The staff at Pearls of Life are kind, patient and generally seem to take good care of my mom. My only concern is the medical care my mom has received. They discourage maintaining relationships with my mother’s primary care doctor in favor of a physician paid by Runk and Pratt. Despite numerous reports by me of significant ankle and calf swelling, it took nearly 2 weeks for the facility physician to visit my mom. Medical care seems ok once provided. I do intend to maintain PCP relationship as much as possible. The facility is clean, my mom says the meals are good, and they encourage residents to participate in activities.... Read more

I feel like mom has had a good experience so far; at time, it has been a bit difficult to see that not a lot of staff is around the stations to monitor what is going on with the residents. That to me, is concerning especially with the elderly, but I also understand that it is not a “nursing care facility.” Knowing my mom is happy makes me happy.

Intake, getting settled was excellent. Things had to happen quickly and they did. [name removed] was always available for concerns and questions, and quick to get things done. My husband stayed for only a week. He had suffered from delusions after brain surgery, which is why he was placed there.I feel our only complaint was that residents came into his room often, used the bathroom and went through personal items. We asked for a door lock and it was done.

We transferred our mom to this facility [time frame removed] as restrictions from the pandemic were being lifted. From the beginning of our experience, we received stellar care. The Director of the facility actually picked my sister and mom up from the airport to assist with the transfer-way beyond the call of duty! He went out of his way to ensure that our mom assimilated to the facility by checking on her frequently and making her feel special. We are so very grateful for his care and assistance in helping our mom transition. As many facilities around the nation were adjusting to post-COVID norms, so has POL. I have seen that they've struggled with finding and maintaining staff, which has made it hard to provide continuous care. However, I have also seen their efforts to hire personnel who go above and beyond to support their residents with care, compassion and dignity. Working with people who have Dementia can be very difficult, but POL staff seem committed to kindness and appropriate care for their residents. The new Director who was recently hired seems to understand the challenges of Dementia and how to provide quality care. Having a background in Hospice as a RN, she has the qualifications and experience she needs to implement her vision of quality care for her residents. As siblings we are grateful that our mom is in this safe space where she receives the kind of care she deserves.

Activity Director and Assistant work overtime to make sure the Residents are always busy and having fun! They go on outings every week, have wonderful entertainment groups coming in, mind stimulation games, pet therapy and even golf cart rides! I am so glad I did my research and chose this community for my loved one!

My loved one had a particularly bad experience. I know not everybody here does. Because it's memory care, there are a lot of variables that are outside of everyone's control. But there are certain standards of care that should be met. Some staff members were very concerned about her well-being, and others were so unconcerned that they didn't report they had found her on the floor in the bathroom in the middle of the night (and she doesn't even walk). It wasn't reported to shift change or to our family. She didn't receive any sort of assessment after she was found, at least not anything that was reported. The fall was recorded in a book, but nobody knew anything about it. They finally did x-ray her hip about 12 hours later, and the femoral head was severed. I understand there are so many factors involved. It's memory care, and things happen. I just don't feel like their staff is well enough trained. And ultimately it's the patients who suffer the consequences. I think this is probably a better place for ambulatory people or those who aren't a fall risk.

From what our loved one has told us, she seems to be very happy with the meals they serve. We have spoken with the activities director, and they keep the folks busy all the time, either play bingo, or outside creating different things. The value is reasonable, and half the price of a nursing home. A great deal for the money. We are very pleased with Runk and Pratt they have taken great care of our loved one.

The community does a great job with communication, if I have a concern they deal with it quickly and let me know when it's fixed. They have been creative with the way we are to visit making rooms with plexiglass and having outside tent visits in the summer. I would recommend this community to others.
