We chose to hire the additional care that was offered. We hoped to prevent our mother from falling since she had a call light. The staff would cancel her call light. She was blind and still had to go to the bathroom on her own. She ended up breaking her hip. We were not notified until two days later because they kept leaving voicemails on her cell phone that was at her bedside. She also got foot fungus because her toilet kept overflowing and the bathroom floor was always wet. As she was blind she had difficulty eating; we frequently found food remnants on the floor and table that had not been cleaned. Staff seemed overworked but were always courteous and willing to listen. The policy forbidding cameras in the room directly led to this score. During a settling in period we were permitted to have cameras so we could remotely help my mom, who was blind, orient to her new surroundings. Techs complained about the presence of cameras; two days after we complied with the policy and removed the cameras she broke her hip trying to get to the bathroom on her own. Her call light requesting assistance had been cancelled. Often forgot to deliver her meals to her. Forgot she was blind and did not tell her when meals had been delivered. Because of our negative experiences there is no cost which would have been acceptable. Certainly not what we paid. We opted to remove her from the situation and we provided care for her in her own home.

I would certainly (and have already) recommend SJV. I've had a great experience with the community. The interactions with staff are always pleasant and helpful. The common spaces are nice and always sparkling clean. My Mom's room is spacious and recently refurbished.

We were very satisfied with our experience. During her stay she was never well enough to participate in activities. The caregivers were always very considerate. There was significant turnover. It wasn't perfect, but I don't think it ever can be. We were happy with the experience.

My family and loved one had a wonderful experience with St Joseph Village. The staff are kind, caring, and helpful. The residents are friendly along with the staff. My loved one and family have felt very welcomed by the community. There are meals and activities to engage the residents and keep them social. We would recommend the community to others for their loved ones.

We feel Mom is safe. Staff response is ok, not always fast enough for Mom. Meals are good, her involvement in activities has been minimal at this point.

The facility is very clean and staff are very friendly. My loved one was scolded for pushing the call light button when she felt she was going to fall. Independent living is only for those that need no help except in case of true emergency (heart attack). If you need help, you hire it at a significant price. Staff are not equipped/willing to handle falls. They did not call family when she did fall, even when she fell repeatedly. Her falls were an emergency due to a shunt failure. She should have been in the ER 3 days sooner. The care we received from the hired home health was great except the few times their staff failed to show. When resident called to notify of a no show, supervisors DID arrive to cover care. Independent living is truly for those that are independent. The food was very good. My loved one was happy with the activities, all were in house - no outings. Independent living is [removed]/month or more. Any personal care is extra thru contracted company and is $[removed]/hr. For [removed] you have 2 meals, housing, and care of apartment, social options. You do your own laundry, independent of all care. She could have hired that care in her own condo. So for her it was not worth the cost. If person is independent in mobility and has no memory issues and wants a community, it is a good, clean, caring place.

They allow family to support and visit their loved one just like visiting them at home an opportunity would be to hire more trained medical staff for the assisted-living side to ensure appropriate execution of doctors directives are followed. St Joseph is trying to address the medical staffing opportunity. They have recently hired another nurse supervisor and have the second supervisor two days a week in the evenings available for the residence.

The Executive Director was caring, and tried to be of help. The director of nursing, was rude, and not responsive to families. The care was terrible. There was no activiites and the place smelled. They did not do things, that we asked them to do. It was a terrible environement on every sinlge level. They did not do anything to help my loved one adjust. It was a total nightmare.

The food is really good. The nurse manager Tabitha works well with family concerns. We really have to keep talking to the staff to address her care issues. I like that there's a hair salon on site, and she contacts you right away if you leave a message. They've gotten better with cleaning her room. The staff seem sweet to her. I would recommend this place.

It smelled like a nursing home. I was not impressed and it was not a good experience. I would not put my loved one there.
St. Joseph Village has been great; the whole staff has been really great!

It is very cost-effective compared to other places in the area. It is a smaller community so not overwhelming. The staff has been very helpful and attentive. It is clean. The food is ok. The layout is excellent. The room size is great. My dad has a one-bedroom, one-bath unit that is perfect for him.

Loved this place for mom. When she quickly declined, they were clueless. Egocentric admiratitor was the worst. Made a very difficult time much worse, unnecessary. Ran into MANY families with same experiences.

St. Joe's Village provides a safe secure environment for my 86 year old mother. Her apartment is spacious. The building is clean and doesn't have that "nursing home" smell nor does it have the "air freshener" smell to cover it up. So far, staff are friendly and kind. Activities are ok. The only criticism my mom has is about the food. She thinks it's bland.

A Place for Mom has scored St Joseph Village 8.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
