Kudos to the folks at Poland Village Assisted living for hosting such a nice Thanksgiving gathering. The seasonal decorations looked so festive. Staff really went out of their way to provide family members with a chance to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast with their resident loved ones. I loved the pies. [name removed] has adjusted nicely. She gets good care. And activities The place is beautiful complete with hot cookies every day. Plus many well planned theme parties and events a couple times I’ve told stories w [name removed] and how she helped me hear things. She was always a good housekeeper and I had to let our husbands make kielbasa at our house because she would not permit that in her beautiful home !!!

My mother is SOOOOO happy here! Staff is friendly and genuinely interested in the well being of the residents. There are many activities to participate in as well.

Mom's room had a broken blind and broken light fixture. Refrigerator didn't keep items cold. Most of them were nice. Wouldn't follow regular diet as ordered by Dr. followed a diabetic diet and denied her of things she liked. So she started retaining fluid by giving her salty foods. The care services are terrible. They wouldn't give her a shower I had to shower her when I would go visit. Christmas I went to pick her up and she had no clean clothes to wear. Staff member let me look in laundry room and I found a whole bag of her clothes behind the garbage can. I took her in her dirty clothes to my house to shower and put on clean clothes. She was messy so she constantly had food all over her clothes. They didn't take her to change or even to go to the bathroom until she had an accident. Dining room was never clean. Tables still had food on them from previous meals. Piece of spaghetti was under mom's table in the dining room for over a week. Was still there when I moved her out. Meals were terrible most of the ladies at mom's table wouldn't eat. Mom ate very little there. She would clean her plate at my house. Food came out on paper plates with plastic utensils. Small plastic cups and wouldn't offer them more to drink. She enjoyed the activities the leaders were very nice. Value for cost was terrible. We paid [fee removed] a month for her to be treated this way. I moved her in [date removed] to [community name removed] where she was treated like a queen and enjoyed her last few months being well cared for.

My mom has been a resident of Poland Village for over a year now. In the past 6 months, it has become a daily source of complaint. First, I will talk about what is wonderful: *The Activities staff (enrichment) is outstanding they daily go above and beyond. Second to the Residents, the Activities staff is the crowning jewel of Poland Village. *Allowing the Residents to have a pet if they are well trained and behaved. *Nicely decorated and home-like feel. Nice size rooms available. RECENT CONCERNS: *Several times a week waiting 2-3 hrs or more for help in the morning. Not enough aides to help. *The food has gotten worse, and many residents are complaining about portion size and not enough protein/meat- too many sandwiches. *Not getting showers when promised, often the water is not hot. The cook has showered mom twice because she had gone over a week without one. *Med nurses told that have to give the Bed-time meds early so they can leave by 7:30pm. * Management is aware. No response.

What we like the most about the Wickshire Poland community is the overall friendly atmosphere of the community. We also appreciate and like the staff members willingness to work with us when needed.

It was one place that we hadn't checked out -- somehow it was not on our radar. It was your company that brought it to our attention. And at that time it was one of very, very few that had an opening. Wickshire is a physically attractive facility and very conveniently located. My mom's room was pleasant (especially compared to the brown walls and brown bedspread at [name removed]), clean and fairly large (the other bed was unoccupied) and there were a lot of activities she could have participated in. Above all, I thank you for guiding us to this facility because we were really at our wit's end when you came through.

Our family had an in person tour with Wickshire Poland and the tour guide was very nice but I couldn't speak to the activities or the meals or anything. We ended up picking [community name removed] because it was equidistant to my sister and me.
They were nice and some of the employees tried extra hard to get things done correctly. But my mother-in-law fell and broke her arm and waited for medical treatment for 2 days. There was no investigation into her injuries and no one could answer how it happened. She was not mobile and needed help to stand. Someone should have known what happened. We were in the process of moving her when she passed away. If a patient needs medical support or care look elsewhere. Some of the staff treated her like family and others were going through the motions. I can't help but paint a bad picture overall though

All in all, we are satisfied & grateful our friend, who has dementia, is being cared for. And, glad the facility is relatively close. They have done well with, their help in getting our friend settled, friendliness, care, encouragement, attention to residents, always seems there is enough staff to tend to residents, activities.Suggestion to improve- an attending nurse told us memory care residents are not receiving the same (desserts, snacks, entrees) as AL residents. Also, cost of MC is higher than AL.

The staff and community are very nice. Anytime the family has questions or concerns the staff are very prompt in responding to us. There are three meals a day served and there are choices to choose from. There is an opportunity for the staff to handle laundry for the resident. The community does have the ability to assist with medication management, dressing and bathing assistance, and hygiene care.

They're sometimes understaffed. Overall I feel like it was a great choice for Mom. They have great attitudes and really care for their patients. Call each patient by name and engage with them. They are also very friendly and welcoming to guest.

The staff is very friendly. My loved one is always warmly welcomed. She enjoys her respite stays when I must travel out of town. Cost is reasonable. We have used this facility now for three different 14 days respite stays.

This place was way too expensive for my loved one and I, it was a beautiful community but also a really big community.
This facility is good. Some staff are more helpful than others but overall they are good. They keep the main facility clean, but I think the resident's rooms could be cleaner. Communication with the family is pretty good. I will say, we've asked for an itemized bill several times and still haven't received it. Monthly rent seems to fluctuate and we'd like to see a breakdown and why. Overall, I would recommend them to friends and family.

I wouldn't recommend the community to others for their loved ones. My loved one fell in the community didn't send my loved one to the hospital in a timely manner and the community had poor communication with the family at all about this issue. The family had to push for our loved one to be admitted to the hospital due to the fall. It turns out that my loved one actual broke a limb. If your loved one doesn't have medical concerns this would be a good place for them. There are some very, very good staff members here in the community.

The community has activities for the residents and the team did a great job with the activities. My loved one was never able to move in and the room they gave us was not the one they promised us originally.

The environment is very friendly and laid back. They break everything down for you very easily and show you were your money is going. They explain everything to a T. They did a great job showing my mom around and introducing her to the staff and tenants, and just easing her mind in general. I've already recommended them to friends of mine. The care services have been above and beyond. The staff are all great. I could tell right away their job is more than just a paycheck to them. The facility is currently under renovations, but it looks great and is still very clean. The food is fantastic. The dining hall is amazing, and their chefs cook 3 great meals a day. They offer so many activities, including busing the residents on outings. They have two ladies in charge of coordinating all the activities. It is an expensive place, but they offer great quality. And I have peace of mind knowing my mom is in the best place she could possibly be.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
