the main meal of the day, and backed off on the fries, I'd give it 5 stars.

I am really enjoying my time here at Summerfield. I feel like there are lots of activities here, and the people are friendly. I'm getting involved in the exercise classes, and bingo games, and they also have live entertainment here among other things. The meals here are alright, and I like that they don't have very strict timeframes for mealtimes. I love that my family is close by, so we can visit often. My apartment is also beautiful. I'm on the second floor, and I have a patio that I like to go out on to watch the birds. I love the nice, homey feeling of this community, and I would definitely recommend it to others.

I thought this facility was above average. The rent includes things like the heating and cooling, housekeeping, 3 meals a day, Wi-Fi, and laundry services. The facility is in a great location with a great view that lets in a lot of sunshine. It’s very open and spacious with great walking areas. Unfortunately, for the price you pay, the apartments are a lot smaller than other places and the kitchens are not big at all. I would recommend this facility.

Summerfield Retirement Estates was a very nice community. It was nicely landscaped and looked well-maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. We chose another community that was closer to our doctors.
