The day to day staff at MorningStar of Hayward is great, the administrative staff is okay. They need to hire accountants that know accounting. As for the food, sometimes it is a 2 (cold food) and sometimes it is a 5 (outstanding steaks). The housekeeping is okay, they don't always clean well. Communication with the family is good. The move in process was okay. They need to clean up the basement and basement access. The 'extra help' charges are a disaster. Everything is points and levels. I have no idea what stuff costs. The first threshold is about $1,000 for just the simplest help.... Read more

My dear friend has really made a smooth transition into this community and the staff have been a huge help on making sure that her needs are being accommodated as promised. She has had no complaints about the meals and is slowly starting to get involved with the various activities they have available for the residents throughout the week. I would defiantly recommend them to anyone looking into retirement.

A family should certainly consider this community for their loved one if they are thinking in terms of the Bay Area choices. We had very few days to plan between my Mom's anticipated exit from skilled nursing and a needed move to assisted living. The staff at Casa Sandoval really helped make it happen on time and as smooth as possible. My Mom is happy there and getting her medications on time which is a huge relief. The activities and food portions are appropriate for the residents.

We moved my father-in-law into his apartment in assisted living, and his transition has been positive and very smooth. He was very anxious about the change, but the staff put him right at ease. He says he hasn't had a bad meal yet!

It was in the neighborhood of my loved one, so that made it easier for her. The marketing director was accessible and friendly and made the visits very helpful. The staff are just super positive with the residents and with each other. One of the strongest features about the place is that it is a mixed community of assisted and independent living and that made it so much easier for my loved one.

I like it there. This is a big change in my Mom's life. She fell and broke her hand in another state, so I had to move her to California. She is away from her friends. Other than her trying to adjust, everything is fine. The people there are amazing.

After my friend moved in to Casa Sandoval, they were very helpful in getting her new TV working and fixing her window which she could not open. She recently fell and they were right there to help her, so the response thus far has been very good. The food is OK.

This place is terrible, if a resident falls down, they have a policy that the staff will not pick them up. For 5 thousand a month i expect my loved ones the best service possible

Response from MorningStar of Hayward
November 7, 2019We appreciate your honest feedback. However, it is a brand new day at Casa Sandoval as this community is now under the stewardship and management of MorningStar Senior Living. Resident security is our utmost priority. When a fall happens, our trained staff evaluates the situation and calls for emergency services if warranted. When an injury is suspected, we do not move a resident to guard against aggravating the injury. Falls without apparent injury are assisted accordingly. Stop by today and see the many positive changes at Casa Sandoval
I like Casa Sandoval ok. The caregivers are very nice. Staff is friendly, and facility is pretty clean for the most part. My mom is on the second floor, and it could smell a little fresher in my option. Also the elevators could be a little cleaner and smell fresher as well. The food is really good though.

All in all we really liked Casa Sandoval, but felt it didn't fit well with our father's dementia problems.

I think it’s great. The prices went down. The rooms seem bigger. My dad seems happy. It’s very nice. The meals are excellent. There is enough parking, but visiting parking is a little rough. The laundry service has been fine, but there are washers and dryers if residents want to do their own too.

We really liked what we saw when we visited Casa. The residents looked like they were happy and engaged. Based on the staff we met and how they got involved in the activities and 'theme' for the year/month, made we feel working at Casa was more than a job to them. We got the sense they really enjoyed their work and cared. We appreciated the fact that the monthly fee appears to be increased only as needed, as opposed to automatic annual increases. We appreciated the 'rules' for daily living are stable and do not change, which can be a frustrating experience for residents, especially if rules are changed to benefit the owner not the resident.

This is a great place, we're very happy with it! They really do an excellent job keeping the facility clean, and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. The care has been showing improvement, and they appear to have plenty of activities going on.

I have nothing but good things to say about the place. When I go over, the employees are always courteous and astute about people coming in. The cleaning service comes in once a week, and the laundromat is on each level. Before they moved in, my mother and her companion weren't eating properly and the three meals a day was one of the things that I was glad about. The unit itself is nice, the only thing that they have complained about is a small shower. She is happy there. It is an upper level place with a livable rent. They have a library and quiet room. The other residents are very friendly. You can tell when people are in a good mental frame of mind because of their attire, and at Sandoval they are all wearing clothes that are nice and everything. They always have events plans. Ann is always gracious and diligent. They have all been very nice. Things are taken care of, and I am very happy with it.

We looked at a couple of places and we did not like that one either. If my mom needed a different kind of care eventually we would have to move her again to a different building. For assisted living they have two floors and once you go off that you have to go to a different floor. If I'd had to move her she would had to learn everything all over again. Where she's at now she doesn't' have that problem.

A Place for Mom has scored MorningStar of Hayward 8.7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
