Nice clean facility with at least a few really stellar employees that always go above and beyond

Dealing with dementia patients has gotta be the hardest job in the world. I think everyone that works there is great and kind and helpful. Big should out to [name removed], he really helped us out a lot when [name removed] moved into the rehab center (she broke her hip) and made it so we didn't have to pay an extra month's rent unnecessarily and [name removed] was also so wonderful and helpful always. The food was honestly trash but I know they have to please the palates of like 40 elderly people and that can not possibly be easy and they have to keep things bland on purpose. Idk if this goes into the rating or anything but [name removed] was always offered food and had plenty of food, she just didn't personally like it but she can be difficult to please, especially in this mental state. The patient to staff ratio is a little low in my opinion, [name removed] had a few falls when she was "unsupervised" but i know there can't be a person in every residents room all the time so it's a real catch 22. If you don't visit during normal business hours, there are very few staff members. Some of the activities are pretty good. They don't have a very large activities budget but I really appreciate a few of the things they had. The women love getting their nails done, that is probably my favorite of the activities to be around for. The flower arranging was one of [name removed] favorite things, it gave her purpose. They have high tea party once a month or so which I thought was great. More art classes would be nice. I can't imagine all the hidden costs in a center like this, and i know I don't see the full picture but it seems like with the amount we paid for a shared bedroom (around $3300) that more than $30 could be spared for any given activity scheduled (which is what I understand their activities budget to be like). There is one more person I wanted to make sure got some recognition but I cannot remember her name and I feel awful. I want to say it was [name removed]? That could be very wrong. She's in charge of the nail painting party, the high tea party and the crafts etc, she is a literal angel on earth. So kind and patient and a beautiful person inside and out. I wish I knew her name I feel like a turd for forgetting, I would call and ask but I know the office staff is gone for the weekend. Honestly, if I had another elderly relative that needed to be in a dementia care center, I would very much consider the oaks at mount pleasant an option. They do the best they can with what they have and they do it with smiles on their faces.... Read more

A small community that feels like extended family

Speak frequently with staff. They only want what's best. Really share about your loved one. Remember that they need the knowledge to be the best for your LO. And like any facility-visiting frequently lets them know you're on top of it all. You and the center are a team of caregivers. Your stress is released a good deal but you know them best. They have an amazing staff! I truly care about them all. This isn't a stretch. They also have GREAT monthly events.

Overall satisfied!

All facilities need to see family involvement. I would tell others to speak up kindly when you're concerned. Advocacy is important anywhere. I do think they could improve on the food. They could provide more choices for the residents, offer condiments for certain meals, and add in more fresh fruits. As staff gets to know your loved one (my husband), the care increases to your liking. It takes some time to know the little details Overall I would recommend Oaks at Mt. Pleasant to others looking for memory care for their loved ones.

Great Place to Be

They do alot with the activities. We picked this community, because of the location, and overall feeling of the first phone. It gives a warm-friendly feel. They could improve, and add more activities on the weekend. I would recommend to other famileis. We have been very pleased. The staff goes above and beyond, to make sure that the residents are happy and well cared for.

The Most Wonderful Place for My Mom

It was a good experience for us. I can't recommend the community enough. The care staff are so nice. They dance with the residents, make their beds each morning, and are caring. There are field trips for the residents to go on, out to lunch, Christmas lights, games, music, and more as some of the activities offered. There are three meals a day for the residents.

I would never recommend this community to ANYBODY with memory care issues, especially those who have Lewy Body Dementia. The facility is not equipped to handle that type of care and they almost killed my loved one. We had a TERRIBLE experience.

Minimally adequate

It's important to note that I believe my loved one had an unfavorable experience at Oaks at Mt. Pleasant; BUT I also believe that majority of that is to no fault of the community. We had a very unique experience regarding how we transferred into the community and memory care, the state of my loved ones well-being, and the short timeframe that she lived there. Going in, I thought memory care would be "people who don't remember much", and its not like that - it borders on lack of self awareness within the residents. I did find the staff very helpful, but there was an issue I had with the absence of activities. I'm unsure if they offered as many activities as they could've. I would advise others that if it's an issue of trying to save money, then it could be a place you might want to check out. If your looking for top notch mental stimulation for hours at a time, then I don't think this would be the right place for you. It was hard to gauge how my loved one was doing most times, but overall it turned out to be a better place than I anticipated.

Highly recommend

Oaks at My. Pleasant is a more advanced memory care facility. We have had no complaints. All of the staff have been extremely kind and helpful and always keep us up to date on things. [name removed] one of the girls who works, here has been great and she is just fantastic with the residents. For such a hard thing, they made it easier on us and I would definitely recommend them to others looking.

A good Move

I can only review the relationship my family member has with the staff at Sweetgrass Court. Because of Covid-19, we have not been allowed inside the building for health safety reasons so I cannot review or rate the facility. But I can testify to the fact that my family member finds the staff very kind and helpful. She had a period of adjustment when she moved in and the staff were very patient and understanding. They are helpful in setting up Zoom so we can see each other and also getting her on the phone when I call. She likes the food and when I ask her if she likes it there, she has always said yes.

I spoke with someone on the sales team and I expressed some concerns to them about the care of my husband. It didn't seem that the care givers were attending enough to his care, especially in regards to his hygiene. They also had issues with misplacing some of his clothes. I had expressed concern with the care giving staff about this and I didn't think they did enough to remedy the situation. Aside from that, the community was usually clean and there was never any odor. They had a lot of activities as well; ice cream socials, baking projects, outside professionals to come in, and events to involve the families with. They held several family involved themed events as well. The community was much too expensive for our budget.

Patricia, I am the Executive Director and would very much like to speak with you personally about your experiences at our community. Exceeding resident and family expectations is our goal every time, and since you feel we fell short of that goal in our care for your husband I hope you are willing to have a discussion with me. I also did want to thank you for your positive comments on our activities staff. We look forward to the day when we are able to get back to running a full set of activities for our residents. Please contact me at the community at your convenience so we can chat.

Observations of a daily visitor

I am giving a poor review because of the many observations I have made on my daily visits at different times of the day. These are not positive observations. Everytime I go in the residents are placed in the TV room and they watch TV and not necessarily programs that enhance there mental capacities.I call it TV sitting. What individual enrichment is it they are suppose to get? Sorry I dont see it. I have had too many conferences and the result is empty promises. The aids are fine as long as corporate is there and Tiffany does her programs/which are wonderful. When corporate leaves its a whole different story. The schedule that is posted is not followed. There is plenty of motivational ng material available including DVD, musicals that get their feet tapping. I guess its easier to turn on the TV without any reguard to appropriateness.I asked an aid to cut my husbands nails which were long and dirty. She hands my tiny ladies clippers. I did specifically ask her to cut his nails/guess I wasnt specific enough. At 7:00 residents faces still had there dinner on their face.My opinion is week-ends are just more TV Aids are not n activity room [removed]. I see isolation of non verbal residents lined up by dining room. No supervision or encouragement to join a group. You dont ask residents if they want to join an activity-you encourage them-take them to the room and make every effort to engage them.

Very nice memory care

They do a really exceptional job here, I'd give them top marks across the board. The facility itself is in very good condition, it is clean, well kept, and well decorated. The thing that impresses me most here is the individual attention they give to each of their residents. They're very personable, and obviously genuinely care about the people that they look after.

It was very disturbing.

It was overall clean, but there was a gentleman who was not well supervised, who was urinating in the corner, and it got progressively worse. They were very friendly. We had to remove my loved one for safety reasons. Despite having visited several times, we just didn't see what it really was. It was very disturbing. I don't feel like any of the clients were well supervised, all of the staff seemed to be preoccupied with housekeeping and medications, and the occasional activities, which when they did have them were really good. There was a really poor attentiveness to the residents. They were left to wander unsupervised for hours at the time. Safety was my biggest concern, when the staff was with the residents they were good. I don't think the activities were to the level of the functioning of the residents. I don't think there was enough individual attention. I chose it for the friendliness of the staff, I liked the resident to staff ratio, and we visited during activity times, and that seemed good. I didn't feel there was enough encouragement of the residents to go to bed. They didn't seem to be proactive with emergencies.

Immediately my first choice

The activities I think are going to be good. When my mom first entered the facility, she had hurt her back prior to going in so she hasn't really been able to get involved in the activities. Sweetgrass is really a good place, they're trying to get her more involved in things but with my mother its difficult. They're not giving up, they're going to keep working with her. My mom's not a real social person, she hasn't been her whole life and she's kind of a challenge for them but they keep working and trying but their staff is really super nice. They have a small bus and they take peopel out once or twice a week, they go out to lunch, they visit different places, they go somewhere at least once a week and they have people that come into the place and play music and entertain them.

Great Activites but there are some safety issues

This is my [removed] I think they have a very good activities program and they're very conscious of what stimulates an elderly person. One thing that concerned me more is safety issues. My mom fractured her him. I've seen several other people with that same situation. She went to the hospital and the first night she was back she fell again. I've had to hire somebody to be in her room at night. When she broke her hip she was in the dining room and she had parked her walker outside because there wasn't enough room. That's my only issue but it's significant. As far as the activites program, Sweetgrass is the best in the area. They have outings, song fests, picnics, cookouts. They really try to help the people feel a part of the community.
