After respectfully sharing some concerns about the care my loved one was receiving, I was targeted and harassed until we moved out the end of June. Mother, [name removed] & daughter, [name removed] are rude, unprofessional and dishonest. I was called in the night, denied access to the building, lied to and about, and when I said we were on a waiting list somewhere else, was told to get out sooner. Staff is not adequately trained, and the memory care residents do not get the care or life enrichment that is promised. Emails are sent pressuring residents to give money so they can pay Xmas bonuses to their staff, even suggesting they set up a monthly payment plan. Don’t be fooled by “family owned” and the new facility. There’s a reason 3 families moved their loved ones out within 6 weeks (June-July). Our experience is well documented and is being investigated! There’s good help out there, Please take your loved one somewhere else.

Residents like the food. A good variety of meals. A large variety of activities for residents. This building, unfortunately, is not not entirely barrier-free (compared to more recently built / newer Assisted Living buildings) and that poses challenges for those needing wheel chairs. The grounds surrounding the building are not always well-maintained - each resident should do the gardening outside of their room door themselves. Hard when in a wheel chair. Furthermore, the aesthetic appeal diminishes as windows of the building are too infrequently cleaned. The administrative side is difficult.

We toured Hillside Terrace and it is a big beautiful facility. My mom was looking for something smaller and I did not see many residents out of their rooms doing activities during our tour.

Hillside is a wonderful Senior Living on the westside of Ann Arbor. It has been a staple in the community for more than 50 years! Now that says resilience and dedication to seniors and the community! It has been a family owned and ran senior living for the past 20 years and the owners are present on site. This place is not 1 of the big box corporate ran Senior Livings which makes their care and services delivered that more accountable to their staff, management and ultimately their family owners! Not too often can you find a family owned and operated Senior Living "Mom and Pop" home so if you can get on their move-in list, I promise you you will be grateful!

What a wonderful community. The staff and residents are so warm and friendly. They make difficult conversations easy and you can feel the genuine affection they have for wanting to care for your loved one. I got to sit in on a bingo game with the residents and could not stop giggling. The young lady calling the numbers made it engaging and the residents played right along. Everyone one was having a good time. They even have beautiful birds on display and residents have pets to warm your heart. It gives me comfort knowing this is a safe, happy and engaging community

Not happy, thus the overall 1-star review. In my opinion, management is very rude. It took several phone calls leaving messages for a director (family member, since it's a family business) asking for an explanation of charges - this was NOT a complaint; it was a REQUEST for the INFORMATION). However, to repeatedly dodge calls and simply not provide the information, then need your boss (your mother) on the call when you finally return a call weeks later is very unprofessional. Bigger issue - I received messages from more than one staff member from hospice (outside, independent agency coming in to assist with our relative's care) regarding issues with her care as far as keeping areas clean and dry. A new Hillside staff member was somehow allowed to place shoes on her - in spite of the fact that she had a severe ulcer on the bottom of her foot, and is in a WHEELCHAIR; she does not WALK! If your loved one has any severe illness that may progress later, such as dimentia, Parkinsons, Diabetes - consider whether he/she may be better off in a nursing home in the long run. Hillside is NOT a nursing home. While they do offer many activities, at this point our relative is able to participate in very few of them. Two dogs were presented during our tour. The larger one is no longer on the premises, and the smaller one, from what we can tell on visits, is NOT taken room to room by any means; [Removed] is simply [Removed] going to work with her owner (a nurse) and comes and goes as she pleases.

We toured this location when we were looking into options for my loved one. It seemed very dark, and was depressing. It was a maze of hallways on the upper floor of a building, so there would be no easy access to outside areas. I did not think it would a good match for my loved one.
