Loving the staff. The Community Director occasionally sends me texts or pictures on what my mom is doing that day. Her thoughtfulness goes beyond words. Moving my mom into a facility was a difficult decision for me and my family and with [name removed] action, it shows that she cares.

Unfortunately, I know they just let some of their wonderful main staff go to save money and because of that a couple of the RN's and workers have left. I am shocked. There is a new company involved now so it's all about money so I'm not confident that the place will remain the same. I do know the remaining staff are not at all happy with what is happening there.

We toured Sun Oak Senior Living during our search for Assisted Living for our loved one. I would not want anyone to live there. The facility was dark and depressing. There were two residents to each room with no furniture except a bed and a shared television.
Response from Oakwood Meadows Assisted Living
July 28, 2023We are sorry your tour experience was not a positive one. On most occasions we receive positive feedback. Our shared rooms provide for each resident to have a television if they want, as well as their own furniture. Most of our residents really enjoy having a roommate, and we also have private rooms available.
It's a medium sized facility. They care very well for their residents. Every potential resident is a little different, so you have to come tour and make your own assessment. I would recommend it to other families based on the generality of having looked at many facilities. I find that it suits my mom and has been really good for her. They keep the facility very clean. Meals and dining service have been good. One area they're lacking in a little is activities. They haven't had an activities director on the memory care side for a while. But it appears they have activities on the assisted living side. As far as cost goes, I think comparatively to other places it is good.

My sister has been a resident of Sun Oak for over 3 years. We looked at many places before deciding on Sun Oak because our situation was unique. My mother was 100 and sister has down syndrome. Sun Oak was able to accomdoate both of them. Our mother eventually died, but Sun Oak continues to take amazing care of my sister. The staff is wonderful and very caring and the administrators watch over her too!

The girls and I are very pleased with the care my wife is getting. For the most part, the Care Givers are very patient and attentive to the residents in Memory Care. The Med Techs are very professional.

I toured this community back in April and it was very well kept along with amazing and helpful staff members! I was hoping to put my mother in this community but unfortunately she had a sudden death. This would have been the place I chose!

The third night he triggered the alarm on an outside door and got out. Staff was "busy" and when they went looking couldn't find him in the dark. The police got involved. His "alarm trigger bracelet" (for which I paid additional $200 per month) worked perfectly, but the staff didn't.. Then he got transferred to the Lock Down Memory Care unit, which was a nightmare. They demanded I get a prescription for Seroquil (a drug not approved by FDA for this purpose), or they were taking him to Sutter Roseville to have an emergency physician order the drug.!!!!! There is very little common space and with uncomfortable furniture, and the bedrooms are locked during the day. Luckily, I had a 30-day letter and we parted ways

Response from Oakwood Meadows Assisted Living
February 6, 2020ADG, thank you for taking the time to write a review for Sun Oak Senior Living, and we are sorry about the stress. Fortunately, we offer a multitude of comfortable living options designed for residents who may wander. Our loved ones depend on the loving care and support of our staff, and we couldn’t agree more that the first 30 days can be some of the most challenging moments of life. I sincerely hope you and your loved one are doing well. – Sincerely Kaye, Executive Director
We toured this community. We did not like that the community was dark and the residents were walking. The community was not clean and we were not happy with the environment of the community. The staff was pleasant to speak with. We feel that there are many changes that are needed here. Families might want to consider other options.

Response from Oakwood Meadows Assisted Living
August 1, 2017Carol, Thank you for the kind words! We are so thrilled to have a great team on board.
My father lived at Sun Oak for 3 years before passing away. The staff were some of the kindest and warm hearted people and have ever met. My dad enjoyed all of the activities, luncheons and events. They always go above and beyond to help however they can. Visiting my dad was always a pleasure. Thank you Sun Oak for all that you do to treasure each individual.

A Place for Mom has scored Oakwood Meadows Assisted Living 9.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
